@1997fourtrax I didn't rejet at first, but I finally did a year or two after (a while after this video) and it made a huge difference! You won't get anything but sound unless you rejet. I got my jets from JetsRUs.com, and highly recommend them because they sell real Keihin replacement jets at great prices. I had first looked for a DynoJet kit, but found that they didn't make them for the older TRX300s, as well as that they don't run the same size as real Keihin jets and cost more.
@matthewmarrs123 You need to find the hole in the tire and put an actual plug in it. That will seal the leak way better than Fix-A-Flat will. Fix-A-Flat is intended to be a temporary fix for an emergency situation, not a long term solution. What's wrong with your throttle?
@NFSGamerUSA the fix a flat actually fixed it pretty good i don't think it was a hole or anything i think the people that put it on didn't use soap around the beads to seal them and the throttle i need the whole cable instead because the plastic part that splits into 2 cables had buckled and broke on me so yeah it really sucks.
@NFSGamerUSA now i need to get the pull starter the electric start is being gay lol so imma buy the electric start and then buy the cable later. i have a couple videos of it running.
@matthewmarrs123 Speaking of which, the battery box under the seat busted after I went over a small jump (that I had made dozens of times before) a year or two ago, so I've just been kickstarting it ever since. Haha! I've got some fiberglass to repair it, but I've never gotten around to pulling off the rear fender (which the box is molded into) and fixing it.
I saw the videos of it running, I'll keep an eye out for some videos of it in action. I hope you work everything out, soon!
@NFSGamerUSA that was just a hard time running video i should of set the camera down and crawled the hill rolling over the camera to see a good video maybe tomorrow if i do not have to work i will get another video of doing that.
@NFSGamerUSA i know and i am in need of a car though really bad because i am workin on gettin my licence soon and the four wheeler might have to go i hope it don't
@NFSGamerUSA me either i hope it don't go because it really is a nice four wheeler and once i fix it up and get it going right it will be worth more. ttyl.
@PS3skeetery Like I've told others, I have no plans on ever selling my FourTrax. It has way too much sentimental value! Thanks for the interest, though, and ride on! ;)
@skippers96 I only have one differential since my FourTrax is 2WD, and a 4WD model has two (not four). I don't know what the recommended oil change interval for the differentials are off the top of my head, but it's in the owner's manual. Gear oil usually doesn't need to be changed that often. I'd say once every couple of years would be more than adequate, almost pampering.
my buddies got one of these they sure arent fast but damn theyll pull anything and the 4x4 ones are tanks plus they last FOREVER his is an 88 like yours the thing is beat 23 years of abuse before were finally putting rings in it and it ran fine still just burnt some oil. to bad hondas new quads arent as reliable.
@RonniesGarage The 1988 models actually have a more aggressive cam profile than the following years and can run pretty sweet in stock form. I know mine pulls pretty nicely up top, at least for a twenty-year-old utility ATV! They damn sure last forever, no kidding! I'm pretty surprised mine doesn't burn oil, as I've never replaced the rings. The '88 4x4s are pretty unique; tell your friend to take care of it!
Why do you say newer Hondas aren't as reliable? They seem pretty spotless to me.
I have a 97 model with zillas in back and a snorkle and it never ceases to make me trip balls at what it will go through!! Sweet vid, and i would be pissed off soooooooo bad if my mudlites got ruined!
@Fallout3ispwn Nice! Zillas are what I eventually plan to get for the rear. They seem to be the best lightweight/all-around mud tire these days. I guess I was a bit upset, but it's probably been a couple of years since that Mud Lite got screwed up, now.
@NFSGamerUSA They are the best all around tire by far that i have ever used, they are pretty reasonably priced too! I have not really noticed any power loss in it either, and you are right, they are extremely light! I'll see if i can get some vids sometime of my honda. Btw, did you make those footrests? Or did u buy it like that because i am diggin em!
@nachoiturrieta Ummm...this model of the TRX300 was designed around 1986 or 1987, what do you expect? Regardless, you're a newb if you think modern independent suspension systems would perform a whole lot differently. ATVs are not rock crawlers and therefore do not "flex" like rock crawlers.
im thinking of takin my air box lid off my 89 300 fourtrax just was woundering if it would hurt the bike at all engine wise? to be specific would it lean the bike out to much?
@passaround2 It would lean it out a little. I actually ran mine without the lid for a while, but it's not worth it having to avoid water because your airbox lid is off. There's really nothing worthwhile to be gained, even if you rejetted (which would only be a size or two up).
i have a honda 300 ex 2002 atv with a p&f power core racing pipe which i meant to be extra loud and it goes through anything and evrything nature can throw at it i mean u name ive been through, over it, under it and i havent got stuck yet
i have the same quad. im thinking about taking all the plastic off and repainted the frame and racks jet balck and painting the plastics all black as well. i think it would look classy and make it worth a lot more if i ever decide to sell it.
@sasquatch331 Repainting the frame would look great, but I wouldn't touch the plastics. The paint will just tend to crack and chip since the plastics are inevitably flexible.
@TheCOTTY101 Surprisingly enough it still had the stock front tires when I got it back in 2003, but they were a bit rotted and had to be replaced. The stock rear tires had been replaced long before I got it, and even the tires on the rear when I got it were bald.
@NFSGamerUSA listen hear bud im the one with the 1986 honda 250 bigred and i bet i could wax your ass on my machien and dont do dumb tricks i can do them all on three wheels.
@454FILMS ROFL, I've had my FourTrax 300 for seven years; it's an extension of my body. Once again, why you're trying to act like a twenty-five-year-old utility ATV is hot stuff is beyond me. Grow up.
@454FILMS dude id like to see you two in a hill climbing competion, i bet the 300 would kill you, threewheelers are my prefered machine also but i know they cant go the places a fourwheeler can, so just shut your cocky mouth
dude I have pretty much the same quad and when im in gear and I bounce up and down there is a clanking sound... only when im in gear tho not in neutral. Is this a problem?
@laxxmann4610 That's not normal, though I have absolutely no clue what it could be without further detail. If you could get a video of it I'm sure someone could help you get to the bottom of it.
@454FILMS Sorry, I don't stunt; this isn't a sport quad. A 500lb (at least) utility quad making possibly 20hp isn't fast at all. Considering what pigs utility quads are these days, I'm not surprised you could beat an 500cc Arctic Cat (not that they're considered remotely sporty for utility quads, anyway). A 40hp, 350lb sport quad is fast. We're talking twenty-five pounds per horsepower versus just under nine pounds per horsepower; that's a HUGE difference.
@laxxmann4610 Rejetted with the exhaust, probably a horsepower or two. It's not like I've dynoed it , so there's no real way to tell. After rejetting, it without a doubt pulls harder in the mid-range and top-end. As an additional note, I don't even have to use the choke on the coldest days; I give it slight throttle for it to crank and then I can completely let off once it thumps over (that's just because of the pilot jet, though). Without rejetting, it'll be lean and you'll lose a bit of power.
@454FILMS Hey tool, you do realize that this is essentially an ATC250ES with four wheels, a longer stroke, and under 30 more pounds, right? We're talking twenty-year-old plus utility ATVs here; they're slow as fuck, period.
@heavychevy1414 1988 was the first year for the FourTrax 300, actually. Maybe it's a FourTrax 250, which has the same basic engine, just smaller. Can't beat old Honda air-cooleds!
@MultiBuddha69 This a 1988 Honda; the only thing truly electronic about it is its ignition system. It's a live axle 2WD. Also, you might like to know that all 4WD Honda ATVs were full-time until 2002 when they introduced the part-time TraxLok system on the Foreman. I haven no plans to sell my FourTrax 300, but it's the best-selling ATV ever, so it shouldn't be hard to find one relatively local to you for a good price.
It's been so long, it's hard to remember. It's mildly louder, though under hard throttle it's much louder. With the SuperTrapp mufflers, it's really up to you about how loud it is. Look up how their mufflers work. You can run as few as four discs, or as many as you can fit (though you'll have to jet the carb richer). I believe I'm running either 10 or 12, probably the latter.
Not really (or at least not bogging like you). Like I said in my description, I used to have some Mud Lites until one of them got its lip screwed up when my step-dad was trying to take it off the wheel (the wheel somehow got bent). Now I'm just using the cheapo tires that came on the new pair of wheels. The Mud Lites gave me a lot more traction and ground clearance than the current shitty tires. :P Eventually I'd like to get some Maxxis Zillas (supposed to be the new lightweight mud-tire king).
ya but i do ride my 4x4 one more becuse i ride in the mud a lot more than simmple trails thats y it has a snorkle and a lift kit with 29in. mud lite tiers
ya it is the snorkel goes 2 ft. over the handle bars and ive had water 2in. under the top and i like how it has low technoligy becase ive had no problems with the quad
The thing I like about the TRX300 is that it'd lighter and easier to throw around than a TRX300FW would be. I can't say I wouldn't like a TRX300FW, though, but I wouldn't replace mine with one.
hey how much power did u get from that pipe is it noticable and can u send me a link to the website u got it at i have the same quad execpt mines 4x4 1995
I definitely picked up a bit of power after rejetting. It'll pull a lot stronger on the top-end (and be more willing to) than stock. Check out the listing titled New Supertrapp IDS2 Tunable Exhaust for Honda TRX300 on eBay, that should be the system I have (it includes a larger header pipe). I would ask to make sure that it's the full system and is intended for a TRX300 utility quad (not a TRX300EX sport quad). The best place to get the jets you'll need is at JetsRUs. com, they're real Keihins.
I really didn't have much of a traction issue sans my first approach to the concrete pile (assuming that's what you're talking about). Although it'd be great if my FourTrax 300 were 4WD, I've never once gotten into a position with it that I wasn't able to get out of on my own in over six years of ownership.
@papergunian no shit? i'm glad someone figured it out. i did some research, and it seems that, 2wd quads have approximately 50% less traction than a 4wd. who would've guessed? only you!
i got the same exact quad and thoes old hondas are indestructable my dads friend rolled it 3 times and it kept running while upside down and nothing broke on it
I haven't done anything new to it and really don't plan to. :P It'll go around 45mph, maybe slightly more. Not too terribly fast. I can't get a locker for the front because this is a two-wheel drive model, not a four-wheel drive TRX300FW. I do wish I had one with four-wheel drive, but I've never gotten into anything I can't get out of in over six years of ownership.
See, you can do a lot more with a four-wheel drive than you think, and thanks! :D It really helps that it's so light compared to most modern day utility quads of the same size. But yeah, the 1988 model TRX300FW actually didn't have a front rack, then there wasn't a 1989 TRX300FW to my knowledge, but it returned in 1990. So just a quick way to the the 1988 TRX300s and TRX300FWs apart. ;)
@NFSGamerUSA well...polaris does advertise their bike's as "awd". i'm not sure why. even the selector button says 2wd/awd. never really figured it all out on those po po's.
@trx500fm1 Exactly, they're full-time 4WD (I don't care how they choose to advertise it). AWD means that the power/torque distribution between the front and rear is variable, whereas 4WD, like the Bombardier/BRP/Can-Am and Polaris "AWD" systems have, means that there's a constant power/torque distribution between the front and rear when the system is engaged.
@NFSGamerUSA well, i was just making a statement...not my opinion, but a fact. it always confused me though. either way, i am a faithful honda owner. 07 500 foreman 4wd, 2in hl lift, 27in outlaws, hl/epi clutch kit, and hl 1in spacers on all 4 corners. hopefully you'll get a 4x4 one day. you'll love it. just don't get too crazy with big tires...the honda's don't like those big tires! thanks for the reply.
@trx500fm1 I know you were, I was in agreement. Sounds like you've got a nice setup! I'm not sure if I'll ever go to huge tires regardless of what ATV I have; I don't mud bog and really don't see myself doing so in the future, and outside of that, huge tires are too much. If I were to get another utility ATV it'd more than likely be a Foreman 4x4 like yours. They may not have the bells and whistles of new ATVs, but they're stout workhorses! I REALLY want to get a 450-class sport quad, though!
ill be honest.... youre a fanny. you can tell your scared of damaging youre quad. even thought its worth 400 quid at most. I think we can all agree that a 1988 quad is past its use by date
Uhhh, no I'm not. Again, when I'm not doing obstacles as in the video, I'm riding all out (just like the last twenty seconds of the video). I've damaged many things because of it, too. I actually destroyed the front plastics from slamming into a fence going way too fast in some snow soon after this. Just because it's old is no reason to get rid of a mechanically perfect ATV (and IMO the best all-around quad ever made). I'd love to have a 450cc sport quad, but I don't have $5000 laying around.
Your a good rider and this is a good video and all,but I think its kind of funny how you can just get off the four wheeler and walk over the rocks no problem.
Well, I think in most all situations walking over obstacles would be a lot easier, but doing it on a vehicle is where the fun comes from! Look at rock crawlers, for example. An able-bodied person could easily walk/climb over one of their obstacles, but doing it in a rock crawler is so much more fun. You've got a good point, though! Haha!
Bahahaha! Go ride in some mud you unskilled redneck! My nearly nine years of experience tromps whatever you have. I don't see any videos of you riding, either.
dam i wonder if it would look nice black or orange

lets c a vid of u wheelieing urs then. and SLOW! com on man my 350 can beat a 500 arctic cat.
454FILMS 1 year ago
@454FILMS Sorry, I don't stunt; this isn't a sport quad. A 500lb (at least) utility quad making possibly 20hp isn't fast at all. Considering what pigs utility quads are these days, I'm not surprised you could beat an 500cc Arctic Cat (not that they're considered remotely sporty for utility quads, anyway). A 40hp, 350lb sport quad is fast. We're talking twenty-five pounds per horsepower versus just under nine pounds per horsepower; that's a HUGE difference.
NFSGamerUSA 1 year ago
How much HP would you say u gained from ur exhaust? Im looking into buying your pipe off of ebay at round the end of june
laxxmann4610 1 year ago
@laxxmann4610 Rejetted with the exhaust, probably a horsepower or two. It's not like I've dynoed it , so there's no real way to tell. After rejetting, it without a doubt pulls harder in the mid-range and top-end. As an additional note, I don't even have to use the choke on the coldest days; I give it slight throttle for it to crank and then I can completely let off once it thumps over (that's just because of the pilot jet, though). Without rejetting, it'll be lean and you'll lose a bit of power.
NFSGamerUSA 1 year ago
aahaha, if u wanna c a reall ride watch my videos.
454FILMS 1 year ago
@454FILMS Once again, just another slow, small utility ATV. Just about any ATV can be wheelied.
NFSGamerUSA 1 year ago
my buds 1986 honda 3 wheeler 250 can beat that peice of shit!
454FILMS 1 year ago
@454FILMS Hey tool, you do realize that this is essentially an ATC250ES with four wheels, a longer stroke, and under 30 more pounds, right? We're talking twenty-year-old plus utility ATVs here; they're slow as fuck, period.
NFSGamerUSA 1 year ago
i got one just like that but i think mine is a 86 model u cant beat the ole four thax 300 will last forever
heavychevy1414 1 year ago
@heavychevy1414 1988 was the first year for the FourTrax 300, actually. Maybe it's a FourTrax 250, which has the same basic engine, just smaller. Can't beat old Honda air-cooleds!
NFSGamerUSA 1 year ago
is it push button 4 wheel drive or just all time 2wd what state to u live in because if ur willing to sell i may buy
MultiBuddha69 1 year ago
@MultiBuddha69 This a 1988 Honda; the only thing truly electronic about it is its ignition system. It's a live axle 2WD. Also, you might like to know that all 4WD Honda ATVs were full-time until 2002 when they introduced the part-time TraxLok system on the Foreman. I haven no plans to sell my FourTrax 300, but it's the best-selling ATV ever, so it shouldn't be hard to find one relatively local to you for a good price.
NFSGamerUSA 1 year ago
how loud is the new exhaust compared to the old one?
laxxmann4610 1 year ago
@laxxmann4610
NFSGamerUSA 1 year ago
@jbquesenberry Thanks! A FourTrax will treat you very well!
NFSGamerUSA 1 year ago
nice atv dude. i am thinking about buying a 88 4trax 300 with cobra pipe.
jbquesenberry 1 year ago
do u ever go in the mud with urs
TheMudking12 2 years ago
Not really (or at least not bogging like you). Like I said in my description, I used to have some Mud Lites until one of them got its lip screwed up when my step-dad was trying to take it off the wheel (the wheel somehow got bent). Now I'm just using the cheapo tires that came on the new pair of wheels. The Mud Lites gave me a lot more traction and ground clearance than the current shitty tires. :P Eventually I'd like to get some Maxxis Zillas (supposed to be the new lightweight mud-tire king).
NFSGamerUSA 2 years ago
ya but i do ride my 4x4 one more becuse i ride in the mud a lot more than simmple trails thats y it has a snorkle and a lift kit with 29in. mud lite tiers
TheMudking12 2 years ago
Yeah, plus it'd just be more capable in most all situations. That sounds like a very nice setup that you're got!
NFSGamerUSA 2 years ago
ya it is the snorkel goes 2 ft. over the handle bars and ive had water 2in. under the top and i like how it has low technoligy becase ive had no problems with the quad
TheMudking12 2 years ago
i have a 2wd fourtrax and a 4wd one but ive got to say i like the 2wd one more cus it dosnt go through as much gas and its a better ride
TheMudking12 2 years ago
The thing I like about the TRX300 is that it'd lighter and easier to throw around than a TRX300FW would be. I can't say I wouldn't like a TRX300FW, though, but I wouldn't replace mine with one.
NFSGamerUSA 2 years ago
hey how much power did u get from that pipe is it noticable and can u send me a link to the website u got it at i have the same quad execpt mines 4x4 1995
laxxmann4610 2 years ago 2
I definitely picked up a bit of power after rejetting. It'll pull a lot stronger on the top-end (and be more willing to) than stock. Check out the listing titled New Supertrapp IDS2 Tunable Exhaust for Honda TRX300 on eBay, that should be the system I have (it includes a larger header pipe). I would ask to make sure that it's the full system and is intended for a TRX300 utility quad (not a TRX300EX sport quad). The best place to get the jets you'll need is at JetsRUs. com, they're real Keihins.

for a 2wd that things a beast
944killa 2 years ago
It gets the job done for me, at least!
NFSGamerUSA 2 years ago
Its not a 2wd. its a AWD and yes. it is beast. They only made the Manuel shift a AWD. My 96 Honda Fourtrax 4x4 is a beast.
IMUmbra 2 years ago
@IMUmbra you have NO idea what you're talking about. just shut the fuck up.
trx500fm1 1 year ago
see now theres the problem wit 2wd quads, they dont have as close as much traction as a 4wd quad. my fourtrax can make it throught that easy
papergunian 2 years ago
I really didn't have much of a traction issue sans my first approach to the concrete pile (assuming that's what you're talking about). Although it'd be great if my FourTrax 300 were 4WD, I've never once gotten into a position with it that I wasn't able to get out of on my own in over six years of ownership.
NFSGamerUSA 2 years ago
my bayou would do good on that also, with my 24" itp mud lites on it, and 4x4. lol
branman2012 2 years ago
@papergunian no shit? i'm glad someone figured it out. i did some research, and it seems that, 2wd quads have approximately 50% less traction than a 4wd. who would've guessed? only you!
trx500fm1 1 year ago
mines 4x4 though
itzvincent329 2 years ago
i got the same exact quad and thoes old hondas are indestructable my dads friend rolled it 3 times and it kept running while upside down and nothing broke on it
itzvincent329 2 years ago
Dang right! They aren't the best selling ATV ever for nothing! :D

So whats teh update of november. How fast will it go and why dont you get a locker in the front
jdshaq 2 years ago
I haven't done anything new to it and really don't plan to. :P It'll go around 45mph, maybe slightly more. Not too terribly fast. I can't get a locker for the front because this is a two-wheel drive model, not a four-wheel drive TRX300FW. I do wish I had one with four-wheel drive, but I've never gotten into anything I can't get out of in over six years of ownership.
NFSGamerUSA 2 years ago
It looks 4wd? Thats why you could rock climb lol. Thats preety good for a fourtrax
jdshaq 2 years ago
See, you can do a lot more with a four-wheel drive than you think, and thanks! :D It really helps that it's so light compared to most modern day utility quads of the same size. But yeah, the 1988 model TRX300FW actually didn't have a front rack, then there wasn't a 1989 TRX300FW to my knowledge, but it returned in 1990. So just a quick way to the the 1988 TRX300s and TRX300FWs apart. ;)
NFSGamerUSA 2 years ago
nice i got a honda 300 fourtex. i take mine up bigger things and mine dosent do that.
XLMAGNUM05 2 years ago
Cool! What do you mean by yours, "doesn't do that?"
NFSGamerUSA 2 years ago
does that have awd
masterlinsky 2 years ago
Nope, just 2WD. No ATVs can be had with AWD, you mean 4WD. ;)
NFSGamerUSA 2 years ago
can am visco lock smart ass
smokesonerubber 2 years ago
Sorry son, that's not AWD. If it is, you better inform BRP because that's not what they consider it. Get an attitude adjustment.
NFSGamerUSA 2 years ago
@NFSGamerUSA well...polaris does advertise their bike's as "awd". i'm not sure why. even the selector button says 2wd/awd. never really figured it all out on those po po's.
trx500fm1 1 year ago 2
@trx500fm1 Exactly, they're full-time 4WD (I don't care how they choose to advertise it). AWD means that the power/torque distribution between the front and rear is variable, whereas 4WD, like the Bombardier/BRP/Can-Am and Polaris "AWD" systems have, means that there's a constant power/torque distribution between the front and rear when the system is engaged.
NFSGamerUSA 1 year ago
@NFSGamerUSA well, i was just making a statement...not my opinion, but a fact. it always confused me though. either way, i am a faithful honda owner. 07 500 foreman 4wd, 2in hl lift, 27in outlaws, hl/epi clutch kit, and hl 1in spacers on all 4 corners. hopefully you'll get a 4x4 one day. you'll love it. just don't get too crazy with big tires...the honda's don't like those big tires! thanks for the reply.
trx500fm1 1 year ago
@trx500fm1 I know you were, I was in agreement. Sounds like you've got a nice setup! I'm not sure if I'll ever go to huge tires regardless of what ATV I have; I don't mud bog and really don't see myself doing so in the future, and outside of that, huge tires are too much. If I were to get another utility ATV it'd more than likely be a Foreman 4x4 like yours. They may not have the bells and whistles of new ATVs, but they're stout workhorses! I REALLY want to get a 450-class sport quad, though!
NFSGamerUSA 1 year ago

I just bought an old 95 fourtrax 300 great trail rider and it beats my friends bombadier 680 until we hit about 45 then he blows by.
Elliotfan09 2 years ago
Nice! I bet it's just as capable on technical stuff, too, being so small and light!

Thanks, and I agree!
NFSGamerUSA 2 years ago
is this all time 4x4
drumplayer93 2 years ago
Nope, just 2WD unfortunately, but it's light enough that lacking 4WD isn't too big of an issue.
NFSGamerUSA 2 years ago
still a great quad
drumplayer93 2 years ago
Most definitely!
NFSGamerUSA 2 years ago
ill be honest.... youre a fanny. you can tell your scared of damaging youre quad. even thought its worth 400 quid at most. I think we can all agree that a 1988 quad is past its use by date
gamermachine 2 years ago
Uhhh, no I'm not. Again, when I'm not doing obstacles as in the video, I'm riding all out (just like the last twenty seconds of the video). I've damaged many things because of it, too. I actually destroyed the front plastics from slamming into a fence going way too fast in some snow soon after this. Just because it's old is no reason to get rid of a mechanically perfect ATV (and IMO the best all-around quad ever made). I'd love to have a 450cc sport quad, but I don't have $5000 laying around.
NFSGamerUSA 2 years ago
Thats so correct..i just sold my 93 300 4x4 only because i needed the cash..these machines will run forever.

like the video, and thanks!
NFSGamerUSA 2 years ago
Your a good rider and this is a good video and all,but I think its kind of funny how you can just get off the four wheeler and walk over the rocks no problem.
woa11 2 years ago
Well, I think in most all situations walking over obstacles would be a lot easier, but doing it on a vehicle is where the fun comes from! Look at rock crawlers, for example. An able-bodied person could easily walk/climb over one of their obstacles, but doing it in a rock crawler is so much more fun. You've got a good point, though! Haha!
