I love Tom McCauley haha i had him as a director my junior year of high school when he was the conductor of the sussex county honers band. very good man
@aritg3 OK, I never heard that one...I'm glad Holst decided to resolve to E-Flat Major, rather than the E Major here (or maybe I'm just biased due to listening to the Eastman WE recording over and over and......)
@sillychad18 just because you were in band doesn't mean you will be able to pick if up. if you have a good knowlege of theory you would get it. they changed the last chord by making it a picardian 3rd.
sorry im playing this song in my 8th grade wind esemble, and just hearing this ending made me laugh so hard no one else wont understand it unless they palyed/heard the piece before.
hahaha, i do find it amusing, because all bands and their directors have a special relationship. if my band were to do something like that, the directors would joke about it and go along with us! :DDD you MUST understand what it is like to be in a band and play well, allowing you to do something like that. (:
i found this hilarious only because my hs band did something very similar on this very song last time we had a sub of course she didnt really notice though she did have a weird look on her face and after like 20 seconds of silence she just said "hmm, interesting ending" the room proceeded to burst out laughing
Mr. Contzius - that was absolutely hilarious. I couldn't stop laughing for about 5 minutes. It's of the same caliber as the "Organist Hallelujah" on our website.
I just had the entire ensemble finish up a 1/2 step from the printed note on their page. I think why it sounds particularly surprising is many instruments should play V-I. But in this case Those instruments jump up a tri-tone instead of a perfect forth. Ya got to love those tri-tones.
We totally need to do that!

You might want to retake that ear-training class. The last chord was not a tri-tone away, but rather a minor 2nd higher.

To answer your question it is B natural concert.
