  • I love this era-- well, actually, even two or three decades earlier. I mean, Harlem during prohibition? I wish I had been there.

The music, the slang, people out just to have a good time. Being well dressed was 'cool'. I mean, no one wears suits for their own pleasure, y'know? Usually only for work and such. And what happened to zoot suits?!? Swing dancing?! Dancing that actually took talent! The cars-- oh man-- I'm definitely an old-timers fan, ahahaha.

    I plan on investing an a time-machine :P.

  • Hi there, i'm a lot younger (22) but i'm really trying to get into older jazz and swing music, what i've heard so far has been fantastic (i was born in the wrong decade!) just wondering if you could recommend some faster swing tunes for me or bands that were big back then, i'd really appreciate it!

    cheers

  • ¡Música maravillosa que nunca muere!

    Gracias por el vídeo.

  • This kind of music is good for you.... We play big band music all the time. I play trombone and have a lot of fun playing.. If more people would listen to this kind of music there would not be so many problems in the world.

  • too bad this isn't everyday music anymore. wouldbe been so much better going out hearing this down at the bar.

  • @goreziad For me it is ) I listen to 89.1 from Menlo Park, CaliforniA

  • @goreziad i am glad that this is not everyday music, so it kinda stays special and only special people who have a special taste of music will listen to this :D

  • All my friends think Im psycho for some reason for liking this kind of music but its so unique and relaxing I cant get enough!

  • i love psychos, who want's to be normal anyways... ;)

  • @guiltyspark55 I get the same response from my friends! They just don't know good music.

  • @fairy919 Be assured you are the one with good taste. Just pity the fool who doesn't know what music should sound like. Perhaps some day they will realize what great music is. Even if they don't, be proud of yourself and don't let anyone put you down.

  • @guiltyspark55

Man why is it that you find people more in common online...:( not in person.

  • @guiltyspark55 That is swing and classic, baby!! I am 29 and love this music style like, forever!

  • Hey!, this is Great! Keep em comin!!

  • I am a young dude, but can dig the sound. That was good music for that era and you know what, it still is!

    e.z.

  • Wonderful vid... Nice photos and great versions of Tuxedo Junction - can anyone advise who interpreted the vocal one ?

  • The vocal version of Tuxedo Junction is by The Manhattan Transfer, one of the finest vocal groups around.

    George Spink

  • Will the Erskine Hawkins version be aired here, written by him I believe.

    G

  • The second song playing has a great mastered sound!! I'm a young person but still i find swing music really beautiful!

    lmao

  • Don't worry crofud. Pyvis is just a little pile of poo who tries to provocate you.

Nice song by the way. I still have it on a record

  • I don't agree with your comment but i like your attitude XD (Y)

  • Me too! I looooove hard rock, but swing is just so easy to listen to. :D

  • i love the swing era.

the hairdo's the clothes, the songs, the dances, the everything.

  • This really rocks my socks!

  • UAU BEATIFULL music music music thanks

  • this music is so cool..for some reason it always calms me down...and makes me think...i dont know why though

  • I don't see how anyone can prove that one style of music is better than the other. I mean there can just be untalented pieces of crap out there, but other than that it's a pointless arguement. I listen to hardcore/metalcore/deathcore, and love this stuff. It doesn't matter.

  • I listen to both punk-rock and swing. :O Now what?

  • I'd say "idkfawin32" could use a gallon of dish liquid down his throat. Maybe that would clean out his/her mouth. Totally classless!!!!

  • I'd say. You should stop acting like your better than me just because you like music that doesnt use drums. I don't need class because im not the one bieng schooled in these arguments.

  • I'm acting like I'm better than you? Who's acting? You make some very ridiculous assumptions about someone you don't even know. Speaking of being "schooled", obviously you didn't pay much attention to spelling and grammar when you were in school. Too bad so sad!

  • I run a blog online. My spelling and grammar are fine. I was just having a fun argument here against "classy" people.

  • I'm also 18 and I love swing. You don't know what you're talking about

  • I do know what im fucking talking about? I had to hear this fuckin shitty music the entire time I was growing up. Fuck this music, what does Peas and Cornbread mean and what the fuck does Milkman keep those bottles quiet mean? Fucking nothing, just the Pop music of early 1900s. Its bullshit music and it pisses me off. It means nothing and in no way did anything for music.

  • Im 18 and I love this era. When men were actually gentlemen, probobly why you hated it so much. you would have failed miserably. You dont understand the expressions or the sentimental value of their words because you weren't there and you're not willing to look into it. Why dont you stop being an ignorant prick and recognize what the pioneers of music created so you can have the music you listen to today.

  • Nah fuck them. And fuck that. Classical music brought the music I listen to today along with Blues and Funk. Swing wasnt the only type of music back then. They are not the pioneers. If you think that, then you should go read a book.

  • look, if you don't like this music, thats fine, but please dont go mouthing off at it. think what kind of responses your going to get. saying 1900 music sucks ON a video about 1900 music. not smart dude. keep it to yourself.

  • Nah, I like to say it so I get blind biased responses by people that think swing brought all the music we have today.

  • well please don't because there are some people who think otherwise. idkfawin32 if you don't like swing , don't go blabing it to us. thank you and goodbye.

  • Thanks but no thanks. I like pissing people off.

  • well then, i think you'll find that your future online interactions won't go to nicely, and no one will care about your comments anymore. piss some nazi's off on a hiel hitler video, that's more intense than swing.

  • Well, I've been online for about 15 years and im 18. I dont like to piss EVERYBODY OFF. But I like the occasional argument. I run a website and I make money online. I design video games and make music. I also do graphic design. My online world is going great. you don't have to make false predicaments for me.

  • well thanks for letting me know. seriously though, if you like the occasional argument, try a tribute to hitler then post a comment saying " hitler was a bad man and so were the nazi's'. I did that once and seriously NOBODY agreed . You want an argument? that's definitely something worth doing...

  • Ah cmon he was just delusional. He just wanted a pure race. Which would "evetually" cause peace on earth. But he took the wrong approach.

Im more of a music argument starter. Swing is only one of my targets. I have other targets like New Hip Hop, Indie Music, EMo Punk, Pop Punk, Punk in general, everything related to punk because punk sucks, and I dont like panic at the disco. lol

  • i have to disagree, as far as swing goes. it does take a lot of talent... indie music and punk on the other hand is just plain bad. as for adolf, he believed it was okay to kill innocent families. the argue over him ends there.

  • nah, I could a full fledged swing song in a day. Considering theres arent any drums whatsoever. The only swing I ever consider good is frank Sinatra.

  • if anyone could make a full fledged swing song in a day, we'd all be rich my friend. and swing does use drums, just not ALWAYS. swing does take talent ask any musician, and they will tell you the same thing.

  • I know it does chill.

  • i am don't worry. and if you knew that ,why say swing doesnt require talent in the first place?

  • u suck, most music i love, i dont crit any music unless i can do better,

    swing is beast,

  • you obviously don't know shit about music. Classical music rocks, Modern music rocks and therefore Swing music rocks.

  • Of course!!! They are the best musics in my opinon!!! I really love swing, bug bands, jazz and classic musics!

  • I don't give a shit about punk-rock but don't talk about swing if you don't even know it.

  • You think Swing music is gay? Well that explains why you are clearly watching a video called SWING ERA. If you dislike swing music, don't come to watch a video like this, and comment rudely to others.

  • Hmm, I recall you saying that Swing music is gay and the "gray area between classical and moderen". If you really think that, then why would you even think that there is good swing music on here? You can't call the songs in this video crappy if you don't even appreciate swing music and can't make up if you think it's gay or if there are some good swing songs.

  • Hmm, I recall me also saying that I liked Frank Sinatra so stop arguing with me. Good god its been like 5 months since I Originally said that "Swing Sucks" on here. So chill out.

  • hey wat kind kind of video games u make? I doubt you design video games and music, and i'm also pretty sure if you did you don't make money off it. however if you do make music send me a soundtracki would love to here it.

  • How bout the both of you rent a room? :)

  • why? i'm not homosexual and i have a girlfriend. this is anargument/debate, renting a room has nothing to do with it

  • I wish I lived during the roaring 20's!!

  • LOVE THAT!!!!!

  • u have no taste and no class..

  • Nope I'm NOT 53 or no where near it I'm 30ys of age BUT I always have and still love the swing era and NO ITS not because your 18 you don't LIKE THIS kind of music its because you are closed minded with no taste and class.

  • I'm 25 and I think it's pretty sweet. Swing dancing is even better.

  • Im 18 and I think its pretty sweet to NOT listen to this crap music.

  • Im so jealous. I wish I had lived in the 40's. It seemed like such an awesome time.

  • There are events all around that theme around 1920's-1950's

Roaring 20's, swing era, lindy hop era, rock 'n' roll era. im 15 and i go to all of these events. I swing dance and lindy hop. Its great fun, should start it i rekon, most fun ive ever had.

  • so this piece that we're listening to is a swing right? i'm kinda confused now lol. do you know who composed this?

  • Hi,

Generally speaking, membres of the Erskine Hawkins Orchestra can be credited with writing the piece, although it is generally consered to be a "Head Arrangement," with bits and pieces contributed by various performers in the band.

This arrangement is the one made famous by the Glenn Miller Orchestra in 1940 and thereafter, although this performance is from the Glenn Miller Story soundtrack in the 1950s.

    I hope this helps.

    Bill

  • Excellent!

  • Thanks for a great jive down memory lane. Artie Shaw Orch is coming to my home town this month. Now where are my dancin' shoes?

  • If it wasn't for this Big Band music, there would probably be no rock n roll.

  • Rock n roll is more like Country Western and Blues kicked with a Swing up beat. A fantasic hybred of the three. Swing and Blues alone is too complicated for the simpler early progressions of Rock. That is where Country comes in to play. Regardless it is all good music.

  • i Love this song! it makes me feel happy.

  • Just great - beats today's guitar players by a ciuntry mile

  • I enjoyed this thank you. I am listening to this a work. My coworker loves it too.

  • Great job, Annanoli! This was the first "video" I made. Actually, it's a slide show. Sometime this summer, I hope to identify all of those featured in my slide show. I appreciate your interest.
