  • "oh father dear i often hear you speak of erin's isle

her lofty scenes, her valleys green, her mountains rude and wild

they say it is a lovely land

    wherein a prince might dwell

then why did you abandon it

    the reason to me tell"

    ...correct? *.* i love it...and i love ireland !!

  • This melody will always give me chills

  • salute to all irish from croatia, RIP Ronnie Drew

  • We Will remember, Mick O'Neill.

  • I have two regrets in life: Not being born in Ireland, and never seeing Ronnie Drew in concert.

    An amazing person.

  • I saw the Dubliners a few weeks ago. I really miss Ronnie.

  • Awsome...

  • RIP Dear Ronnie

  • its just...haunting :...)

  • This is one of the few songs I hear that actually make my heart hurt Never Forget!

    James Patrick Fannin

  • best typo ever. "ballet group" lol

  • I can just imagine Ronnie in a tutu!!!

  • He could have pulled it off. He's Ronnie Drew, as long as you could give him a tune to sing, he would have entetained the crowd.

  • Probably the most interesting and best deep voice the world had ever heard.

Rest in Peace, your songs are alive!

    Greetings to Ronnie Drew from

    medianmusic

  • A great song! 5stars

    R.I.P. ronnie drew.

  • Thank you, Ronnie. Sleep deep, it will be done.

  • ...ihr seid unterdurchschnittlich...das sansa dubliners ihr luhsers...sagsta gleich un alles wär goot...naja thx 4 uploading ^^

  • I don't know, I just can't see Ronnie and the boys dancing Swan Lake. Thank God they gave up that nonsense and took up singing. it was a good run ol boy, rest in piece

  • Brilliant song , but i wonder what the "Ballet Group" tagging was all about back then ?

    Strange

  • the "Ballet group" thing was just a mistake, of course they were called the "Ronnie Drew Ballad Group" on all the other occasions.

  • ballad group

  • @howdofolks

Dance Instruction school used "Ronnie Drew and the Dubliners" to draw a crowd to sign people up for dancing lessons. English dancing, Irish dancing and a ballet group. :-)

  • RIP Ronnie, 'tis a sad day for us all.

  • RIP ronnie, uve left us, but behind u is a legacy like no others, u were a hero in ur own right, not liberating ireland with violence or treaties, but through your beautiful music

  • RIP Ronnie, you were one of the best.

  • sleep tight r i p ronnie

  • Uppa ra , ronnie..

  • Fantastic, one of the great rebel songs, and never better sung.

  • Loud and high,

    We'll raise the cry:

    REVENGE FOR SKIBBEREEN!

Such an epic piece, one of my favourite anti-English tunes. ^^

  • and we shall have our revenge one day, our day will come, for bobby sands, raymond mccreesh, and francis hughs, and the rest of our 10 martyrs, for the 14 who died in derry and for the 800+ years of oppression, ireland will one day be whole and unified

  • I've heard a brillant version of this song

by Gorman and O'Kane in New York. If only I could hear it again pure class.

  • ain't no better version than hearin this man sing it in person!

RIP Ronnie Drew, your legacy will live on

  • til this day i never pay the tax man .. basterds . lol

  • I forgot to say how moving this ballad is ... respect ... and Sinead's well cool and all

  • I reckon that whatever Ronnie sings ... he gives such an extra depth of feeling ... listen to And the Band Played Waltzing Matilda ... It's hard to listen to without it bringin a tear to yer eye ... its a song about the results of war

  • One of the greatest Irish songs ever. Unbelievably moving.

  • Sinead O' Connor a pop singer? Are you serious? Sort your ears out.

  • This song totally owns.

"And loud and high, we'll raise the cry: revenge for Skibbereen!"

  • Ha, can just imagine the boys doing Swan Lake in their tu-tus. Ballad Group methinks.

  • Last year in 8th grade history class, we were learning about the Irish potato famine and we listened to this song by Sinead O'Connor and I thought it sucked but now that I heard it by Ronnie it seems so much better!

  • sinead o'connor is a pop singer not a pub song like 7 drunken nights or a rebel song like this or go on home british soldiers of course ronnie would be better then her, still in agreeance with you

  • Have you heard Sinead singing a great version of the Foggy Dew with the Chieftains.

She can sing rebels songs !

  • well i suppose your right, i should give her a fair play rather than judge her by her normal work ,she did the foggy dew? didnt know that, its one of my favorite songs

  • Since when did you have to sing rebel songs to be a folk singer? She does a lot of proper Irish songs, but they're not solely about war ¬_¬ some rebel songs are great but there's actually a lot more to the Irish

  • I've always loved this song. It is even more special when sung by Ronnie Drew. Thanks for this!

  • Aha! I love you man!
