What kind of a moron could have thought that these lads with beards and banjos would pirouette around a stage?? "sensation in the Irish and England dancing world"!!! They would have been a sensation, for sure
i agree with seanousboy i am an irish man living in germany and had the pleasure of seeing this awesome 2 guys last month at a small venue wow thes 2 dudes are going to be massive mark my words i have never witness such amazing tallent this guy maxi danton is going to be the biggest artist to come out of ireland there was people fainting i couldent believe what i was witnessing his awesome simple awesome
i am irelands leading irish folk music critic and i have heard every version of this grt song after 40 yrs experience i can honestly say secrets revealed one movement myspace is the name u hav 2 type out 2 hear what these guys did wit this song and i back up what other music critics have said about these guys that there debut album will stand the test of time and be here in 100 yrs time i urge all lovers of pioneering music 2 listen 2 there music and you wont be dissapointed
I don't know, I just can't see Ronnie and the boys dancing Swan Lake. Thank God they gave up that nonsense and took up singing. it was a good run ol boy, rest in piece
Dance Instruction school used "Ronnie Drew and the Dubliners" to draw a crowd to sign people up for dancing lessons. English dancing, Irish dancing and a ballet group. :-)
RIP ronnie, uve left us, but behind u is a legacy like no others, u were a hero in ur own right, not liberating ireland with violence or treaties, but through your beautiful music
and we shall have our revenge one day, our day will come, for bobby sands, raymond mccreesh, and francis hughs, and the rest of our 10 martyrs, for the 14 who died in derry and for the 800+ years of oppression, ireland will one day be whole and unified
I reckon that whatever Ronnie sings ... he gives such an extra depth of feeling ... listen to And the Band Played Waltzing Matilda ... It's hard to listen to without it bringin a tear to yer eye ... its a song about the results of war
Last year in 8th grade history class, we were learning about the Irish potato famine and we listened to this song by Sinead O'Connor and I thought it sucked but now that I heard it by Ronnie it seems so much better!
sinead o'connor is a pop singer not a pub song like 7 drunken nights or a rebel song like this or go on home british soldiers of course ronnie would be better then her, still in agreeance with you
well i suppose your right, i should give her a fair play rather than judge her by her normal work ,she did the foggy dew? didnt know that, its one of my favorite songs
Since when did you have to sing rebel songs to be a folk singer? She does a lot of proper Irish songs, but they're not solely about war ¬_¬ some rebel songs are great but there's actually a lot more to the Irish
am sorry to say but thomas mccarthy version of this song is the best one

"oh father dear i often hear you speak of erin's isle
her lofty scenes, her valleys green, her mountains rude and wild
they say it is a lovely land
wherein a prince might dwell
then why did you abandon it
the reason to me tell"
...correct? *.* i love it...and i love ireland !!

I have two regrets in life: Not being born in Ireland, and never seeing Ronnie Drew in concert.
An amazing person.

He could have pulled it off. He's Ronnie Drew, as long as you could give him a tune to sing, he would have entetained the crowd.
tevyethemad 2 years ago
Probably the most interesting and best deep voice the world had ever heard.
Rest in Peace, your songs are alive!
Greetings to Ronnie Drew from

Brilliant song , but i wonder what the "Ballet Group" tagging was all about back then ?
Strange

the "Ballet group" thing was just a mistake, of course they were called the "Ronnie Drew Ballad Group" on all the other occasions.

Loud and high,
We'll raise the cry:
REVENGE FOR SKIBBEREEN!
Such an epic piece, one of my favourite anti-English tunes. ^^
