I don't know why this theme wasn't more prominant in the prequel films? I know there was slight hints of it from time to time but still I LOVE this theme! Williams is a pure legend!
yoda, luke and leia themes are most soaring, majestic musics from the original series. I had a chance to see John, Steven Spielberg and Martin Scorsese at a Lincoln Center concert, it was out of body experience to hear his music live. George Lucas couldn't make it to the concert said John Williams than the orchestra roar into star wars theme, the crowd went wild!
Well yes, yoda from the "new" starwars was something a little diferent from the old good yoda.but dont you think that it all make sense?. I mean yoda became wiser after the lose of young Anakin. He didnt got mad about failing on defeating palpatine. dont get me wrong I prefer the episodes IV,V and VI but at least george got this one right. yoda became wiser after that defeat. one more thing to learn from the old jedi master.
@tresvecesed Well I agree and disagree. What you say about learning, even a great master is true.Theres no true right or wrong answer, just pure aesthetics of art
But most ppl who understand SW agree Lucas truly didnt understand the true aesthetics and deep inner concepts of what made SW great (his original writers did)
Yoda was about showing The Force was really about mind over matter - not the "crude matter" like muscle. His fight with Palpatine should have been more magical+mental, not physical
@KeyMasterGateKeeper I know. In the features for Episode II Lucas makes a big deal about how everyone's been waiting for Yoda to fight with a lightsaber, even though that completely contradicts what Yoda is about. He never trains Luke with his lightsaber, Yoda always made the point that the force was far more powerful. It seemed like he was so in tune with the force that a lightsaber was unnecessary for him, same with the Emperor. Yet we see both of them using lightsabers in the prequels.
If there is any theme from any movie that embodies pure knowledge... pure wisdom in the greatest sense its this theme. You can just feel the overwhelming knowledge of the force that Yoda has from this. It has a sense of romanticism to it , in that it makes you feel as if Yoda comes from an era long gone by in which there was true honor to be found in being a jedi.
Ahh Yoda, the true Yoda, the Yoda with the righteous, pious, inspiring attitude, the mentor and the unexpected wise creature, a wonderful, magical penumbra that exemplified that his ally was the Force. Not the hopping around crazy without reason and philosophy Yoda of the mediocre prequels.
I don't think so. Yoda, in the prequels, was in another epoque, an epoque of fall, the fall of the Jedis, and, as everyone, he made errors. Nobody is born wise, not even Yoda - he became what he is.
I think that his more human figure in the prequels makes him even more inspiring, wonderful and wise in TESB. Sorry for my English, I'm Italian.
@EverDreamer95 No, Lucas had Yoda hop around like another spastic lighstaber wielding junky that contradicted everything about the character. It was for the value of having some random action shit happen on the big screen. It contradicts everything about him in the old originals.
Listen, Yoda, in Episode I, II and III, failed, like... almost everyone else. But it doesn't mean he's OOC. Who, in his/her life, has not failed a single time? I'll make one single example: Yoda sensed fear in Anakin, yet he let Obi-Wan train him. Did he fail? Sure he failed. And did he learn from that? Sure! And that failure is necessary: it causes the exile on Dagobah, which causes years of meditation. Only then he is able to be who he is on TESB.
@EverDreamer95 And yet none of that has emphasis in the films. The only connection the audience makes is that he exiles himself because he didn't beat the emperor. Lucas sodomized his character like he sodomized nearly everything about SW, and that's basically that.
It has no emphasis, I think, because they're not Yoda's movies: they're supposed to explain Anakin's past, so they didn't concentrate very much on the other characters, except for Obi-Wan or Padmè. Maybe they were wrong acting like this, maybe not - after all, "de gustibus". Anyway, alright, then-- we simply have two *completely* different views of the whole Trilogy, so discussing again is useless - we'd end up fighting. *rolling-eyes*
On the other hand, the prequels are not only made of mistakes and epic lightsaber duels, and I'm absolutely certain of it. Yoda survives Order 66, and surely not for luck. They were attacking him on the back; he saw them, he demonstrated great ability and escaped. Also, he didn't let Anakin become a Master, and you cannot say that was a mistake or a random epic shit. Prove me wrong.
@EverDreamer95 These things have little to do with how poorly executed the prequels were. If Yoda was supposed to go through a series of changes and become wiser, it should've been implied. It never was, he was always projected as the same Yoda to expect from the older films. Thus, he became part of the disjointed and obsessive need for nearly every scene to be crammed with lightsabers or as much visual shit as possible.
@KrypticAsylum The reason the OT is so good, is because Lucas let others direct and had good editors on this team, this time it was all him all the way and we got this dogshit called the prequels. It was doomed to fail anyway, how can there be any drama when you KNOW who will live or die..its really stupid
@wildone106 Well put. All you young kids out there who love the modern Star Wars films, I guarantee by the time you mature, you will all realize that you've ALL outgrown Lucas and go back to the original trilogy, when he had great "grown ups" like Gary Kurtz or Irvin Kershner tell him to put away his crayons. This is what happened to all my younger relatives and friends' relatives grown up, they finally woke up and realized ep I-III suck! Search for "redlettermedia" on youtube or google.
@wildone106 And UR right that back then, Lucas had talented screenwriters, directors, producers, even his writer ex-wife gave him invaluable feedback. But mid ROTJ onwards, he thought he could do it himself, his ego and past success made him believe he did it all himself and could do it again
Gary Kurtz was credited with being the spiritual one who came up with The Force and its mystical aura. Do a google search for "Gary Kurtz LA Times Interview" to read about how ROTJ should have REALLY ended
