Vyjayanthimala who was ruling Tamil cinema till this movie was on her way out. Padmini was introduced by you know who and was rapidly climbing up the fame tree. When they both had to dance here, they wanted to depict Padmini as more poised, fluid and beautiful and hence the dance movements. I am not saying that Padmini is bad. But Vyjayanthimala is more beautiful and an excellent actor and dancer when compared to Padmini. To see her acting, see her films that came out before Vanjikottai valiban.

Padmini is effortless. Much more natural than Vyjayanthimala who clearly has to work it a bit more.

I agree. Padmini was sharper in her Bharatanatyam. She was very agile and precise. She was a more aggressive dancer. Vyjayanthi on the other hand was extremely graceful, had fantastic facial expressions and very quick on her feet. Her mixture of all the semi-classical dances made her a superstar.

The Travancore sisters comprising of Lalitha, Padmini and Ragini, THe Sai Subbulakshmi sisters, Kamala Lakshman (Kumari Kamala), and Vyjayanthimala together with some other notables like L. @velama56 Padmini is more sharp, intricate steps and Vyjayanti is more graceful and quick on her feet.. Both have the same speed and agility and execution of steps. Its hard to say who is better. I would just say both of them are equally on par.
