I'm Chinese and I can understand his message in this song. I think it's a message of peace. Most Filipinos don't really understand Chinese culture, and vice versa. It is only normal for us humans to be stereotypical racists. But in this song, I don't feel any hate or insult at all. If he really wanted to insult us, he would've written some tagalog or visayan songs with explicit lyrics demonizing the Chinese. I believe he has respect for my race and wrote this song as a salute/tribute to us.
Hahaha my chinese friend believe me at first when I said that this is a chinese song and she commented that she didnt understand...hahaha Yoyoy was a genius.
Through the Looking Glass, and What Alice Found There). Maituturing na ngang art song ang Butsikik, at kasama na sa repertoire ng mga batikang manga-awit na Pinoy, kagaya ng Philippine Madrigal Singers. Nakakalula, nakakatulala. Lupet. Pinoy, eh.
@dapithapon Actually, during a TV interview at the launching of this single way back in the 80s, Yoyoy said the lyrics for Butsekik are gibberish he just made up, he just got the idea for the song after walking around Binondo and reading the various store signs of different business establishments in Chinatown. Just imagine walking thru Ongpin and reading aloud the various store signs you see in time with this music and you basically get the idea.
RIP Yoyoy Villame, you bring us a very nice song that is enjoyable to remember you. Thanks a lot
super like namin ang kantang to... paborito to ng late lolo ko, sobra, everytime he hear dis song, ung tawa nya tlagang nakakahawa... we miss our lolo bart and we'll alwyz love you... :)
super like namin ang kantang to... paborito to ng late lolo ko, sobra, everytime he hear dis song, ung tawa nya tlagang nakakahawa... we miss our lolo bart and we'll alwyz love you... :)
The story went like this: Yoyoy's car got stalled in chinatown. While pushing the car to the nearest service station, he read the names of the chinese stores lining the street. When he got home, he made a song out of those chinese names.
The word "butsekik" came to my mind this morning as I head the song before and as I asked asawa about it, so I found this video that makes me another happy day.
Actually, this is what would gonna happen to you if you have nothing to say about China and you're just forcing to believe. Like if you're not convinced with the Chinese trade or taikonauts I uploaded.
I couldn't even remember the first time I heard this song, probably mid 70's. Around that time Ramon Zamora was making movies with the Chinese. Maybe the words have some Chinese meaning. Who knows for sure, but regardless this song brought so much fun and enjoyment to the poor boys like myself of that generation.
@DonCheadleIsGod It's not spanish man. The lyrics is actually just made-up, no real meaning. According to Yoyoy (the writer), the lyrics was derived from different store signs in chinatown. He collated it and put a tune.
@nathanmidori Cebuano Chinese people tried to sue him to get the songs taken away from karaoke's, but they didn't find a single Chinese word so it never went to court.
i also come from Bohol like Yoyoy. when i was a child at the time when Yoyoy was still driving the public transport bus called MB Liner in Bohol, there was this popular bakery in Tagbilaran City that delivered fresh bread in the neighboring towns, and the bakeshop was called Tong Nam... perhaps, it is the "Tong Nang" word he used there.
this is a classic Filipino ingenuity. he is not chinese. the inspiration to make this song was his trip to Chinatown. he was amazed by the different store signs and made a song out of it.
i learnt chinese for more than 6 years. but still i cant find the word of these. its fake chinese. they just made it look like chinese to make other people think its chinese.
@lov2504 Yoyoy was bornin the "Bohol"province of the philipienes.. at the time he was a (cab driver) jeepney driver and his jeepney broke down in the "china town"area and as he was waiting to get it fixed he took the names of chiniese restaraunts and buisnes and fashoned the words with his "Bohol" accent (purley jibberish) .
@lov2504 the chiniese people tryed to take yoyoy to court because he was making fun ov the chiniese people but they couldent because the song dident have a true chiniese word in it hahahha . (info found on wickipiedia search "yoyoy villame" :)
Butse Kik (also spelled as "Buchikik" or "Abuchikik") is one of Yoyoy Villame's novelty songs widely regarded as one of his hits in the Philippines, and became a radio staple.[1]
The song consists of nonsense-lyrics that sound somewhat like Chinese. Some of the Chinese community in Cebu demanded that it be removed from jukeboxes but, according to Villame, a plan to bring the case to court failed because the complainants could not find a single Chinese word in the song.[1]
gawa gawa lang naman to ni yoyoy ng dumaan yung mga chinese di niya maintindihan yung sinasabi eh di ginaya niya yun ang lumabas a buchikik im sure di niya rin maintindihan yung panaggagawa niya
