  • I went and saw him in St.Catharines a few years ago and was disappointed cause we was apparently drunk. Wasn't a very good show and someone else was there that had seen him before and said he was usually much better (she was disappointed too). So if he comes back perhaps I'll try again.

  • @72chargerse72 you were drunk or tom was drunk?

  • Has Tom Connors, this excellent balladeer, been awarded The Order of Canada? His whole life he has dedicated to Canada, through music; should have brought him a nomination, at least. If not, is the government going to give it to him posthumously?! Mr. Harper, please give recognition to this noble soul, please. “Stompin’ Tom” has relayed Canadian emotions and feelings throughout the known world, by way of his musical talents and great songs. Peace.

  • canuckmaleman, wow, do you bring back some old memories. There were 3 of us who came to Lake Nippising from the U.S. to do some fishing (1975), but we also had a chance to see Stompin' Tom in Hamilton. What a show, what a Canadian legend. Shortly before my wife's passing in 2003, she and I had a wonderul trip to P.E.I. and Nova Scotia. "O, Canada" you are a beautiful country and wonderful folks. Keep on stompin', Tom in C-A-N-A-D-A where you "get to see it all."

  • Lol, He jumps hiiigh.

  • this makes me happy to be a canaden.

  • this song cheers me up, you rock tom connors!!!!!!

  • I didn't appreciate Stompin' Tom until I went to college. Although.. it helps that that was in Sudbury. STC rocks!

  • A copy of this record (45) is currently on ebay, pretty rare 45!

  • my mom has it..plays it almost every weekend

  • must be near the beginning of the show. the board looks fresh still.

  • This is one of the best trucking songs I've heard. Seems to me that this guy does for lorries what Johnny Cash did for trains.

  • Being a Canadian, I am very familiar with STC....LOVE his stompin'

  • Very Coool Song!!! 5*s Thankyou...Anita.

  • I'm an islander and sum proud of it!

  • im novascotian

  • same here i'm Nova Scotian / for pei

  • antigonish?

  • Right On!

    I'm from Blomidon, near Kentville...

    Now I'm stuck In California!

God I miss home, and this song doesn't help!

  • @nightmathzombieethan what do u mean stuck?

  • Well, not literally "stuck", I just have days where I hate it here....

People are SOOOO rude, and it's just a really trashy culture... No one gives a crap about anything but themselves and no one here really knows what life is REALLY about besides trying to look rich/tough or act like their life is a music video. I know that may not make sense, but it's difficult to explain in few words.

That and the education system sucks, I meet a lot of VERY stupid/uninformed people.

  • Where are ya bud?

  • I meet a lot of people that are so hung up on trying to portray an image, or emulate a stereotype that they can't just be themselves. Most guys are so insecure they need to try and act all bad-ass, everyone's got a pitbull, or a big ass truck/suv that'll never see a dirt road or tow/carry anything.

Everyone walks around with an attitude.

The kindness of strangers/politeness is something I took for granted in NS, here it's a completely foreign concept.

  • California, the land of conspicuous consumption.

  • You'd think I'd LIKE living somewhere where I get to see Hot Rods, Muscle cars, Lamborghini's and Ferrari's on a regular basis!

I'm a car nut, and cars here last a long time and are easy to find parts for (They're big on "car culture" out here) that's one of the FEW things I like about being here....although we have "Smog Laws" so your car has to meet emission standards...and that's a drag, but I still miss The Maritimes!

  • @highvoltagechannel Who cares.

  • my dog was born in pei so is orignal name was spud but we call him bud and budwiser sometimes

  • awsome drinking song tom, its bud the spud smoke some bud

  • fuck idaho

  • Trash mouth.

  • @av8va

  • A true Canadian hero.

  • I saw him at the NCO Club in Goose Bay Labrador when stationed there in the 70's. What a fantastic performer. I'm not from Canada but people like him make anyone feel at home there.

  • The McDonalds Corporation uses only PEI potatoes as they are the only spuds that meet their size qualifications.

  • Haha, did he do the "This is how a Newfie pours a drink," joke there too?

  • If you feel his songs aren't of sufficient "high seriousness", then you don't understand the importance of storytellers. They have the same function as Calypsonians in the Caribbean, or tribal singers in Africa. They tell the stories of the nations they represent, both timely and timeless.

Where else are you going to learn about Newfie Clogeroos, the legends of Codfish Dan, Big Joe Mufferaw, Second Narrows Bridge disaster, Wop May, Martin Hartwell, Wilf Carter.

    Serious enough for ya?

  • your so right

  • @CanadianGuy25

Don't forget ;bout ole Muk Tuk Annie! ;)

  • nikaz , you got a lot of growing up to do kid.

  • been telling my friends in the states about Stompin Tom and now they understand a bit better what the north is about, as stompin got his start at the Good ole maple leaf hotel, now torn down

  • he's totally right...best damn potatoes anywhere!!

  • fabulous!!!!

  • Happy Canada day

  • man oh man i love being canadian

  • STOMPIN TOM IS THE MAN cant wait to see him at hamilton place on august 29

  • I had a great journey on a VIA rail train back in '90, in the bar car got talking to a bloke with a guitar and he played this song. It's been stuck in my head since then, popping up every now and then.

This chap kindly shared a couple of joints with me at a water stop in Kamloops in the middle of the night. Both got off in Calgary, me to stay with my sister, him to see his girlfriend in Red Deer.

    God i miss Canada.

  • greatest Canadian entertainer of all time... then Rush

  • Never mind Bruce Cockburn, Neil Young, Joni Mitchell... much more serious musicians IMHO. STC and Rush in the same sentence is like Sharon, Lois and Bram and Iron Maiden. Apples and Oranges.

  • I just saw a guy at the supermarket with a shopping basket full of potatoes, and thought of this song!

  • i am a rock fan... but i am a 3 time veteran of stompin tom concerts...best show out there

  • hahaha love this man.

  • No, you have to be CANADIAN!

  • I'm Canadian, and I think you have to be out of your mind on some kind of controlled substance to take Tom's music seriously. It's good for a chuckle at best.

  • well, he has written some serious stuff

like - (Don Valley Jail) and (I Am The Wind)

but all we ever hear is the silly stuff

  • I'd love to hear some serious material. Songs about potatoes and bad rhyme schemes where he could be singing about people dealing with serious issues (Inco / Stinko) do nothing for his image in my mind.

  • Well, (Sable Island) is pretty cool-

    and (Lukes Guitar)

Some of his silly songs remind me

    of Roger Miller.....

I take it you dont like

    Roger Miller either......

    Stinko means be drunk.

  • This is a true patriot

  • I like my spuds mashed! They're the best dog-gone potatoes that's ever been growed!

One of the greatest Canadian entertainers of all time.

  • No, tied.

  • way better then acdc

  • you cant compare the two...

  • With another big loada padatoes!!!!

    Sing it again, Stompin' Tom!

    What a perfect Canadian song!!!!!

    LOVE it!

  • Great, Eh?

    Haha.

    (I mean it, he's awesome)

  • Can't get much more Candian. :D

  • Whoops, *Canadian* haha.

  • Used to go up to Sudbury to the old Nickle Range Hotel just to see Tom. Lot of good memories.

  • Stompin Tom played at my grandparents house back when he hitchiked across canada .....he was amazing .....STOMPIN TOM IS A TRUE CANADIAN!!

  • They are always harping at us to watch more canadian content. Play Stompin Tom and show him the respect and attention he deserves as a true Canadian icon and maybe we would watch Canadian content because we want to instead of being forced to. We never see him on national tv and that will go down as a huge mistake. He is the epitomy of Canada and should be shown his due.

  • tom is god

  • rumor is this song was written at a kitchen table in Murray River PEI by Tom himself..I would like to talk to Tom myself because an old friend of mine...he would be 70-75 now said he picked Tom up hitch hiking down in South West Nova Scotia!

  • bless this humble man

  • / i. .love. .this. .and. .hockey. .night \

  • yay thats me

  • His Guitarist Mr Bill Lewis has recently passed on. Tom still lives in Georgetown, Ontario. A workmate of mine knows exactly where...should I stop by with a 6 pack someday????

  • I wish Tom was a little more visible on tv. Later we'll be so sorry to see him pass on...

I'd love to see him do a nice new years eve night some time. A bit of joking, singing, reflecting on things, pick some appropriate tunes. Have some beers and snacks, sit back, take it all in.

We should lobby for this! New years eve's have been so bland and meaningless the last number of years. Tom can change this!

    Tom's new years eve bash!

  • You can thank the CBC for that...they say Tom's music doesn't "fit" with their programming style.

  • i love Stompin Tom's music. i have been raised on it. The first song I ever remember hearing is Bud The Spud! wonderful song!!!

  • 2:00 lol the kid

  • look at all the kids they all no the words lol

  • i love how he sings all about the maritimes

    bud the spud

    lukes guitar

    and many more

  • My childnood!

  • From PEI, Bud the Spud - makes me happy

  • woot Hamilton!!!

  • Canadian love Canadians no matter where in Canada you are. Dignity, respect, possibly the most civilized nation in the world!

  • Thank you! Ontario pride!

  • He's incredible!!!!

  • true canadian

  • I love how so much of Connors's music celebrates working people. For that reason, I've embedded this video at my blog for Labour Day.

  • THE OTHER NATIONAL ANTHEM!!!!

    YAY!

  • and another big load of Badadoes!

  • rippin the tar off the 401

  • Take er' away bye's!!

  • A Canadian Treasure and true musician

  • If anyone deserves respect it's Dr. Stompin Tom Connors...a Canadian treasure!!

  • amazing...go Tom! xox

  • Order of Canada, no less. treat this guy with respect.
