  • This is such a beautiful, mellow and deep song, all at once. Leon Russell is a musical genious.

  • often wonder if we really know ourselves?..a little self analysis goes a long way..

  • Great song from a great album.I first heard it when it came out.Thanks.

  • It would have been Valhalla to hear & album with Keith Green & Leon Russel matching wits words & occasionally doing a kind of dualling piano bar brawl...

Of course in reality Valhalla actually sucks big time & they threw Keith out because he was too damn honest & pushy & Leon you won't last too long there either dude but never fear because there's plenty of room & plenty of cool dangerous righteous people like Keith & probably Bob Marley out in the darkness beyond where Lucifer shines light...

  • Awesome show last night at The Canyon... sure wish I could follow him to Solana Beach tonight...

  • Magic Mirror you Big You You :) QC

  • love LEON !!

  • Just before I die , I want to hear two songs . It's a hard rain gonna fall sung by Leon and Goldilox by KIng's X . If you all haven't heard King's X they have the same soul and huge talent that Leon has . Not saying one is better than the other . Just , music that becomes part of your life .

  • Wore out the 1973 cassette tape album I bought in Mad City, from the back of a van downtown. Thanks for posting.

  • Awesome is too weak a word to describe Leon.

  • I so love this man.

  • Buy Carney, one of the greatest albums of all time !

  • Carney and the Blue Album, heck he had something great on every album. Can't find a better piano player anywhere.

  • Leon the king of Cool! A musician's musician!

  • I am so glad that Leon has here provided us all a clean and clear view of our own Majic Mirror. I see myself in everyone I meet.

  • A Musician/Composer of this caliber never needed the recognition of The RRHOF..to acknowledge his greatness!

  • Nobody puts more soul and heart in their music than Leon. After 40 years of listening, I never never tire of listening to his voice, his songs, and piano playing. He's the absolute best.

  • @dawntreader55 very nicely said and I agree with you completely. I have loved Leon seems like forever and there's no end in sight.

  • Allways cool! thanks to Elton John for helping out. One of the All time Greats! Mad Dog's & English Men Forever!

  • Leon Lifer. No one better

  • Yo, kozmic blues again! The worker is worthy.

  • Why Why WHY Do I Feel as Though The Inspiration From Rob Zombie's "Captain Spaulding" Came From This Album? or Album Art at Least......I Could Be Wrong?

  • What a great line......The left ones think I'm right...the right ones think I'm wrong!!!

My favorites are this one, Stranger in a Strange Land and Back to the Island!!!! Great songs!

  • Leon should BE the Hall of Fame.

  • His group was The Shelter People, right?

  • @apingos yep, they were indeed The Shelter People.

  • His group was the Selter People, right?

  • Wonderful, virtually unknown, song of the 70s

  • My very first concert in Miami FL, 1973, I've been in awe of him since, he's an incredible music man...Still my favorite sultry voice...Thank you Elton for bringing him back to life again.

  • My very first concert in Miami FL, 1973, I've been in awe of him since, he's an incredible music man...Thank you Elton for bringing him back to life again.

  • Yeah Madonna is in the Rock nRoll hall of fame but Leon isn't..WTF!!

  • @SuperIntuitive1 This is no longer relevant. ;)

  • @SuperIntuitive1 I think He is Now in the RR HOF ! He wrote most of the Music that put everyone else in there.,,, He played on Everybodys records in the 60s thru 80s.

  • @SuperIntuitive1 concerning Madonna: there's an old saying - eat more shit, a million flies can't be wrong! She has bought a huge villa on a small Cycladic island (Antiparos), but she's never been there - nevertheless hikers are no longer allowed trespassing this part of the coast - and her brother has to live under a bridge. Eat shit, Madonna, you suck!!!! Let's enjoy music, buddys, let's listen to Leon...

  • @SuperIntuitive1 Madonna is a whore before her time who struck it lucky. Leon is a musical genius that will never be forgotten.

  • I recognize the polarity of his mind and soul dealing with this society.

  • I just heard this song tonight on the late night radio. What album is this from? I can relate to this song completely.

  • @Brainsonthewall This is from "Carney", Leon's blockbuster 1972 masterpiece.

  • check out hank wilsons back leon in the early 70s

  • Of course! youtube doesn't allow for links but you can visit Leon's official website at leonrussellrecords (dot com). Thanks for listening! :)

  • @ceeceerider Sorry. I wasn't aware. I was drawing a comparison to Poe's Annabel Lee. Love the album! Thanks!

  • ceeceerider....does Leon Russell have his official site I could find?

  • @judecreek2 Xenkenito---whatever. I'm done with you

  • @judecreek2 i appreciate your time. thank you sir.

  • who dat nigga thank he be? santa claus?

  • @Xenkenito who you thank you be? funny? intelligent? nope. neither

  • @judecreek2 sorry i hurt your feelings for being so funny and intelligent.

  • @Xenkenito didn't hurt my feelings. You were neither funny nor intelligent. A little offensive and dumb, not funny.

  • Well, thank you. I'm glad we can agree. I just cannot understand how the dumb, offensive and not funny, can get your short sighted attention.

  • @Xenkenito

    WHAT!?

Breathe, then think about your "Black Humor." I ain't laughin'.

    DON'T be a Teabagger!

  • @Xenkenito why r u on this video if u don't like leon russell? Ur comments are unoriginal and hardly worth making...

  • @DINOLOVER6717 I love Leon! U are apparently crazy for responding to "unoriginal and hardly worth making" comments. thank you for your time.

  • @Xenkenito Lol, woooooow...Then why are you making the comments you are if you love him? Im not the one who's crazy. I am sticking up for a favorite Rock n Roll icon.

  • @Xenkenito I would have never guessed you liked him from your comment. I was mistaken. Just standing up for an extremely talented artist.

  • His voice gives me chills...the real deal. He's been around forever and only gets better with time. One

of the true artists of our time. thank-you Leon. Come on to Pgh. and bless us with your great gift.

  • Compare the lyrics of a song such as this, with examples of today's "pop" success... "Oops, I did it again..." Why are there no songwriters writing this level of excellence, in today's musical realms?

  • @NW7US

  • Amazing....

  • Saw Mr. Russell last night. His back up band was the pits. But when they went on break he was left on stage and sang two songs. This was one of those songs. I thought it was the best moment of the night.

  • Wow, forgot this one! What a treat.......

  • Such a mellow song, you just got to love it.

  • Leon Russell..... Brilliant musician....... I can't say enough about the man. Absolutely love everything he's done.

  • Amazing writer, singer, musician.

  • Very few musicians release an album where every song is a keeper. For Leon, "Carney" was such an album. I loved it then and I love it now. It turned me into a LeonLifer.

  • This whole album was a masterpiece!

  • dammm haven't herd this in 30 years....can I say it... "what a rush"

  • Such a deep song. I had forgotten this one over the years. Such a fantastic song! Thanks for bringing back years of great memories.

  • Wow i love Leon ... my generation has no idea what real music is. This is one of my fave songs ever. Thank you for posting this and keeping Leons music alive.

  • i just love this song. the words, the way he sings it, the way he plays. just wish the video was live

  • i still got the plastic on my carney album...even tho i played da hell out of it

  • listening to "Carney",now Magic Mirror -makes me wish the 80's never came. Glad he's still Leon, nobody will, nobody ever like him.

  • @220denyse i wanna be on the road

  • This song speaks volumes and has got to be one of the best he ever wrote.

  • Great close to a great album. Thank you Leon and those who produced that art.

  • your the man Leon

  • Leon was one of the greatest rock musicians of all time....and he wrote some wonderful songs. He inspired me to start playing the piano again!

  • @LowannaDunn What do you mean "was"?

  • I don't like this song;;; I love this song and lived what he sings about. It was my mantra for a few years. He is another artist who failed to get the recognition he deserved.

  • Another artist who should have been a superstar!

  • "the left one's think i'm right, the right one's think i'm wrong." truer today..... than ever before.

  • still love Leon~

  • too bad theres no video to demonstrate those nice rolls....

  • ahhh, the gal i left behind to this number, ouch, my bad, but thank you for a very well done video coupled with this haunting melody merry xmas

  • Everything on "Carney" transports me way down South. Great sound!

  • I've been sitting around for the past 16 years with some of his original vinyl records in mint condition...I have all these old 60s and 70s original records that i aquired from a relative... and I never listened to them...had no Idea how awesome Leon russell is?was?...

  • all i can say in this day is of course ...........welcome home if you are lucky enough to get here without a box

  • Wow ! ... Leon you are so gifted.

  • one of the first songs i learned to play and sing.

  • what are the chords?

  • lol..Em-Am-B7-Am..pretty much Em bluesin'.

  • "Do I see myself in anyone I meet?"

    profound.

This is in the same neighborhood as kris kristofferson's best.

  • Beau Velvet yes! Perfect!

  • 35 years and he's still my favorite. Composer, musician. People don't know all that he wrote and the stuff he didn't write, but sang better than the originals. No better piano on earth.

  • oh sorry . I was remembering Manhattan serenade

  • This is the first time I've heard this song! - But his piano style is so familiar and unique and is balm for the soul !

  • An awesome oldie, haven't heard in a long time. Loved it then, love it now.

  • Beau Velvet at his best...

  • Ah...Leon...what a fantastically talented musician. Should be in the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame. He's still my favorite.

  • @ZekeTheGreat So agree. He should be in a Hall of Fame. Talk about the ultimate pro.

  • @ZekeTheGreat Wish granted :D

  • Comment removed

  • my father does an amazingly riveting rendition of this

  • Ceeceerider, thanks really enjoyed this song from one of my favorite albums. Any chance of getting to hear Manhattan Island Serenade? Can't find that anywhere except on my old album.

  • sittin on a highway in a broken van, my fav

  • I sing this song every time my husband and I go on a road trip.Once it was actually raining as we sat in the van, popped a beer and waited for the rel estate agent to let us in our rental house.

  • sounds like a metronome in the background........

    Tulsa's own LEON !

  • Thank you for this most excellent tune!

Thanks, D, for sharing, and refreshing my memory.

  • Very Nice-lovely lyrics 5***** Thanks for sharing Tony. Keep Smiling

  • One of the best lyricists of all time.

  • Didn't "Carney" have a song called "Acid Anapolis"? I seem to remember my mother listening to this album back in 1972.

  • Yes it did. Great LP!

  • That's the album,dude. I got mine in 1975.Eleventh grade.

  • one of his best!

  • Music is magic! ;-)

  • Very soulful song!

  • Does anyone know a website that has the lyrics to this song?

  • One of my favorites (the others being "Me and Baby Jane" and "Manhattan Island Serenade") from my favorite album of Leon's. So under-remembered.

  • Carney. Now you remember.

  • Not under-remembered by me. I remember the album title, cover picture, song-by-song track list. I know how "Tightrope" did as a hit song.

Under-remembered by the music listening community.

  • would you believe me if i told you that after my mother died she sang "a song for you" to me thru old leon? that man IS spirit. he got old eyes.

  • I believe seeing him in person is an experience hard to forget, that's for sure.

Have you heard Donny Hathaway's "A Song for You?" That's an interesting take too. I like cover versions of songs that are quite different. Adds something to the original to have someone else interpret it in a different but still deep and personal way.

  • wow..it's posted...thanks

  • I rediscovered this song recently. Great. Thanks for putting it together.

  • One of the great poets of our times. Thanks for posting this ceeceerider.

  • Simply Sensational lyric's, song, and melody.

    Terrific post ceeceerider.
