@andrewsapirate We usually always have to attempt revival. We have to get orders from our Medical Command to pronounce here. Usually, they wont allow us to pronounce traumatic arrest unless there is obvious mortal injury. But, every department has their own way of doing it. There is no clear right/wrong way. Stay safe!
we all work codes differently and any other medic out there can tell you that chest compressions and vents arent always going on 100 % of the time...so you shouldn't complain about that.
my only question is why they are flying a trauma code? maybe its protocal for their agency? not sure..found that interesting though.
Because some agencies, like the one I work for, do not allow EMT's to call a death on a trauma pt. unless there is 1. decapitation. 2 decomposition. 3. rigor mortis. or 4 lividity. other than that we must work the code untill medical control gives us the ok to stop, but that's usually after we get to the hospital.
That is crazy - if the pt. is asystolic, the outcome has been found to be 0% survival rate. And it really doesn't look like they were bothering anyway - the compressions were sloppy as they were putting him on the aircraft, and there were periods of at least 20 seconds of no (or very poor) ECCs anyway: which is unacceptable by any standards. No offence to the EMTs: They knew he was dead.
They actually fly traumatic arrests there?? Not here. Oh, and flares at an LZ??? NO WAY! Don`t think of using them here. If ANY of the birds around here see fuses at LZ`s, they find a different LZ on their own. Can`t say I blame them.
Theyre flying a trauma code? We dont usually do that.

@ODST131 We normally won't even work a traumatic arrest.

Good Footage, but Most Helicopters won't fly out a Cardiac Arrest 2nd to an MVA.
Doesn't mean they won't take em by ground to nearest hosptial tho.

What was the cause?
DUI?
No seat-belts?
Ridiculous all this expense and waste over dead meat.
Unless the guy was truly salvageable.
Then do everything possible for him.

Working as a photojournalist i've noticed many occasions where the cameras are there for a transport that compressions are done.

We dont fly pulseless apneic pts in Oklahoma either, and flares are a big no no with the birds here as well ;)
Firemedic712 2 years ago
@Firemedic712 why no flares? what do they do to birds?
rookiekf123 1 year ago
@rookiekf123 You don't want a helicopter blowing a lit flare all over the place, its like a flying torch. Bird=Helicopter btw.
Firemedic712 1 year ago
@Firemedic712 Oh I thought you were referring to flares and birds specifically. Makes sense.
