I love the country on the Western NY state/Pennsylvania border. We used to boat on Kinzua, camp on the islands... water ski to the southern end.. Life was good. Now, I'm in my 70's, and these videos make me realize how lucky we all were to grow up, or live, in this unspoiled corner of America!
My Grandfather was an engineer who worked on the bridge in 1900.Snowmobilers crossed it in the winter - I was in a group of them in the early 90's. At the last minute, I held my breath, and hit the throttle!!
Every 3 months I go up there <3 Kinzua Bridge 120 something ft high is very big :) hope they do rebuild it but u know whats GAY, the only thing they have done is put a peice of wood on the end of it
@Lizontt4eva : Keep it polite or please don't comment. GAY is not a term that you should use to denote something negative like that. It's bigoted and ignorant.
This bridge is 330 miles, roundtrip, from my driveway. I've stopped there a dozen or so times. I was awestruck the first time I saw it. Walked over it, walked through the valley under it. I was also awestruck to see it lying in ruins. I've been back a few times since it has fallen. It's sad to see such a beautiful piece of history gone.
The bridge was rotting away before it collapsed the engineers mada a mistake of using the same bolts for the the previous bridge that was standing there before it was built
Yup I walked across this bridge the summer it fell. My pop's engineering firm did the engineering part of the restoration that was being done on the bridge when the storm blew it down.
I've been there plenty of times myself throughout my lifetime during camping trips...even got chances to walk across it and even watched a train go across it...it was such a beautiful site...it is such a shame of what happened to it...
Yeah you can look at these pictures and say that bridge is huge, and its sad to see what happened to it, but you don't really know the destruction and the size of the brige until you see it in person. It is just amazing the destruction, and how it toppled that bridge.
looking at the picture at 2:10 I can see that only a portion of history was demolished

yes i agree with you 100%. If the engineers would have replaced the 1882 anchor bolts, history may have been a little different.
