Tom Welling chose not to wear the suit because he was afraid he would inherent the superman curse. The shots of him in the "suit" are shot of him either face up or far away because the suit is all CGI in this. If you want to know what the "superman curse" is, look it up.
The suit shots had nothing to do with Tom Welling's physique. It was a compromise, of sorts. The original vision that Millar and Gough had of the show was that it was about Clark, not Superman. "No flights, no tights" was their mantra. But they had planned for the show to run for only five years, not ten. Not showing Tom full-on in costume was sort of a nod by the producers to the show's creators. It struck a balance between what the fans wanted and what the original concept was.

@FrkJonas That wasn't the point of the show. The story was only to get him to the point of becoming Superman, not of Clark doing things as Superman. It was a story about how growing up the way he did, caused him Superman to have the ideals and values that he does.
Before 1986, Superman used to push planets around a lot dating back to the 50's. This was no different. From 86 on, he would need help from other sources to do that.

I've got to admit while watching this clip here, seeing Clark Kent in the suit flying against the plane, then flying hivh above the crowd who I'm sure they're facing certain doom, I'm curious how they bring everything together, because it's amazing to think when it's over they call this all within a day's work on the series Smallville! I've only watched up to season 9, but I see I've got stuff to look forward to in season 10 when it comes out on dvd!

I think this scene was so Great!..Lois, ace reporter for the Daily Planet on Air Force One with the president during earth's greatest crisis, the moment when the world is in most need of a savior.Great epic scenes.The best was when Lois finally sees her hero and the love of her life fulfilling his destiny by wearing the suit and showing himself to the world as a symbol of hope. The moment and musical score when they touch at the window was brilliant and so touching. 10 Yrs was an amazing journey

man this show was so full of potential wasted on teen drama...is he gonna kiss lana? oh is lex good or not? who cares!?! and talk about messing things up by bringing caracters superman/clark kents is supposed to meet in his adult life in the show, just made things even weirder...granted there were a few good story arcs but the "kids-get-infected-by-kryptonite-so-i-get-superpowers" angle was getting old fast, not to mention the videoclip part of every episodes with sucky music...
I think the biggest problem isn't the bad cgi or physics in space but the fact the show established and developed the fact that Clark would come out of the shadows into the light and be a hero for the people...
Well he's still a Blur to the people (and a cgi blur to us, the viewers). Heck, they might think it was Kara who saved them. They could SEE HER CLEARLY but not Clark.
people say the reason we haven't had the pleasure of seeing him in the full suit because a possible chance of a smallville movie is in the making so it make sense to see cgi effects now and have the full view suit in the near future or maybe it's the 2012 man of steel movie so no reason to show Tom wearing the suit since he won't be Superman come 2012 you decide.
The reason we didn't get to see Tom in the suit was because he didn't want to wear it. He didn't want to be labelled as Superman which was already too late.
There isn't going to be a Smallville spin-off or a tv-movie because Smallville itself isn't good enough to deserve one. Ten years is a long time for a show and at least three seasons too long for this show (4, 7 & 10 being pointless).
Am I the only person who thinks that it wasn't entirely unreasonable for the President and his staff to dislike Lois' plan to sit back and wait for a local vigilante with unknown superpowers to push away a giant planet about to crash into the Earth, when flying was NOT something anyone had ever seen him do?
Because when you put it like that (i.e. accurately), their plan sounds ridiculous.
I will say that I know J'onn J'onnz COULDN'T do it, because Apokolips is fiery. And he can't handle that.

Action packed, every episode was connected to the main story, Louis Lane was amazing, Clark, Oliver etc. The first Lana based seasons were the shitty one, I almost quit watching a few times because of that bitch. The first seasons were carried entirely by Clark and Lex. Then more good actors came and the story just got better.

@clerickolter Obvious you never read any Silver Age/Pre-crisis superman comics. In those he can easily move planets. Heck some of pre-crisis superman feats were so ludicrous. Pulling a chain of planets, juggling planets, sneezing galaxies away punches that could shatter planets; Fly faster then light; no magic vulnerabilities, and others. When I watched this episode, there were a few things that bothered me quite a bit. At first, that Omega-thing was lame. Then Clark meets his greatest challange, and kills it by just flying through it? That, and that he moves a big planet like it was a car, was just anti-climax for me. It felt very rushed, like the story was unfinished. BUT! The last 30 seconds, with the nostalgia-tone over it, did it for me. That was an unbelievably great ending to this great series.
I thought the ending was good especially part 1, but the part 2 could have been written a little better. At the end they bring Jimmy's little brother (which looks like the same Jimmy that died in season 8, I believe) and if that was Jimmy's younger brother was he not like 8 years old. So if that was the case than about a decade went pass and Clark and Lois should have already been married by than. Anyway, it would be nice if they did a spin off. I think the cast was great!
im sorry but i dislike this since they could have had superman fly into Apokolips to fight off darkseid in a epic fight. This is corny and cheap they could have done better in my opinion

The reason we didn't get to see Tom in the suit was because he didn't want to wear it. He didn't want to be labelled as Superman which was already too late.
There isn't going to be a Smallville spin-off or a tv-movie because Smallville itself isn't good enough to deserve one. Ten years is a long time for a show and at least three seasons too long for this show (4, 7 & 10 being pointless).

Am I the only person who thinks that it wasn't entirely unreasonable for the President and his staff to dislike Lois' plan to sit back and wait for a local vigilante with unknown superpowers to push away a giant planet about to crash into the Earth, when flying was NOT something anyone had ever seen him do?
Because when you put it like that (i.e. accurately), their plan sounds ridiculous.
I will say that I know J'onn J'onnz COULDN'T do it, because Apokolips is fiery. And he can't handle that.

Action packed, every episode was connected to the main story, Louis Lane was amazing, Clark, Oliver etc. The first Lana based seasons were the shitty one, I almost quit watching a few times because of that bitch. The first seasons were carried entirely by Clark and Lex. Then more good actors came and the story just got better.

@clerickolter Obvious you never read any Silver Age/Pre-crisis superman comics. In those he can easily move planets. Heck some of pre-crisis superman feats were so ludicrous. Pulling a chain of planets, juggling planets, sneezing galaxies away punches that could shatter planets; Fly faster then light; no magic vulnerabilities, and others. @Iamjohntheone you don't need air currents for hair to "flow", it's simply when you move the hair closest to your skull experiences a more sudden acceleration, since he flies around quite a lot his hair would simply show signs of random movement depends on location/speed/previous location of his skull and hair.

When I watched this episode, there were a few things that bothered me quite a bit. At first, that Omega-thing was lame. Then Clark meets his greatest challange, and kills it by just flying through it? That, and that he moves a big planet like it was a car, was just anti-climax for me. It felt very rushed, like the story was unfinished. BUT! The last 30 seconds, with the nostalgia-tone over it, did it for me. That was an unbelievably great ending to this great series.

I thought the ending was good especially part 1, but the part 2 could have been written a little better. At the end they bring Jimmy's little brother (which looks like the same Jimmy that died in season 8, I believe) and if that was Jimmy's younger brother was he not like 8 years old. So if that was the case than about a decade went pass and Clark and Lois should have already been married by than. Anyway, it would be nice if they did a spin off. I think the cast was great!
