Then we had to spend the night on the beach, everyone was in the water with the shirts off and put them over their mouth.

Our government should have done more to help in my opinion but also I've heard that Greece government returned 2 juggernauts of food and other help material that was coming from Turkey. I'm sure they had their own reasons to do this.
