I think they were made by Busch, got them at a train show for $10. They're manually activated for now but I believe they could be automated with proper circuitry.
Absolutely amazing detail!! Want to do some of the same stuff on my loco's? Just kidding! Great stuff though! You should enter it into those NMRA competitions if you haven't already!
Model railroading at its best! Awsome locomotive, great sound effects...I "felt" the weight of that train big time...and I love the fun TYCO billboard cars. I would pay addmission to see your layout run!
Thank you for the compliments! I like them "low & slow", that's how they were where I grew up (without the goofy Tyco cars of course but after all that rivetcounting I needed to lighten up a bit, LOL). Hard to find matching "low & slow" sound clips though!
I described the ditch lights to the previous commenter. Thanks again...!
Hmm, those ditchlights sound like a project for the "experts! (Of which I am not one, lol). Although I'd love to retrofit my collection of Kato and Protos with those darn ditchlights.
If you decide to post some more vids of your layout I wouldn't mind! Of all the HO vids I've seen on YT, this one's my favorite.
They were a details west kit... I had to midify the housings but that wasn't the hard part. The hard part was hooking them up! They are mounted to the shell, but have to be wired to the decoder. And since I kept the stock Proto weight which is HUGE, the wires could only be just. exactly. so. long. enough. to. work. but. still. fit. ARRGH!
Very nice ! much more realistic than the Tyco stuff. Looks almost real at points.

That is one INCREDIBLY beautiful loco!!! Like the previous commenter, I would also be interested in what you did to create the ditch lights.
I also appreciated the "low and slow" view you gave us of your interesting rolling stock. Very nice!

Very cool video - good synch with actual rail sounds. What did you use for the ditch lights?
