  • Great skinning. Love the background music. Subbed!

  • hahahaha your terminology names crack me up! Sound like my grandpa trying to make the lesson as "child friendly" as possible

  • tell the geese to shutup

  • this is the most best shown version on how to skin a coon on youtube. thanks so much i skined my first coon yesterday that me and my coon hound ever got and were gonna get many more and lots of skins on the wall thanks to you!!

  • @coonkiller97

Thanks for the gracious comment. Skinning a coon isn't hard if ya know how to do it!!

  • damn those geese are loud

  • After you finish fleshing it could you just put it over a fire and let it dry that way?

  • @thebirdmaner

That probably isn't a good idea!!

  • that tail puller tip is awesome! thanks!

  • @claytonhaske

    Thanks and you're welcome!

  • so am i suppose to hang it up outside for a couple o days?

  • @ModernMan316

If you have fleshed and stretched it first.

  • fucking geese

  • have you ever tried just pulling at the head part

  • @loganwilson11

Ears and eye lids don't pull off or out. They need to be cut out.

  • What do i do with the tail after it when you say open it up what do you mean?

  • Comment removed

  • @MrSpamisgood

You have to split the tail and pin it open to dry when you stretch the fur.

  • After I de-bone the tail... What do i do after that? do I put salt in it?/

  • Comment removed

  • Does it smell while you are doing it?

  • Excellent. Nice job.

  • you make it look easy. ive done 2 coon and they each took over an hour, no joke.

  • @TheOutdoorsman07

    Practice makes perfect my friend.

  • whats that noise in the backround

  • Next show us how to pluck a loud ass goose

  • how much would it cost to have a coyote hide tanned ?

  • tweeter and sack... Lovin the technical terms man lol nice vid bro.

  • Really cool technique. Thanks.

  • ur next video shoud be called..."How to kill a loud ass goose with a 12 gauge shotgun."

  • thanks for the vid man. wasnt looking forward to shooting the coons that keep harrassing my dog and kids but now i know how to skin him and have a purpose for shooting them.

  • damn geese

  • when I skin a coon, what do I do after? I mean, do I need to do something to preserve it, or will it last on its own? I'm not sure, I hope that's not too much of a stupid question.

  • @noodleXfish

It needs to be fleshed and dried either on a custom cut board or a wire stretcher designed for coon. The best way is to take it to a taxidermist and have them send it out for a fur on tanning process.

  • @wyttale Awesome, thanks for the reply. :) "fleshing," would that be scraping the skin? and the let it dry? I've never done it before but want to do some coon hunting soon:)

  • @noodleXfish

Yeah, fleshing is scraping off all the fat and meat that was left on the hide after skinning. It will have to be dried or it will ruin fast. There are several good videos on youtube that shows this process.

  • @wyttale Ok, thanks again for the great info. Great video too.

  • @noodleXfish freez it

  • hey nice video ....will you make one of doing the exact same but to a squirrel

  • @TheGtabuzz02

If you are wanting to case skin a squirrel, it is done exactly the same way. You just need to be sure to get ALL the bone out of the tail when you strip it out.

  • two sticks you are a genius

  • @southrnboi69

Thanks man. It was something my dad taught me. A split, push style clothes pin works well too. Or the clip style clothes pin without the the spring does a great job.

  • @wyttale brother i would love to see your video with curing and cleaning the skin, first coon skin of the 2011 season ive already ruined so some help would be nice. prolly best with no geese next time lol

  • @southrnboi69

I don't flesh or cure hides. I just skin them off and take them to the buyer. Most buyers won't pay any more for a stretched hide than a raw hide,

  • should you be worried about not wearing gloves

  • @TONYJORDAN1000 4

Yeah I don't worry about that too much.

  • How would you go about drying a tail, without cutting it? For example, to fit over my trucks antenna? But really make it last?

  • @Brentyn1985

I would imagine you could turn the tail inside out and either salt it heavily or buy a home tanning kit. Never tried either but that's what I would suggest.

  • @wyttale what knife is that?

  • @grimreap93

Buck 110 becore they were made in China.

  • @wyttale nice man keep that forever i got a mossberg that look just like that knife is why i was asking btw nice video

  • I'm guessing the geese get pretty annoying?

  • How much would the fur go for?

  • @ctsportscustoms

A large prime coon fur might get $10 now.

  • also... if you were going to sell the hide.. would you shoot it or hit it with a bat?

  • @TATEORTOT32

Use a choke pole if you can. Smashing the head of any fur bearing animal makes it very hard to skin around the head.

  • What kind of bait do you use? Would something like.. peanut butter, honey, and bread work? like all of it mixed in..

  • @TATEORTOT32

That would work. I've used peanut butter with good success.

  • Couldn't you just flip the tail inside out?

  • @ThePurpleElite

    I guess you could, I just don't.

  • thats awesome very helpful

  • @silentcamo13

    Thanks.

  • nice vid but those fricken animals r annoying as hell lol.

  • oh that coon never mind srry

  • those geese r as bad as guines lol

  • how about for ur next vid you skin those damn birds

  • also, i thought you split the tail of coons to?

  • you need a tail splitter! thanks for the vid

  • there raping geese.jk

  • whatever is making that noise i wouldve killed that years ago

  • @snipercam11 THose are Geese.

  • would i slingshot be enough to take out a coon? its got pretty dang powerful bands, but the biggest i have hunted were squirrels.

  • @thebowlzack

It could possibly kill a small coon if you are able to penetrate into vitals. But I don't think it would work on a larger coon. They are very tough animals. Sometimes surviving a shot to the head with a .22.

  • does it smell bad?

  • @thebowlzack

No, there really isn't any smell. It could get smelly if the coon has been gut shot or if you have picked it up as a road kill.

  • @wyttale do you straight up hunt them or do you use traps like coon cuffs and such to catch them?

  • @thebowlzack

I trap them and shoot them both. However I can get it done.

  • those are some dang annoying geese!

  • this is a good video thanks - i look foward to skinning my first coon, squirrel, possum, duck, turkey and bear.

  • @AHWSR72

    Thanks for watching!!

  • This is a really good video.. Ill try this way on a fox i found last night on the road. =)

  • @hjelme83

    Thanks. Good luck!

  • OH SWEET SWEET!

  • whats that noise in the backround?

  • @quayboy101

    Geese.

  • Good vid, but dont you flesh em?

  • @liftedreds10

No I don't. I just skin them. Our local buyer doesn't pay any more no matter if you flesh or stretch the furs. So he gets them raw.

  • @wyttale alright, I really wana start trappin, ill have to look into it abit more. Who do you sell em to? like taxidermists or what?

  • did you shoot or trap the coon????

  • @lilbig1998

    I shot that one.

  • Very nice video. Can't wait to try out your method. . Jim M

  • Getting your cooter split in two sounds painful...LOL!!!

  • @thetrashyboy

She probably didn't feel it!! LOL!!

  • best skinning tutorial on YT

  • @FatherOfSin

    Thanks.

  • @wyttale it is

  • DAMB GEES SHUT THE DUCK UP

  • can u do a vidoe of how to tan a raccon bc i dont like all that fat on mine bc it makes it smell really bad so if u can do that i would be happy

  • I cut the tail off a raccoon today. It was freash road kill ( i did not kill it myself ).Do i need to do any thing to the inside of the tail after i take out the bone ?? I read that some people were putting salt inside the tail...do i need to to any thing like that ? I just want to wear the tail on my belt.

  • Very Well Done! Thanks for the good info. Geese were a little loud, but if anyone has a problem with it; you get what you pay for folks.... Very helpful, Thank You!

Look forward for more info on skinning, fleshing, and tanning some coons.

  • @pj5730

Thanks for the comments!! The geese are like informers, I always know when something is happening in my yard!! The coon carcass was strange to them and they were being vocal about it!! I don't flesh my furs. They get skinned and taken to the buyers.

  • coons look possesed when skinned

  • where do you keep them?

  • G'day mate, what caliber rifle would you recommend for long range fox shooting with minimal pelt damage?

  • @RabidMrDog

The Ruger 204 is a great cartridge. Also the 223 or the 22-250. All will work fine for long distance fox shooting.

  • HONK HONK HONK HONK HONK HONK HONK HONK!

    Nice video man.

  • so if he is a male you just leave his junk on?

  • @MrCoonhunter503 Coons are one of a few animals that have an actual bone in their penis. When skinning a coon the testicals and this bone will stay with the meat of the coon during skinning. There is no special technique involved to remove them from the fur.

  • I thought there'd be blood, but it's just like you're taking its coat off :-)

Suppose you just hunt coons for the hide, or can you actually eat them?

  • @Linnas79

They are edible but it takes a little cooking skill to prepare them. The meat is really greasy and has a "unique" taste to it. I personally don't eat them.

  • Make those geese to shut up!

  • Make those geese to shut up!

  • ive read watermelon works great does anybody have experience using watermelon as bait

  • man those ducks or goose or so dang loud, but great vid, il lbe trappin coon this season

  • @ImTheInsaneReality

Yeah those were geese. Can't wait myself to get after thosse coons again. Gonna try a new form of predator hunting for them!!

  • its not cruel and if you think is cruel dont watch it. also i find funny how you had a young kid to video tape for you.lol

  • its not cruel and if you think is cruel dont watch it.

  • thats a motherfucking cruel

  • @medusa9009 if u whant to talk cruel this is cruel your dog gettin beat

  • screw you murderer, peta will hunt you to death

  • this is one of the only videos ive seen without a dislike!

  • Excellent! Well done!

  • @cheyenne92646

Thanks for the comment. My dad taught me to do this as a young man. Sticks with ya when you get it right.

  • i think those geese are having some hardcore sex

  • @c0rnmorphs

All the geese are males and they act like watchdogs. They saw the coon hanging there and it was something different in their yard. That's what all the honking was about.

  • Damn birds!

  • it is really easy to under stand now my friend would scew up my pelts

  • Thanks wyttale!I was one of the guys who asked you to show us how to properly skin a coon

nice coon too i am guessing 20 pounder?

got one out our way some people want off their property so i will be looking as soon as i get the spring replaced in my crossman storm .117

the trick for me is to draw em off the salvage yard and into the field

what do you suggest I use as feed?

  • @darvyowolf

Any type of moist dog or catfood works great. Sardines and tuna work good too. I'm going to try a different way to shoot them this fall using a predator call and a mechanical decoy. I will be videoing this too, so look for it this fall.

  • Comment removed

  • @darvyowolf 20 Pounder!?!? thats a kit coon maybe 10 pounds.

  • btw, how long does one have to wait before they skin a coon. Do you skin them within 24 hours of dying, when is it easier to skin them?

Coons disgust me, don't think I'll be looking forward to skinning them...prefer Beaver, Marten, Mink e.t.c.

  • @79Testo

It is alot easier to slin them when they are still warm.

  • @79Testo

Skin them ASAP. They are alot easier to skin when they are warm.

  • Aren't fleas transferable from coon to person while skinning?

is it possible to catch rabies from skinning coon?

  • @79Testo

You can get fleas on ya from petting your dog, right? So that isn't really a concern. As far as rabies, can you remember the last time you saw a truly rabid animal? Thought not. So that isn't really a concern either.

  • @wyttale

That's not a full proof plan for my defense as a beginning trapper. I have suspected that I have trapped a few rabid coon, but I do not have the laboratory knowledge or equipment to conduct a complete investigation. It's always a concern. Btw, why do you wear an earing?

  • @79Testo

I'm not worried about rabies in a coon. The earring was a gift from my now deceased mother. It will never be taken out.

  • @wyttale

    I hear ya. Cheers

  • @79Testo It should be quite obvious if an animal is rabid, especially in the later stages. Besides the classic 'foaming at the mouth' they will be disoriented, unable to walk straight, unusually calm despite your presence, etc. If you are fairly certain of rabies, you have two options: call animal control, your local sheriff or local game warden. They will come pick it up and have it tested. Second option: burn it where it lies.

@wyttale, Great video for sure, learned a lot from it.

  • how much would a coon fure be like in the vid?

  • @ToGood4MLG

    Maybe $5.00.

  • Love your vids man gettin some land soon and a gun but curious how much land yall got?

  • @ToGood4MLG

We have access to over 1000 acres of farm land owned by family friends.

  • Awesome video! Did my first Raccoon today and learned how to do it here on YouTube. Yes I made a few mistakes such as cutting too close to the belly(stinky situation), the head was a bit hard....that 2 stick trick you used is an awesome idea, I will use this idea for next time. As far as "Fleshing", I have seen a few videos here, and didn't have that special tool, so I used a Machete which worked fine but now do I just let it dry? Thanks once again for the video!

  • @beastyfourpointsix

It needs to be stretched either on a wire stretcher that you can buy or on a board stretcher that you can build. I sell my furs raw (unfleshed) because you really don't get any more for them stretched.

  • great vid ... how long does it take the pelt to air dry?

  • @IslandParkFish49221

About 5 days depending on air temp and humitidy.

  • very nice vid man took alot of work hah

  • cool how to!! we do the same. great vid!

    james

  • how should you dry it? should you put salt on it or just let it air dry?

  • @awesomeabsol

The skin needs to be "fleshed" and put on a stretcher of some type. Air drying is all that's necessary.

  • @wyttale thanks a bunch!

  • I used a different way of skinning my first squirrel i shot a couple weeks back. A huge fox squirrel for Christmas!

  • Thank you very much for this video. I have been waiting for a video of this from several people. This is exactly what i wanted to know: How to kin a squirrel/rabbit for putting it on a board and hanging it. Thank you so much

  • That was a textbook skinning job. I have done more of that type of skinning when I was a kid then I care to remember. My Grandfather was a fulltime trapper. And I must say back in the day he made a very good living at it. He would always make me do the muskrats because they were little and he would have like a 75 to100 rats on a days line.......Aaahhh the good old days!!......Oh by the way. That knife. I have had that same Buck knife for 20+ years and it will still hold a razor edge. Thank you!!

  • @seaosrover

Thanks for such a gracious comment. My father taught me how to skin those critters. I too skinned many a possums growing up because they were considered a low dollar fur so my dad thought if I screwed them up we weren't out much.

  • @seaosrover it's stupid that they make buck 110s in china now

  • Sweet, nice vid !

  • @bowhunterjohn63

    Thanks Uncle Bucky!!

  • Great video! Thanks for sharing keep them coming sir.

  • Nice video sir. I killed a coon a few days ago down here in florida. I skinned it just like that, except the last inch of the bone ripped off and is stuck in the tail. The fur is fine now after it's been sitting out, but will that little peice of bone cause a problem?

  • @floridabassmasters2

It could potentially rot the end of the tail.

  • Great job

  • interesting. got any good coon recipes?

  • @fracwilt

Not a big fan of coon meat.

  • @fracwilt some guys here in Florida told me to peel a sweet potato and sew it up in the rib cage the sweet potato will make the meat sweeter

right now i have 20 squirrel quarters soaking in Italian dressing (actually they are frozen in Italian dressing)

going to get some bacon and wrap them up and place them over the coals

  • thats a good job. is it very hard to do?

  • @4986hunterofsouth

Not hard, just need to practice doing it.

  • @wyttale you from USA right? cuz i can hear robins. and the kind we have here u dont have there and they doing same singing. interesting :O, nice vid bdw wish we had coons here

  • the two sticks pulling the tail genius boss thanks for posting

  • SA-WEET! Sounds like you have geese that aren't too happy. They smell blood? Wanna trade for some smoked salmon? I have about 50 pounds vacuum sealed in my freezer.

This vid makes me want to go and kill a bunch of coons!

  • @IKiIIAnimals

My geese are my watch dogs. They let know anytime something is amiss in my yard.
