  • I can fap to this.

  • if only I had of done this in the 80's or 90's, now it will cost atleast 10 grand! ah well you can always dream, borrow a friends or just get rebirth x)

  • Don't forget newbies .. all you need to have a lot of creative fun is a sampler ie; AkaiS3000 or similar, a basic computer with basic sequencing software (free on the net), a MIDI interface and a cheap MIDI Keyboard. TONS OF THE EARLY HOUSE/TECHNO TUNES WERE MADE ON SAMPLERS AND VERY LITTLE ELSE!!!!!!!!

  • @OneFifthNative

Come on... I thought we've been over this already...

Sure you can make music with samplers and computers but that's not my point...

I love old synths and drum machines because they're real...

I don't like to make music with a mouse, I want buttons and knobs, and that's it...

    Long live Ikutaro Kakehashi!

  • @henrikthedj I have an analog studio, that was for the newbies who may feel overwhelmed at the cost of analogs. Now chill.

  • @OneFifthNative

Ah... I see... No worries... Chilling...

  • @henrikthedj A crime of passion is no crime at all, at all.

  • or just get some software versions of these machines and a good suumming amp and a sound card and monitors so you wont spend the money you earned for a whole year :P

  • I'm Pretty close, to own every Instrument on the Vid.

Can you please tell me, if u use Grooveboxes?

  • @depauleable

I don't... I have the real thing... But I was thinking of getting a MC-303 just for pad-sound number five...

  • Is there a place that I can download (or buy) the song in a lossless digital format, or even an mp3?

  • @WDZSuperRaWR

You can get the track on my site... zelizi.perso.neuf.fr...

The title is "Delta" on the album More Acieeed 2006... For free of course...

    Long live Ikutaro Kakehashi...

  • Looks good except the power, I would invest in a furman for all that expensive rare gear

  • no new machines? what about a machindrum?

  • do you have a 101?

  • You should mention @ the start of the video : 30 000 Euros to begin with. KThx

  • yo whats the track you used for this video??

  • To @endless444: Just a thing I made with the machines... TB-303, TR-707, TR-727 TR-909 and a delay and a gate and a reverb... That's all... Simple...

  • I want an 808! I have its younger brother the TR909. Love them TR's to death.

  • massive Props. Hardware for life! I graduated from softsynths, and I can never look back. The softies and newbies who never used hardware are the ones that will debate you the most for using it. hey, as long as THEY are happy with softsynths, and if it causes synth prices to go cheaper, im ALL for it :). Anybody got an Arp they want to get rid off? lol

  • very nice!

  • Holy Moly have some gear! Nice video--you must have some releases out no doubt eh?

  • Is this a 202 doing the bass line in this video?

  • No, the 303... Using only 909, 808, 707, 727 and 303 on this track... And a gate and a delay...

  • I still curse myself for selling my x0x-stuff in the late '90s as the big 90s acid wave started to fade... :-(

  • Goddamn, You act like it's no big deal! LOL "Throw in compressor and Vocoder, Get the TB 303, and some 70's and 80's synths with the wood sides..." $1,000,000 later.... O.o. SEXY setup, BTW...

  • Thank you... It's actually more like 20,000... But if I had a million, well, there are many more nice machines to get out there...

  • Beautiful. I would love a vintage setup like this.

  • no kidding.

  • Where's the 626? that baby has the mother of all disco snares.

Super hot studio and great track on top nice to hear all those drum machines working together not end up mess with everything fighting for position. I am deffiantely with you on Hardware is better than software though, I have a modest set up and even though i will never make my money bakc its ten times more fun than an Xbox

  • This video rules

  • € 3200 for the drums € 3800 for the synths € 1500 for effects € 1000 for the mixer and monitors € 500 for cables, midi sync boxes, ... a total of €10000 you can do the same with: tr-707 (it has the sounds from the 909) akai s950 analog mixer midiverb 2,3 or 4 active monitors acces virus a or b this costs €1800
  • I'm at a loss of words... You probably mean that you could do the job for € 1800...

    I disagree...

The 707 does not have the sounds of the 909... An AKAI s950 is a classic piece of junk, but never sounds like a 303... I have an analog mixer and active speakers, and that cost me about € 3000... I got a Midiverb II which is a great effect... And finally; who would rather have an Access Virus than a Korg Mono/Poly? Only a mad-man...

  • i agree with the midiverb 2. Great vintage gear. But a akai s950 is able to play a recorded 303. but it still not has its great arpegiator(it's not 100% changeble).

the tr-707 is made as sugestion for the tr-909. it has the sounds from the tr-909 and multiple outputs, with a overdrive you can create the perfect kick and snare.

  • My point is: I collect vintage synths and drum machines. The price has nothing to do with it. Sound, feel and old age has everything to do with it...

If you want to get away cheap you can use any computer with an integrated sound card, download a bunch of VSTi's and samples and start bashing away... I'm sure this is the way that many records are made these days...

    Long live Ikutaro Kakehashi!

    Long live Tadao Kikumoto!

Long live Roland and their beautiful machines!

  • I couldn't agree with more about the "Long live Roland" thing. But price... well... it is important if you're not well-off. But still, there is a way of getting what you want on a budget: garage sales!

  • yeah man nice video you forgot step 0 robb a bankkk :D

  • you lucky lucky people

  • ok, so how much are we talking here?

  • What do you mean? Money, time or holes in the wall? A lot of all... Especially money... I don't have a car or house or anything of value except my precious studio.

Time helps though... I got me a machine or two every year for the past fifteen years.

Nowadays you could get almost anything you want on ebay, but the good stuff is always at the higher end of the price range. So how much for all the fat machines? 5.000 Euros at least, but well worth it...

    Long live Ikutaro Kakehashi.

  • i just read the sample cds thing :) lol.

  • Yeah... Funny... My point was that a laptop full of samples and VSTi doesn't work for me... More machines is always better and I like them old...

  • i totally agree... its definatly not the same. Softsynths are very flexible but need a ton of mastering and effects to sound good. Samples dont give you the tweakin and VSTI samplers still dont sound as nice as the hardware samplers do. Its still another 10 or 15 years before computers can rival real analogue gear. J'avais pas realise que tu etais Francais :) je suis Quebecois. Je vais alle visiter ton site web, jespere quil ya des mp3! :P a+

  • almost better than quantum computing !

  • Awesome! You say you think cheap cables are better, why is that. Also, do you think the Mackie SR you have sounds better than more expensive desks? I sold my SR years ago and got a Mackie 8-Bus and i'm not sure I made the right move, I miss the overdrive Gains on the SR. Dirty Bitches they were!!! The 8-Bus gains are too hard.

  • First: Cheap cables are better for my economy...

Second: I prefer the SR because the 8-Bus only has four knobs for the aux sends. If I could pick and choose I'd go for a Mackie Onyx 3280, a hell of a piece of machinery, but it's like more than 3.000 Euros and beyond me at this point.

    Anyway, keep tweaking those knobs!

Oh yeah, those dirty bitch preamps on the SR please me as much as they ever did...

  • uberschall vengeance loopmasters best service big fish audio mutekki propellerheads zero-g, east west toontrack Cakewalk Quazibeat Peace Love Productions sonivox etc the samples u get are from hardware, i wouldnt buy digital samples i could programme myself for free, thats the whole point, it saves having to buy the hardware, what do u see as a computer ? just anything with a mouse, anything that computes is a computer, even hardware computes, your not sat there on a drum kit and bangin a beat

  • y not save money and space and just get samples of your best stuff ? i mean every sound u mentioned, i have in wav, ive got shit loads samples, synths recorded from classic korg, tr, virus. drums from the tr etc etc u name it ive already got it recorded, just from buying sample cd's

  • It's just not the same with samples, VSTi and analog modeling or whatever else they use at the moment. The old machines all have unique features and sounds that are impossible to recreate with a computer and mouse. One of the best parts for me is patching up a track and programming all the different sequencers. Every track is a one-of piece that can't be reproduced.

Finally, I have nothing against VSTi and all that other stuff, and use it myself, but for different kinds of music.

    Patch'n'Tweak!

  • yh thats why u buy samples off the unique machines, its nothing to do with vst or any sound that comes out of a computer, its just a cd full of sounds that these machines make

  • Hmmm... I know what a sample-CD is... The thing about samples is that they're kind of static objects. How are you gonna get that filter of a 303 using samples? No way and no how...

I'll stick to my machines... No computers allowed.

    Long Live Tadao Kikumoto!

  • easy, the things u need, resonance, drive, distort, cutoff, env mod, decay, accent, dist, A D S R wich comes with every serious sound sequencing package like cubase, ableton, reason, u even get that in fl studio nowadays

  • I get it, you want drive, distort and dist... But you still need a mouse to make it work... I don't like making my music with a mouse, I wanna use both hands on old dusty hardware... And besides you can't get that real 303 sound with digital stuff... I've tried a bunch of emulators, but none are as lovely as the original.

I think we're gonna have to agree to disagree on this matter.

Just one final thing, who's gonna make sample CDs and stuff if it wasn't for guys like me?

    Live long and prosper!

  • You are living my dream!:D Iam so juelos of you! If you do not feel like the luckiest man on earth I will come and beat the shit out of you! =)

    How mutch did it cost?

  • I'm surely one of the luckiest men on earth... Don't beat me!

It cost me everything I have, including a couple of girlfriends... What's up with chicks and synths anyway? Not compatible like Atari and Amiga...

    Anyway, a 101, a 202, a 303, an 808 and a 909 probably cost you like 5.000 Euros on Ebay... Good luck!

Long live Roland! Long live Korg! Long live all creators of electronic music!

  • Very impressive. But you can still make great music with much less than that... Still, I think it would be loads of fun to play in your world for a little while!

  • fuck you ! as if the hard part was making a shelve and connecting the stuff... how did you gather the money for all that stuff is what i want to know :)

  • I'll tell you... I spent every cent I made the last fifteen years on my stuff... Fuck you too!

  • hahahah great

get 5 km of cheaps cables!!!!!

  • I really wish I had a tb303... would be lovley. The sounds of it gets me hi...

  • very nice explanation I like it but what do u do as decoration to cover up all trhe ugly spots cause my girlfriend likes the studio but she doesn't like all the mess from the cables and ugly pieces of wall...;-)

  • The synths also serve as decoration as far as I'm concerned...

I cover my studio with towels when not in use, not because I don't want to see it, but to protect my precious gear from nasty dust...

Girlfriends come and go... Synths are forever...

    Tweak!

  • Nice vintage gear. Old skool rulez! but I am missing the Roland TR 626, so your TR collection of the 80s isn't complete yet ;)

    cheers

  • I know... I'm working on it... The next cheap 626 on ebay is mine! Gonna get a 101 too, then I'll make another clip...

  • Sorry, I think I'm going to have to encourage people to think about this video and judge whether it's really useful or not. You don't even go into depth about MIDI sync, what has to be internal or external or what you're actually sequencing on.

In the end, all you're doing is showing off equipment.

  • Don't be sorry...

I don't go into depth about MIDI sync because I don't really need it, I got good old sync-24, which is more than enough.

I don't understand what you mean by "what has to be internal or external"...

About the sequencing... All the drum machines got their own sequencers, the 303 too. The 202 got two separate channels.

If you have any more silly questions, let me know...

And finally, yes, I'm showing off my equipment...

Long live Roland and all their wonderful machines.

  • @exactspace hater!!!!

  • Damn man, you make it sound so easy! :P I wish synth collecting was cheap...

  • Now that's the proper way to do it!

I have to go with a more "modern alternative" way because it's just impossible to get that vintage gear here. I go with a Sampler/romplers on 909/808-drums and FR Revolution on acid, K-station & Evolver do the rest. Man I'd love to get my hands on one of those 808's. Great stuff!

  • yeah proper. .long haul acid. .keepin it kiku'...

  • you got nice vintage lovely oldskool gears!

    but these maintenance...

    that's fu**ing hard way...

  • yeah bebé!! the real thing!

  • New machines suck! The old ones are faithful servants! Throw out your computer and hook up your sync-24!

Long live Tadao Kikumoto and his creations!

  • yea cheap cables might sound better but as u know they have new rolands now that doo all of that in 1 or 2 machines.. but its cool neways.. good luck to ya.. dont blow a fuse.. lol

  • I threw my sampler out of my rack long ago, but I have to admit I used it a lot in the 90's. For the style of music I'm in to nowadays the sampler kind of ruins the concept a bit. All analog, no editing, just pure classic synth and drummachine sounds.

    Tweak your knobs!

  • that's pretty good for an informative video.

However, you totally neglegted any mention of SAMPLERS, which is what most of the techno records were made with in the 90s, whether for drums or vocal snippets and such... VSTs/computers aren't the same.

  • u rock! 5 stars!

  • You ve got some delicious gear

  • Cool Video! Are you serious with "cheap cables sound better"?

  • Of course I'm serious... A little bit of noise and cracks only spice things up! And they're cheap... so when you bust one, just grab the next...

    Long live Tadao Kikumoto!

Oh by the way... just got me a 202 yesterday...

  • a lot of synths and drummachines

    i love it
