I'll agree with everything that's been said so far in that Karen certainly downplayed Halsey and completely turned her away from that brilliant and yet caring scientist in Onyx (kudos to Eric Nylund for writing one of my favorite novels to this date) to some stuck up, rude, unintelligent (from what i could tell), emotionally unstable bitch. However, there were still a few decent aspects to the book.

How does he get to spend the entire book attacking Dr Halsey for creating the tech, doing it safer and putting in place safegaurds which would protect the soldiers; safegaurds he, ambrose and ackerson willfully disregarded as they began mass producing suicide soldiers. Give me a break Traviss. If the core fan base abandons halo after this failure of a novel, I hope everyone reading this will acknowledge that it was Glasslands that ruined it all.

throughout the entire book while she just took it. Halsey's character was weak, impatient and unresourceful at best. When you come onto an existing project or theme you should at least respect the work of the authors who've been involved long before you decided to pen this monstrocity. This is a slap in the face to everyone who read the preceding novels. I mean really. Somebody already mentioned it above but mendez was TRAINING disposable heroes!

Better yet i'd just like to strike the entire section of book relevent to Halsey from the official canon. The elites could have been less subdued but I can live with that much. I can understand people appreciating more character depth and how that makes them appear more "human". More human characters, I can deal with; a spartan assaulting Halsey while her two's stand around watching mendez coddle her was something I could not.

A lot of people are bitter about this book, include me in that category. My hatred for this book stems from the treatment of the Halsey character by the author. This author did much to undermine the spartans and character assassinate Dr Halsey. At multiple times I had to stop reading it out of frustration. It was as if the author had a personal vendetta against the character.

@Constantdoodle Common ancestry I guess. Or the Forrunners could have made the ring so humans could activate it too. Before they set off the ring the Forrunners went to every living planet and gathered enough of the inhabitants to sustain a population. Then after Halo went off, all the species they took were sent back to their home planets. So I guess before the forrunners set off the ring killing themselves they picked a random species(humans) that could also activate the ring just in case.

From what Karen said, there doesn't seem to be much direction...just a blank canvas to be spontaneous and random?? I hope they don't turn the campaign into something like CoD's - just random explosions and guns everywhere, and no real smooth transitions or, more importantly, meaning between objectives and levels in the game...
