it is the promise of the Holy Spirit that this Child born unto our distant forebears should also be our wonderful counsellor.
this is my testimony and experience as this Counsellor has sat with me in the horrors of the night and in the night of despair, and delivered me from both,
So i am particularly fond of this number, also as a musician who has performed this work.

I was told that Handel compossed his Messiah in just over three weeks and that Handel himself stated that he seemed, at times, to be in a state of extacy during this composition.
@ralahinn1 wow man. Seriously? This song is about the pure joy we as Christians get to feel about the birth of the most compassionate, loving, wonderful human to ever walk the face of this planet. And you are spreading hate for some of his children. Love thy neighbor. Thy poor, Muslim, liberal, conservative, black, female, gay neighbors. All of your neighbors. But if you want to hate, please don't put it out in public. It makes Christians look like hypocrites.
this is real heaven real music powerful anointing amazing composer there is no one like him he is a very very gifted man .generations from generations will always bless from this amazing music.and give glory to god for giving this talent to Handel Messiah he used well.
I once heard that handel was dancing to this or was it Halleilugh? not sure but I can see where why and understand in what Handel was doing. Oh just to sing these lines and to sing like this to our Savoir would just make my day:) I cry when ever I sing to this! for we know that one day God will come and what a beautiful day that will be:) T.A.H. April 6,2011 was when daddy died and he was a pastor! I know I will see him again! :)
"Händel knows better than any of us what will make an effect; when he chooses he strikes like a thunderbolt; even if he is often prosy, after the manner of his time, there is always something in his music." - W. A. Mozart
Hi @Kass620, I agree with you, for me it's a great piece of music with great sentiments, but maybe there are better versions? If someone preferred another version, they might put 'dislike' against this one. I got a copy of the manuscript when I was eighteen and sung it for a year. I think people might have marked me down too!
@helmuthoorn I am an atheist and I gave this a thumbs up. Few compositions have the aesthetic perfection of Messiah. It's sublime and Handel was a genius. I also believe the most beautiful masterpiece of superior craftsmanship in the history of art is La Pietá, by Michelangelo.
It's exciting to think what those masters would have created if the Church hadn't been the one to fund them, and instead focused their mastery on themes with real significance, like most of them wanted.
@DickCArbiter um, no, I have goosebumps because I can appreciate a beautiful piece of music by a gifted composer, sung by a talented chorus. I also appreciate Christopher Hitchens, Richard Dawkins and Bill Maher.
@cvalley2 Most of the great composers like Handel and Beethoven and many others, give all due credit of their masterpieces to God Almighty. Their genius was a gift from God.
@estaeheli I'm not sure what you were hoping to accomplish with your response to a comment from a year ago, but I can tell you I've been breathing all of my years without any gods. Or is God some kind of oxygen mask or something?
@paxetlux1 I have a boxed set of Messiah which I bought in the '70s.It's Sir Malcolm Sargent, Huddersfield Choral Society, and Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra. It's available on Amazon as a CD. It's a LARGE setting, which, in truth, I prefer. I'm convinced that if Handel had access to a large orchestra and chorus that he'd have used them for this piece.

@rioamigo. That is absolutely fascinating & i have never heard that before. I do know that Beethoven regarded Handel as "The master of us all", which is a tremendous accolade coming from such a man as he.
Haha, He meant that if you pulled the third manuscript on that shelf, a secret doorway would open. This of course would lead to a heap of Masonic/Illuminati clues and so on hidden in what we common idiotic folk understand to be "Christianity" which would disprove the well-held understanding of our collective past.
