estos chicos de ahora no saben lo que dicen esta era una buena cantante de todos los tiempos no como muchos de ahora que se esgrimen detras de unas teclas para vociferar dolor ja . ja.
I love the wanderer album and single! at the time though, it must have been a very brave move made by donna, to leave casablanca records, to jeopardize a repeat performance of her huge success of '79 and to ditch the sex/ sleazy image of bad girls and disco itself! But.. i do prefer bad girls/ once upon a time albums more than the wanderer but its still amazing. Top songs are cold love, night life, grand illusion and looking up.
Donna Summer was the 1st artist to sign a 4 album record deal being paid 1.5 million for each album on Geffen Records back in 1980. This first album was the result of that. Back then that was real money up front without making the album yet.
Born in the Boston neighborhood of Dorchester or Dawchestuh as they say out there! Anytime I think back to the Disco days of the 70's, Donna Summer is one of the first singers I think of...
@THX1205 it figures a dumb canadian would be listening to music he's not suppose to shouldnt you be wearing a speedo like all you french faggots do i got a idea for you that only a stupid ass canadian would try go head butt a knife !!!
This great groundbreaking, new wave/rock infused song peaked at #3 on the Billboard Hot 100 charts back in 1980.
When this song was on the radio back then , i didn't know it was Donna and once i found out i rushed out to buy the album for $5.99. I wore this album out. This song started a whole new trend in the 80's sound. I hope she gets inducted into The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame this time. She deserves it.
Hi there. It was 56# on the AMERICAN TOP 100 YEAR-END COUNTDOWN OF 1981 hosted by none other than CASEY KASEM;and 55# was "I'M COMING OUT" -DIANA ROSS; "BOY FROM NEW YORK CITY"-MANHATTAN TRANSFER was 57#
@Johnnyc5150 check your ears. She clearly says Wanderer -- there are things singers do to keep their sound that you obviously don't understand. Go learn something, then come back and make these comments.
This may be the worst comment ever made, your cheesy 2 cent opinion, vocal lonliness, & language stupidity, saying (take) when you should have said (takes)....
this song is a classic. from what many fans say is her finest album ( my joint top with bad girls). the video is not bad at all especially for 1980 when mtv just started.

donna summer was the only artist to survive the disco backlash in 79; so what really damaged her career. 1) David Geffen told her to separate from Moroder in 1981 2) jusr as her career was begining to rise after the success of She Works Hard... she was accused of making insensitive remarks towars her fan base, just because she was a Born Again Christian. In reality, she was the greatest artist from the disco era and one of the best selling acts of all time who suffered from no fault of her own!
rollingstone for the most part was anti-disco, they would give anythng that was rock oriented a good review, in this case "the wanderer" was a "faux rock" album, "the wanderer" the single was a huge club hit, and was played on disco radio stations, it was really the only disco oriented cut on the album, this was a career mistake, she made no new fans, and she dissappointed many old ones. it was a sign of the times i guess, considering discos backlash
So do I. And, although I'm not religious, I find it has a very strong basic message. Donna was never happy with her "bad girl" image and "The Wanderer" is a bit like her response to it. It shows how much control she had over the album as a whole too. She has made a lot of quality music during her long career and it has stood the test of time, as quality always does.
so a month later, i'm replying ;). and, well, i think it works too. I wish i could put into words what i felt when i bought the album. i lived in canada, and drove an hour to buy it. there was some sort of aura or lasting impression it left on me... in particular the album cover, not to mention the songs. and i must bravely admit, i acquired a 15' tall x 10' wide poster of the album cover art. should have kept it. i wonder donna's thots, in retrospect, about the album. peace
@omanmc ...The Wanderer (LP) got a glowing review from Dave Marsh in the New Rolling Stone Record Guide: "On this album, Summer, Bellotte, and Moroder function as a sort of high-tech rock band. With the possible exception of Michael Jackson's Off the Wall, no-one has made a contemporary dance record with so much stylistic depth, grace and power."
I enjoyed this one. It's still dance music, but the style of dance changed. Missed her music. So glad she is releasing "Crayons" this month. Can't wait to hear how she does. What a voice!
No arguing there at all. BTW, you all know this was officially the last Giorgio Moroder/Donna Sumemr colaboration, even though the album "I'm A Rainbow" was shelved by Geffen in the works was the official last Donna/Giorgio colaboration ever.
It was 1980! Videos were not suppose to have amazing visuals or having a big budget. It was all about the artist and nothing else. Video was still regarded as an artform, you didn't get great visuals and amazing production until 1982. That was with Duran Duran that started the trend, you know.

It didn't keep her as popular as she was B4, but it did keep her around longer than all the other disco-artists who practically evaporated by the start of the 1980.
I hate when some people are like that. I usually shrug it off a bit...shame that Donna Summer is so strick in her Christian views that she leaves little room to breathe. Keep your religion to yourselves and don't pry on others to do as you as say. But Donna is a diva and divas demand attention most of the time. I guess that is the power of Donna Summer, I'm afraid. That is shocking that your dancer friend had to endure that for sometime.
I still think this is a good song. Donna got on a born again Christian trip in the early eighties which had alot to do with her rejection of her disco past. I know one of her dancers who toured with her and she was very strict.
It was a departure from her disco genre, but I believe there was also the huge departure between Giorgio and Donna, being this is his final collaboration album, outside her I'm A Rainbow, produced by Giorgio, but it was shelved by Geffen. Either there was some tensions between Giorgio Moroder and Donna Summer, I would never know what went on between them. I mean, Donna suddenly worked with Quincy Jones on her self-titled ablum.
"The Wanderer" album was like a rejection of some of her past albums, e.g. "Bad Girls", or maybe it was just a new departure. Either way, she was never as popular after she released "The Wanderer" album. I suppose everyone reaches a peak - of popularity, I mean - and hers was in 1979, during the "Bad Girls" era.
It's true, this was a huge departure from her disco genre, but also, remember, Giorgio Moroder was also experimenting with electro music around this time, ditching his disco persona. This is really his last collaboration with Donna, though the Rainbow album showcased Giorgio's talents at its best.
Well, yes, her showmanship really does lack in the department. But the voice does make up for the lack of showmanship. The only artists around this time that were were true showmans were Michael Jackson, James Brown, and most of the old school artists from the 70s-80s era.
Have been Donna Summer fan from the get go, but i have to admit when it comes to showmanship she kinda falls flat, but that voice??? OMG. The woman has range. Many have tried over the years to mimic and cover her and they dont succeed. Still a legend in the music industry after all this time.
You dont go to a Donna Summer concert (or Streisand for that matter) to see visuals, dancers and lots of backdrops - you go to hear and see the voice. And this is a magic song I had forgotten! Ty
She is the "Queen of Disco"...'nuff said. True, her performance is not Michael Jackson or James Brown material, but who is? At least, she has a voice to sing unlike Beyonce which goes everywhere. Though you can't exclude that there are still other great performances all around like D-Train, Cheryl Lynn, Tina Turner, and all of the funk bands forgotten today. Those old school artist still kick ass.
Today's Female 'pop' stars from Beyonnce, Fergie, Gwen, Kelly, Alica and others could take pointers from this legendary performer.
She belongs in the Rock N Roll hall of Fame a long time ago. She was much better than any of her peers in Pre-MTV era of Female Pop singers ie Debbie Harry(Blondie)Gloria Gaynor, Linda Rosdandt, Pat Bentar or Olivla Newton-John.
Are you for real?! Donna is an excellent singer, but a performer, she is not. I love Donna, but she is actually quite boring to watch in concert. She always has been. In reality, she could have learned A LOT about showmanship from Beyonce, and I'm not EVEN a Beyonce fan.
I'm not religious myself, but the quality of the songs/lyrics on "The Wanderer" album is very impressive. Pity she had peaked commercially by that time.
Though they did collaborated together again in 1983 with "Romeo"....but after this album, she released her 1982 self-titled that was produced by Qunincy Jones.
This brings back memories. The quality of her voice always didn't come through with all the synthesizers on her work. But her voice is really good and I love listening to her. She ruled my albums in the 70's and 80's.
Call me crazy...but I always hear Cyndi Lauper when I hear this song. I mean I can totally hear her singing this song instead of Donna. Me thinks her voice is more appropriate for this song. Ironically when Cyndi got a record deal in 1982, her label arranged a meeting with Giorgio Moroder to see if she could work with him. She was offended at his pompous attitude toward his music and chose not to work with him.
I remember hearing this song when one of the Voyager spacraft was passing by Saturn.I'M A WANDERER,I TRAVEL EVERY PLACE,I'M A WANDERER,FROM HERE TO OUTER SPACE.
This song is most definately a far cry from her earlier 70,s disco hits, this is more like new wave, during 1979-81 music was definitely straying awayfrom the 70.s disco sound.artists such as Devo,B-52s,tom tom club, talking heads were evident of this around that time, although the music still got u down on the dance floor, donna summer definitely rocks this song and the video definitely has the feel of early mtv
i like this album..donna is a pioneer, the album this is from has the track grand illusion on it, and it means donna summer was probably the first to use the linndrum machine (sample playback drums) commercially, as that is what is doing the drums on that track..very modern for 1980..love this song and video.....
I didn't know there was a video to this song ever. This is one of first songs I remember listening to as a child. This was her first effort for the then new label, Geffen Records.
Donna Summer has repeated time and time again that she didnt make any derogatory remarks against gays. Get your facts straight before spouting off!!!!
Yes I know she has said many times, but my 2 best gay friends were there that night, and I tend to believe them ,,they havre never lied to me for any reason and I have known both since 1977.
That's how every rumor starts... "But so-and-so said they heard her say <insert rumor> so it must be true!"
Come on like anyone will believe you on the internet. Unless you got actual proof she said those things about gays (and not the he-said she-said crap), I suggest you shut up.
It is true, I knew too many people that went to that concert. and it was not a myth. Even A straight Cop who was there, reported it along with several reporters from severl publications,,,,,Born agains have what I call hyper religosity, when they first get saved ,,they go buck ass wild and try and spread the word to every one,,,its nausiating.
The proof was that the audience cleard out that night , because of what she said ,, it also was all over the major networks and Time Magazine ,,It was every where, The cop was just on duty,,and admitted it was true,,,reporters etc. sorry ya cant get out of this one .
So where's the proof? Being that this is at a concert there should be some video footage of it somewhere or at least an article from a mainstream magazine.
She has also said that what she said (whatever it was), might have been taken out of context. And we all know that such things DO happen. So let's get it over with and enjoy her gift of music!
It was'nt "taken out of context", that is just her side of the story as it is with with the recent "fag " word being said by that actor. I do love to hear Donna Summer, yet, I can never be a full on fan again.
When MTV first came out, it was a hassle to have black artist on the channel (like Prince, Michael, and even Donna Summer. It's funny because Wanderer was like New Wave
You don't believe nobody else posted it?!? I don't believe that, after 26 years there was even a video for this!?! This is the FIRST time I've ever seen this!! I just typed it in out of curiosity, and there it was!! Thanx so much for sharing it!!
I loved this album, and it actually received high marks from the critics ... love the songs the Wanderer and I Believe in Jesus ... Cold Love ... okay, I like the whole thing ... cuz I'm a Wanderer!
Donna is superb in this song. The Wanderer was e breakthrough in her career since Disco was fading when it was released. She showed that she could do a lot more.
This song rocks!!!!!

Those old school artist still kick ass.

hell no. her and beyonce are fantastic.
Chacha5678 4 years ago

After hearing a clip of this on Soul Train a few months ago, I actually paid attention to this song thereafter. It's catchy.

I'm not religious myself, but the quality of the songs/lyrics on "The Wanderer" album is very impressive. Pity she had peaked commercially by that time.

Wouldn't be the "On The Radio" video be also considered rare as well? That was an interesting video for 1979/1980 period, though.

Though they did collaborated together again in 1983 with "Romeo"....but after this album, she released her 1982 self-titled that was produced by Qunincy Jones.

"Romeo" is from the aborted '81 Rainbow album.....ah Mr Geffen, what were you thinking?

This is extremely rare...one of the last Giorgio Moroder collaborations.
83survivor 4 years ago
indeed - seek out any of the "I'm A Rainbow" era stuff if you can - one of the best kept secrets of LaDonna!
onecharmingbastard 4 years ago
This brings back memories. The quality of her voice always didn't come through with all the synthesizers on her work. But her voice is really good and I love listening to her. She ruled my albums in the 70's and 80's.

Disco die and donna did it so good by ending the disco era bu totally goin new wave.donna you are the REAL DISCO QUEEN DIVA. i love you.

Mega flashback. I don't think this ever was on MTV. I do remember hearing it on the radio. Such a change from her disco work.

Je suivrais l'été de Donna n'importe où, lorsque, n'importe où ! Été pour toujours !

She is the most diverse singer of all time. She could pull off disco, R&B, new wave and rock. This post-disco gem hit #3 pop, and #13 R&B in 1980.

That was after she sued CASABLANCA RECORDS, and the song rocks!!!

I lovedd Donna Summer until the born again thing , and her comments on gays.
ClemClemens1111 4 years ago
Donna Summer has repeated time and time again that she didnt make any derogatory remarks against gays. Get your facts straight before spouting off!!!!
rosbergs3 4 years ago 3
Yes I know she has said many times, but my 2 best gay friends were there that night, and I tend to believe them ,,they havre never lied to me for any reason and I have known both since 1977.
ClemClemens1111 4 years ago
That's how every rumor starts... "But so-and-so said they heard her say <insert rumor> so it must be true!"
Come on like anyone will believe you on the internet. Unless you got actual proof she said those things about gays (and not the he-said she-said crap), I suggest you shut up.
NoOneSpecial 4 years ago
It is true, I knew too many people that went to that concert. and it was not a myth. Even A straight Cop who was there, reported it along with several reporters from severl publications,,,,,Born agains have what I call hyper religosity, when they first get saved ,,they go buck ass wild and try and spread the word to every one,,,its nausiating.
ClemClemens1111 4 years ago
Nice detail. Now do you have proof?
NoOneSpecial 4 years ago
The proof was that the audience cleard out that night , because of what she said ,, it also was all over the major networks and Time Magazine ,,It was every where, The cop was just on duty,,and admitted it was true,,,reporters etc. sorry ya cant get out of this one .
ClemClemens1111 4 years ago
So where's the proof? Being that this is at a concert there should be some video footage of it somewhere or at least an article from a mainstream magazine.
NoOneSpecial 4 years ago
She has also said that what she said (whatever it was), might have been taken out of context. And we all know that such things DO happen. So let's get it over with and enjoy her gift of music!
fzkny 4 years ago
It was'nt "taken out of context", that is just her side of the story as it is with with the recent "fag " word being said by that actor. I do love to hear Donna Summer, yet, I can never be a full on fan again.
ClemClemens1111 4 years ago
The guy giving Donna a ride is her husband Bruce Sudano!

When MTV first came out, it was a hassle to have black artist on the channel (like Prince, Michael, and even Donna Summer. It's funny because Wanderer was like New Wave
