Just got my QY100. Trying 2 get accompaniments to follow my keyboard playing w/left hand to make my keyboard perform like a Tyros arranger-type keyboard. I have the QY earphone out cable going into my keyboard audio-in jack and playing through the keyboards amplified monitors . I have my keyboard midi out cable to the QY midi in. QY setting Midi Sync=External, QYMidi Control=In. No Good. Settings correct? Am I supposed to add a 2nd midi cable going from QY out to keyboard midi in? Thx
@Halunlimited You don't have to have a return path unless you also want to control the keyboard with the QY. Are you sure the keyboard is set to do MIDI out and is generating it's own clock? Are you sure your keyboard is set to play external sounds properly? It sounds like you have your QY set correctly, so I'd look to the keyboard settings. That said, I don't own a QY, and you didn't even mention what type of keyboard you're using, this is just general MIDI info.
Arrgh! You're making me jealous! I'd love a Qy sequencer of some sort but can't find one cheap enough at the moment. You got a really nice sequence out of these bits of gear. Didn't know the internal sounds on the Qy sounded so good. Nice one!
You should go for the QY70 if you get the chance - Cheaper, better battery life... no memory card or amp simulator, but those are about the only differences. The QY100 will go for about 45minutes on 6AAs before crapping out.
Thanks for the advice, I'll keep my eyes peeled for one. The only hardware sequencer I have is a Qx7 which is pretty rubbish, saves to tape and sometimes even loads from tape!
ChrisLody: If it's not essential for your sequencer to be as small as the QY700, then Yamaha's RM1x groovebox is worth checking out. The 16-track sequencer is pretty much the same as the QY700's but far easier to navigate. And even though it was released around 1999, the sounds are more contemporary than those on the QY700. The ability of mix and mash beats on the RM1x is excellent.

The yammy sequencers are easily the best. If only yamaha made the rs7000 the size of a qy100....
Are you listening, Yamaha?
