"There are particular moments in public affairs when the people, stimulated by some irregular passion, or some illicit advantage, or misled by the artful misrepresentations of interested men, may call for measures which they themselves will afterwards be the most ready to lament and condemn."
My wife and I are part of these "americans" she talks about but we are not "taking heart that this bill will pass" We have 10 kids, we make a very modest salleray but we are covered with blue cross and it takes GOOD care of us.
A - Nancy Palosi has never had a smart word exit her mouth
B - Government is to protect this countries boarder from foreign invaders.
C - Government is designed to give everyone freedom of choice. If your to lazy to work, you starve. That's a choice. (of course in times like this some people can not help it.) C1 - If you don't know what birth control is. To bad, take care of the kids with your own money. Freedom of choice. You choose how many kids you want. Not how much they worth
Are you automatically assuming that large families are poor. I know a whole bunch of families with 5+ kids who are self sufficient, do not rely on government aid, etc. Grant it we don't have the latest electronics, cars, and upscale clothes but we manage. Having large families is not the problem it is irresponsibility with money and getting an education that is the problem not large families.
I do agree with you for B, probably most of A, and about half of C.
first of all. Thanks for not resorting to cussing and foul language like most people do.
I would assume your comment is in reply to "You choose how many kids you want. Not how much they worth."
That comment is in reference to the people who have kids to increase welfare/assistance. To which those people fall into the category of "Irresponsibility."
Ok, thanks for clarifying. I should of thought that thats what you meant, but I wanted to make sure. I just find it kind of annoying when people bash large families. I do agree with you that if you can't provide for a family you shouldn't have one. I am not offended just wanted to clarify. Sorry about the mistake. Have a great day.
"people with special needs...can take heart in knowing this bill will pass."
Page 354 of the proposed bill talks about how they will limit enrollment of special needs people into the public option and ration those that are in it.
So many people don't want this health care bill!!! Nobody has been, "waiting a long time" 'cause nobody wants it!!! Pelosi doesn't know shit about the American people. Ronald Reagen said that when government starts paying for health care we will become a SOCIALIST nation. And we all know how well Socialism has worked out for the everyday man in so many other countries!!!! If you don't you should research socialism and learn of it horrors!
We are already paying for health care through Medicare and Medicaid this plan is only extending it so we most definitely are in partial socialism right now. Thats why the democrats can't say it was the free market that caused this problem because the government has been messing with the market for over 40 years.
Just so others don't misconstrue what I am saying I think that they can get a public option right, which I have serious doubts then it would be a good idea. What I am most concerned with is the price tag. The government can't borrow money forever and if the government goes bankrupt then you can sya bye to any government safety net and the military for that matter.
There is an interesting article by Leonard E. Burman called Catastrophic Budget Failure that talks about this possible scenario a little I think he also has some links on his site.
In some states you can not buy an out of state insurance policy thus reducing competition and allowing for more statewide monoplies on health insurance. From the evidence I have just shown it is not the free market that has caused a lot of the health care mess it is government meddling and pandering to special interests corporate hospitals. I propose we fix some of the issues already present and then we can think about a pubic option and other programs.
First the CBO says we cant afford trillions in healthcare 2nd if you want healthcare try getting monies from illegal aliens The Center for Immigration Studies claims $338.3 Billion spent on healthcare for illegal aliens a years anything from food shelter homes and cars. Lieing traitor this woman is!
Current regulations favor big corporate, regional hospitals thus allowing for less competition. Many specialty hospitals are being forced out by new regulations because the politically connected corporate hospitals don't like the competition. Many states mandate that health insurance cover everything instead of just expenisive procedures this creates higher insurance premiums and more paperwork for doctors which drives up health care costs.
People today expect too much. We all need shelter; Should every American be entitled to a big new home?
People are free to harm themselves as they wish, just pay for it on your own dime NOT MINE.
Coverage needs to be for catastrophic and emergency care only, all else is paid out of pocket or perhaps with local financial assistance for those in need (no freebees).
The thing with that is many states mandate that insurers cover a wide variety of medical needs so the only way to allow for insurance with only that coverage you need to change some states laws.
Lots of companies, lots of plans - yet no one yet forces anyone to buy anything. Mandates are on what must be offered, not on what must be bought. No Gov should be forcing people to buy anything, like auto liability insurance ;)
I would agree that the government shouldn't force insurance on someone. But a Drivers license is a privilege not a right. So, in my opinion, having the mandatory liability insurance is legit. Why do you think your drivers license can be suspended, revoked, or never gotten. Because it's a privilege.
I think the bigger issue is forcing people against their will to provide insurance for those who do not have it, for whatever reason. It is your basic redistribution of our wealth. B. Hussein's dream of socialism and denying us any say in the matter.
With the growing number of people who feel like the world owes them something, whom do not want to work, and those whom have screwed their lives up so badly that they can't work. Will naturally be the ones who want this kind of thing to pass. Anything they do not have to work for is something extra they receive. Unfortunately this country is turning into a catering party for lazy people. *NOTE* my statement does not include those laid off, or lost jobs from either out sourcing, or closing.
Not a valid argument, two different systems. The "average taxpayer" will not receive the same level of healthcare services that epresentatives receive from their plan. These are entirely different plans. Healthcare for Congress is "contracted" rather than "gov provided". The gov just picks up the tab for services. The service level one could expect would be similar to the Veterans Admin or Medicaid, perhaps less. Service levels of Medicare and Social Security will be cut dramatically.
Medicare operates to care for people, while the health care industry is in business to make money for its investors (and pay exorbitant management fees). Two different goals, two different results.
Furthermore, Medicare's 3-5% overhead vs. the 25%-35% overhead for private insurers should show people how those results are structured.
People might also want to note that the very same "representatives" standing in the way of a single payer plan for the rest of us, are themselves enjoying the benefits of "government run health care". - Do you hear them complaining?
@wrstlerdude160 - So, your point is that Congresspersons get better health care than the populace? Thanks for making my point. - By the way, those representatives that stood in the way of health care for the rest of us, STILL get much better health care than average US citizens. - Refute that! - Really, work on your reading comprehension skills.
this bill was shoved down our throats, its going to be more costly than it was originally said, and the majority of americans want to repeal it. refute that
Currently, the people in the US pay twice as much per capita for health care as people in other countries and yet we get a fraction of their quality of care. - Why is that? - Because in the US, the health care industry is siphoning money from people's premiums to create profit for their investors and pay obscene management fees.
That is because of "regulatory induced oligopoly" from regulations imposed by BOTH parties. We need to change the regulations to foster competitive markets. Healthcare markets are "protected markets" and restrain free trade. This bill will only complicate matters and foster a "MCO cartel" in the market. Study economic theories of competition, "near perfect", oligopoly, and monopoly. Additionally, as a nation we simply cannot afford this bill, along with all the other entitlements coming due.
wrt: "we as a nation simply cannot afford this bill..." - Perhaps, you can explain to me why we as a nation can afford $800 billion dollars in 6 years for a war that has only exacerbated the problem with global terrorism. Or perhaps you can explain to me why we could afford a trillion dollars for the bailouts and yet we can't afford a lesser amount to provide health care for citizens of this country.
I never argued for either or the war or the bailout bill. I am against both. I don't why you made that assumption. I am only stating the facts. Even Warren Buffet said the same thing. As a nation, we are broke. We also have 53 trillion in unfunded obligations for Medicare and Social Security.
My point is that as long as corporations own this country, they will see to it that there is never enough money for significant (and direly needed) health care reform. - All the while their pockets continue to be lined with profits from the death of millions.
$200 billion a year is being siphoned from people's premiums to create profit for investors. - That's $200 billion a year more that could be spent on actual health care. That's significant.
That's $200 billion a year for care that is ALREADY being paid for and yet the people that pay that $200 reap no health care benefit. - Waste in the current system? You bet there is.
Profit or return on capital is not evil. Keep in mind that additional capital is returned when profit is achieved, which allows a business to grow and further serve the market. If firms are in competition, the focus is on the consumer and they will strive to gain that customer by reducing price and improving service. However, if the company can eliminate competition through horizontal or vertical integration, then it no longer has to "earn its customers" and can charge more but serve less.
But that can't be forced. I do agree with you that there needs to be much more responsibility, compassion and ethics in the healthcare market, which i think is probably your deep concern, or what I sense that bothers you about our current system. I agree 100% with that notion.
wrt: "...there needs to be much more responsibility, compassion and ethics in the health care market." - Yes! - The lack of social justice and compassion in the current system trouble me greatly.
The healthcare market is not a "fee market", as many on the left have suggested, but rather "regulatory induced oligopoly". Corporations have colluded with government to limit competition and protect their markets. America use to break-up monopolies in order to foster competition in the market place, because it was seen as "restraint of free trade". Today, this has become the status quo. We need to reform the regulations to allow for marketplace competition That will drive cost down/service up.
"reform the regulations" - Deregulation? - How'd that work for the Savings and Loan and mortgage industries? - Sure, place more responsibility (and potential profit) in the hands of those that got us in this predicament. - Sounds like a recipe for disaster to me.
That is not what I am suggesting. You're right, if you deregulate a market that created oligopoly competition there is nothing to prevent these companies from colluding and really abusing the consumer. They actually need to breakup some of the very large conglomerates to foster competition and allow multi-state licensing so you that you can shop the 1,300 or so firms nationwide, rather than just those in your local community.
wrt: "You're right, if you deregulate a market..." - I also see a lot of redundancy and waste in what you propose. For instance, today I learned that since 2000, the big pharmaceuticals have spent 2 1/2 more times on advertising than they did research. - Given the circumstances, I have to wonder if such behavior should be criminal.
We would have to get into specifics. I managed Capital Accounting and Project finance for a major hospital for years. I saw was tremendous redundancy and waste in the regulations, particularly with the government. I also witnessed how the government wasted taxpayer money when I worked as an auditor, and that was in the day when people cared about ethics Market and selling is not all bad in the pharrm companies, they spend a lot of money training doctors, etc., but there are serious abuses.
@im4wur or what about 878 billion dollars for a bill that created temporary jobs that obviously as you can see has done sh*t with a 9.6 unemployment rate. oh wait not to forget this bill was to "work immediately"
@mbdouglass - Frankly, I prefer stimulus money being spent in this country to hold off another great depression, than the trillion dollars spent by Bush in Iraq to make the problems of global terrorism worse. - "Bush's War Good for al Qaeda" ( watch?v=ap401z3S54Q )
"I think terrorist analysts outside of government, inside the CIA, terrorism analysts in European governments, there's a great consensus that the U.S. occupation of Iraq is the best thing that ever happened to al Qaeda, in terms of recruitment and fund raising." - Richard Clarke
...and Bush's war in Iraq only cost US taxpayers a trillion dollars, 4400 US troops dead, countless innocent Iraqis dead, squandered international goodwill (the best weapon against terrorism) and further resulted in: "...the best thing that ever happened to al Qaeda, in terms of recruitment and fund raising."
Care to double down with the GOP? Or did you learn something about republican values during the Bush administration? - It's clear, Democrats are often inept, but Republicans don't even care about the American people.
she lied to the pope and you think she would tell us the truth, she and the rest of this socialist administration to need to go before it's too late and we end up a third world nation run by these idiots
Nancy Pelosi scoffs at her poll numbers (shes tied in the popularity ratings with O.J. Simpson and genital herpes). But at least you can control O.J. (jail) and herpes (Valtrex). Democrats in the House of Representatives elected Nancy Pelosi to be the leader of the their party. Is she the best leader the Democrats have to offer? Pelosi is a psychotic delusional paranoid, but is a pathological liar to boot.
Pelosi, Waxman, Miller, Waters, Boxer, they fit together like LEGO'S.
why don't you, boxer, barney, reed odumba and all the rest of you lunies go to kenya and make your plea there odumba would be proud and then you could live your socialist dream, vote them out in 2010
Doesn't Pelosi remind you of one of those circus clowns that you throw the balls at? I would love to hit her hard, and wipe the smile off of her evil face. She is royally screwing up our country, and she does so with a smile.
a win win??? for who.. the medical profession that won't have to clean up its shit and greed because the real issue isn't being addressed???!!! Get this stupid bitch out of office.
wow... let me guess 3star2nr, when is the last time had a reality check. I'll bet you're still looking under your pillow to see what the toothfairy left you. One F*cking wrong move here on health care and it will take over a decade to fix it.. most likely 2 decades. I can tell that you don't think the gov has done anything wrong with public education or the welfare system either. God 3star2nr, you are a perfect example of why I just hate what our schools are putting out as graduates.

To find out how horrible (and scary) this "health plan" is please Google: " Deadly Doctors O Advisers Want to Ration Care " and read the article by Betsy McCaughey, dated July 24, 2009 in the NY Post.
It has some very important info concerning Obama's appointed Health-Policy advisers.
If you believe betsy Mc YOU are in need of a doctor, sorry. She was totally debunked and even resigned after Jon Stewrat's show. She is a pathological liar and it's very easy to check her intere$t$ on the health ins. companies

It's not a rush, it's about the American people who've been waiting.. blah blah.
Again - Why The Rush?
The bill won't go into effect until 2013 whether they pass it today, or next year.
The ONLY reason to rush it is to prevent people having time to read and understand the bill.
And it's too late to prevent that, many of us have read it, and refuse is.
States are already passing laws that Bar it being enforced if it is passed, and the next admin is just going to repeal it anyway.

wrt: "we as a nation simply cannot afford this bill..." - Perhaps, you can explain to me why we as a nation can afford $800 billion dollars in 6 years for a war that has only exacerbated the problem with global terrorism. Or perhaps you can explain to me why we could afford a trillion dollars for the bailouts and yet we can't afford a lesser amount to provide health care for citizens of this country.
im4wur 2 years ago 5
I never argued for either or the war or the bailout bill. I am against both. I don't why you made that assumption. I am only stating the facts. Even Warren Buffet said the same thing. As a nation, we are broke. We also have 53 trillion in unfunded obligations for Medicare and Social Security.
TripperLV 2 years ago
My point is that as long as corporations own this country, they will see to it that there is never enough money for significant (and direly needed) health care reform. - All the while their pockets continue to be lined with profits from the death of millions.
im4wur 2 years ago 4
$200 billion a year is being siphoned from people's premiums to create profit for investors. - That's $200 billion a year more that could be spent on actual health care. That's significant.
im4wur 2 years ago 3
That's $200 billion a year for care that is ALREADY being paid for and yet the people that pay that $200 reap no health care benefit. - Waste in the current system? You bet there is.
im4wur 2 years ago 4
Profit or return on capital is not evil. Keep in mind that additional capital is returned when profit is achieved, which allows a business to grow and further serve the market. If firms are in competition, the focus is on the consumer and they will strive to gain that customer by reducing price and improving service. However, if the company can eliminate competition through horizontal or vertical integration, then it no longer has to "earn its customers" and can charge more but serve less.
TripperLV 2 years ago
wrt: "Profit or return on capital is not evil" - Agreed. - However, some things are even more important than profit.
im4wur 2 years ago 3
But that can't be forced. I do agree with you that there needs to be much more responsibility, compassion and ethics in the healthcare market, which i think is probably your deep concern, or what I sense that bothers you about our current system. I agree 100% with that notion.
TripperLV 2 years ago
wrt: "...there needs to be much more responsibility, compassion and ethics in the health care market." - Yes! - The lack of social justice and compassion in the current system trouble me greatly.
im4wur 2 years ago 4
An inequitable system is immoral and hence unsustainable.
im4wur 2 years ago 3
The healthcare market is not a "fee market", as many on the left have suggested, but rather "regulatory induced oligopoly". Corporations have colluded with government to limit competition and protect their markets. America use to break-up monopolies in order to foster competition in the market place, because it was seen as "restraint of free trade". Today, this has become the status quo. We need to reform the regulations to allow for marketplace competition That will drive cost down/service up.
TripperLV 2 years ago
"reform the regulations" - Deregulation? - How'd that work for the Savings and Loan and mortgage industries? - Sure, place more responsibility (and potential profit) in the hands of those that got us in this predicament. - Sounds like a recipe for disaster to me.
im4wur 2 years ago 4
That is not what I am suggesting. You're right, if you deregulate a market that created oligopoly competition there is nothing to prevent these companies from colluding and really abusing the consumer. They actually need to breakup some of the very large conglomerates to foster competition and allow multi-state licensing so you that you can shop the 1,300 or so firms nationwide, rather than just those in your local community.
TripperLV 2 years ago
wrt: "You're right, if you deregulate a market..." - I also see a lot of redundancy and waste in what you propose. For instance, today I learned that since 2000, the big pharmaceuticals have spent 2 1/2 more times on advertising than they did research. - Given the circumstances, I have to wonder if such behavior should be criminal.
im4wur 2 years ago 3
We would have to get into specifics. I managed Capital Accounting and Project finance for a major hospital for years. I saw was tremendous redundancy and waste in the regulations, particularly with the government. I also witnessed how the government wasted taxpayer money when I worked as an auditor, and that was in the day when people cared about ethics Market and selling is not all bad in the pharrm companies, they spend a lot of money training doctors, etc., but there are serious abuses.
TripperLV 2 years ago
@im4wur or what about 878 billion dollars for a bill that created temporary jobs that obviously as you can see has done sh*t with a 9.6 unemployment rate. oh wait not to forget this bill was to "work immediately"
mbdouglass 1 year ago
@mbdouglass - Frankly, I prefer stimulus money being spent in this country to hold off another great depression, than the trillion dollars spent by Bush in Iraq to make the problems of global terrorism worse. - "Bush's War Good for al Qaeda" ( watch?v=ap401z3S54Q )

"I think terrorist analysts outside of government, inside the CIA, terrorism analysts in European governments, there's a great consensus that the U.S. occupation of Iraq is the best thing that ever happened to al Qaeda, in terms of recruitment and fund raising." - Richard Clarke
im4wur 1 year ago
...and Bush's war in Iraq only cost US taxpayers a trillion dollars, 4400 US troops dead, countless innocent Iraqis dead, squandered international goodwill (the best weapon against terrorism) and further resulted in: "...the best thing that ever happened to al Qaeda, in terms of recruitment and fund raising."

Care to double down with the GOP? Or did you learn something about republican values during the Bush administration? - It's clear, Democrats are often inept, but Republicans don't even care about the American people.

Doesn't Pelosi remind you of one of those circus clowns that you throw the balls at? I would love to hit her hard, and wipe the smile off of her evil face. She is royally screwing up our country, and she does so with a smile.
