If you did the two loops with the string that he demonstrated and the Yo-Yo still sleeps, you likely have a non fixed axle Yo-Yo. Not a bad thing as different Yo-Yos are good for different kinds of tricks. What you can try doing is putting 3 or 4 loops on the axle to try to get enough string there to wedge the side pieces to stop the Yo-Yo from sleeping. Or you could just get a fixed axle Yo-Yo as well. You will probably want both types eventually for different tricks.

my yoyo had an auto return system and i had to do 3 loops to make it return. Is there an explanation?

Your Yo-Yo doesn't have a fixed axle. On a fixed axle Yo-Yo, 2 loops will allow it to grip the axle easily to prevent it from sleeping. However your axle doesn't move with the sides of the Yo-Yo, so you had to make more then 2 loops. What this has done is put enough string on the axle that it has wedged itself between the sides to prevent it from sleeping. Look at his video called How to Select a Yo-Yo for information on the different types of axles and it should make more seance.

it not tied it is one long line that is twisted so you have to untwist the untied side slightly

There isn't actually a tied knot at the end where the Yo-Yo goes. The two ends of the string are actually ending at the finger end, and the Yo-Yo is in the middle.

Think of the string laid out in the shape of a U. Then twists the two straight parts together. What you end up is with a loop on the bottom and two ends on the top. The loop on the bottom is where you put the loop around the Yo-Yo to grab onto the axle.
