Thank You PATBIZE for answering my question...........you know every once in a while that song has popped into my head.........over many many years..........great tune !
Ahhhhhh,,,,!!!! That's Jerry Blavats! A Philly legend He was still on the radio when I lived in Philadelphia back in the 80's! He was also still throwing parties back then.
I'm only 33, but I love listening to his show on 92.1. Listen to it every weekday at work, 5pm sharp. It's my last hour before I leave for the day and gets me through the final moments!
About 12-15 years ago I went down to Florida for the first time in my life. I had already been listening to Jerry for about that long. Well as my brother is just finishing putting his cycle in the back of our transit... who pulls up at the light but the Geator in the Geatormobile! Perfect timing. Five minutes later we were on our way. It was like straight outta my own American Graffiti!
I just pointed and said You... are mah main man and he said the same!
Me and my buddy Ron Falcone would go to Che Vous every week. Jerry was a gas, it was good clean fun back in those days. Thank God for YouTube to bring back the memories.
This vid is a priceless gem! As a yon-teen I faithfully traveled from Lancaster, PA to Philadelphia to Wagner's & Chevous Ballroom just for "The Geator's" dances, and would return to Lancaster with all the hot, new Philly steps, including the "Wagner Walk"...anyone remember that one? Great post...thanx for sharing!!!
My sister and I never missed a show on TV all through high school when we were "yon teens". Many great Philly sound groups were first heard on Jerry Blavat's show. My high school had a strong clique of "jive" kids who all dressed in the Lit Bros. discophonic scene style. Jerry was the Big Boss the the Hot Sauce! Kids today just don't have this much fun!
I always heard that "Geator" was a play on the word Gator (as in alligator) because his music sort of pounced on you, like a Gator. I always wondered this myself, and heard this explanation in a Philly Magazine article that was done on the Geator several years ago.
I am from baltimore, but lived in Philly in the 60s as a kid, and I thought the Geator was long gone. He is still doing his thing, going strong.
My father is from Philly and he sent me this video to show me what he used to do/watch. I have to admit that I'm jealous of his generation for having such fun stuff to do.
I was born right around this time, I watched these reruns as a kid in the 70's, your right, they had fun back then, and no one killed anyone either! Yeah, there were fights and mischief, yet, people still respected each other and there property!
Love those Yon Teens! We are very blessed in Philly to have had Jerry "The Boss with the big hot sauce" Blavat. Philly rocked with The Geator and other greats such as Joe Niagra and Hy Lit.
This is from Ben Vaughn's unreleased documentary on the Geator. Jerry gave him the footage from the few clips he has of his old Discophonic Scene TV show.
I wish somebody would post all of those introductions that he recorded on his compilation LPs. They are wild. A truly unique style.

Nice to hear he's still kicking. (Especially because it was starting to look like nobody famous was going to survive this past June!)
mimi2957 2 years ago
Well, he is a fast talking Geator, A local street term! He was a disc jockey and MC, the "Geator with the heater", the heater being his mouth!
