I'm sorry, it was very early in the morning and I needed to sleep...I confused myself in a big way! Of course you were asking about a longer version of one of the intros, because I shortened most of these! The full, proper version of the first season's title sequence can be seen on "1993 TV Show Openings Part 2".
Thanks for editing these. It was interesting to see. From what I remember ABC wanted to renew it, but was planning on scheduling it on Sat nights, instead of TGIF . The producers/studio felt that the show would not get good enough ratings on Sat and it was then moved to NBC.
That makes alot of sense. From what I know, the show didn't do badly from March to May of 1993. ABC undoubtedly wanted to provide berth for Boy Meets World, but I feel that an all Miller/Boyett TGIF lineup could have finally have been achieved (as they had tried to do three years earlier, when they had Going Places on TGIF). There should be news articles floating around, explaining the circumstances surrounding Getting By's network switch.
I remember this show well, it first aired on friday night after step by step @8:30cst/9:30est. I thought it was a pretty good show. All the characters were likeable, all whith good lines. As the show went on, the funniest one was Merlin Santana's character Marcus. He had gotten quite popular with the audiance to eventually by there scream & cheers as he first entered the screen per episode. I thought the show would last, but ABC cancelled it @ not quite a full season, then NBC had it breifly.
I really don't know why ABC didn't keep it on. It premiered as a mid-season/post mid-season replacement, which had become rare for Miller/Boyett shows (Valerie and Perfect Strangers were the last to have such premieres, both in March 1986), since they normally had September premieres. Many other TGIF 9:30 shows notoriously floundered, and it wasn't until the fall of 1993 that the lineup had a solid 9:30 sitcom in Mr. Cooper. What ABC should have done was renew the show and emphasize Santana.
It wasn't. In 1992, Miller/Boyett wanted to give Telma Hopkins her own series, with Hopkins wanting to portray a new character, away from the Family Matters universe. At the same time, the two were developing an ABC project titled A New Day, in which a white family adopted a black son. Cindy Williams was slated to star in this. After Tom and Bob had trouble coming up with suitable premise for Hopkins' series, they decided to merge elements of both projects together, resulting in Getting By.
Right, cause I was ready to say, it seems as if for the first season, they ripped off the credits for Family Matters since they look so Family Matters-esque.
Does anyone have all of the episodes?

There was a longer version of the first season opening? Or, do you mean you'd like to see the cast of Getting By hosting TGIF?

@VaultMasterDBT I meant the first season opening. I can't seem to find it.

Was this a spinoff of Family Matters?

Yes, and the font was used on two other Lorimar series besides Family Matters and Getting By--Valerie (first season only) and Nearly Departed (1989).
