  • Looks like 8 'Air Supply' fans have voted...

  • God bless you Leslie - I hope you get thru the difficult time with your diabetes. Sorry to hear about the loss of part of your leg. Hope you continue to run the concert circuit...long to hear you on stage.

  • Sad he had part of one leg amputated in 2011...hope Leslie is with us a host of years to come, still playing....

  • Needs more cowbell!!!

  • Killer song that I ever heard!!

  • I was hit in the head with one of Corky Laing's signature drum sticks back in the mid 70's. (in Murfreesboro, TN of all places). I kept it for long time, but now I don't know what happened to it. That was one hell of concert. They were louder than God.

  • The best gigs ive seen have been Mountain,( obviously in their later incarnation,) once for the princely sum of £8.!! amazing considering the £100 plus ticket prices that are charged now. the atmosphere, actualy it doesnt come across on film, how good they are live. If you lucky you can catch one of Corky's drum sticks!! My friend caught one, and we had good feel of it in her living room... ;-)

  • This guy is legend !

He is Zakk Wylde before Zakk Wylde !

  • Get Well Leslie!

  • I love Leslie but that drummer is a beast =)

  • get well soon Leslie, you rock my world!!!

  • God bless you Leslie, keep on rockin!

  • What the hell did he say? 1:55 Tuna can?........

  • And since flipping the guy off didn't seem to be enough, the drummer then proceeded to try to hit him with a drum stick...

  • the drummer missed too much or what?

  • Nobody can play it like the man who wrote it!

  • rock on!!!

  • 40 years later, Leslie West and the band can still rock out with the best!

  • Nice rendition from the Mountain Man....still Rockin

  • OH HELL - WE ALL GOT OLD!

  • OH HELL - WE ALL GOT OLLLD!

  • look at all the old fart cooperate guys headbanging...classic!!

  • ..Amazingly sloppy, this song needs to be played with precision and timing, which this rendition completely lacks. Sounds like a cheap bar band cover.

  • @vachief

Oh brother! Where did you crawl out from?

HINT: This is his song bozo! He gets to play it like he wants and you don't.

    Sheesh

  • @lordsong7 ...Yeah...he can do whatever he wants, but we all know what he's capable of. This rendition just plain stinks, but on the other hand, had I been there I'm sure I would have enjoyed it anyway. We expect more from a guy with his level of talent because some of us remember how he used to play it.

  • @vachief haha just admit, you didn't know it was his song

  • @TimBirkenholz ...Corky Lang wrote the lyrics, Leslie wrote the music, but this rendition I didn't like....how's that for a little trivia, ya smart alec. lol

  • @vachief, Felix Pappalardi has been dead for quite a long time now, hasn't he??

  • @GBeret83 ....Yeah.....I heard it was his wife that killed him.

  • Is that an Epiphone? ....not bad for a back up guitar!

  • LESLIE!!!!!

  • "our" guys play better in their sleep than todays guys

  • Something so cool with so little effort. Real talent makes this happen.

  • fuckin drummer

  • Haha look at the drummer flip off someone in the audience at 1:20

  • The best Jewish guitar player ever.

  • stop talkin shit and listen to a genius at work...

  • sloppy old cunt...

  • @SADFACE1000 Whoa whoa, your mother is a what?

  • a woman, and yours is a dike

  • @SADFACE1000 HAHA, another 20 year old who thinks Guitar Hero is a real guitar and MTV invented Rock. Go fuck your woman, err mom again and get a refund.

  • @depper i think it is quite obvious that Leslie west sodomized you as a child.

  • @SADFACE1000 Awww , did I hurt your little feelings? I guess MTV didnt teach you how to be a man yet. Keep watching those reality shows though there Jr.

  • @depper not really. What I did notice is how you did not deny being molested as a child.

  • @SADFACE1000 hell yeah i like these conversations

  • @koekoekwarrior wanking off are we?

  • Man .... When he counts 1,2,3,4 and launches into the intro guitar solo, ...........that is pure sex !! What a sound !!

  • wow!!!! one of the best legends ever! I was not really in to shred anyway. leslie west is the guy I wanna emulate!

    God bless Leslie West!!!!

  • He always had the best guitar tone I ever heard.

  • I understand getting old sucks...but looks like he forgot his own words.. love his sound though....

  • I only discovered this guy last year but have youtubed like mad to find more of his stuff. Like a fine wine he got better with age. The man is as cool as penguin piss.

  • The stick firing into the crowd is a signature action of the drummer. Late in the vid you see them stacked on a stool next to him...all part of the show..

  • Ozzy in Seattle in 1970 and this....support aka backup...eye was sweet 16 and with my highschool best boy friend....Bill Blake.....I still got my Paranoia album!!! oh yeah....and I recall it was snowing outside.......kool lyric's paranoia

  • Live rock don't get much better than this !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What a grooving rockin' sound from just 3 guys.

    Magnificent

  • that drummer sux!! misses cues and licks and crashes ALOT!!!!

    prolly drunk

  • the drummer flicks someone off at 1:19!

  • @spikester3612 Sometimes if you would flip Corky off, he would give you a drum stick...

  • This band is not to hard to find, just look for the trail of fried amps

  • To think that it was just a line that the drummer came up with while the power went. They must have gotten something thrown at them or someone is heckling them. Too funny! This was my all time favorite band for a while.

  • What the Hell is the drummer doing, breaking sticks and shooting them out into the audience?

  • So, dumb question - is he in Eb? Or just doing the tuned down a half step thing?

  • @pyannaguy a half step down and Eb are the same thing...........

  • @bigboss9182 I know, I was just wondering if he was tuned down or actually in Eb on the neck. I was playing along, (without my glasses at the time - the neck looked distant) and it was late and I was too lazy to go out and check it against the piano.

Tuning down has gotten so popular (Stevie Ray, et al) - you know....

  • Cowbell beat wakes ya up....is it "Honky Tonk Woman" or "Mississipi Queen"? Four iconic notes set the riff so it's gonna be LESLIE this time YEAH!...we can do the Rolling Stones later on OK?

This song will ROCK ON FOREVER!!!!!

  • He makes his performance seem effortless. He modestly lets anyone who will listen, that leslie west is a outstanding guitar player.

  • I have this song on my workout music playlist & yes, I'm "old". Some music still hold their power, even with age. Listen & learn...

  • Look at all the old people in the audience. Ha you can sure tell which gen he played to.

  • @dflier52 Actually Leslie plays well to any "gen". I talk to as many teenagers as I do 50+ year olds... The mans been doing this for 45 years. The crazy thing? His outlaw playing raises brows the same way through all generations.

When you got soul and feel like Leslie does... people of all ages can relate. People want to FEEL their music... so in that vein, nothing has changed.

  • @depper Music knows no color or knows no generation, good music is just that good music, well said sir! about Leslie having soul and feeling alot of people don't understand that, you must be a muscian

  • I saw Mountain 3 times over the years... Thier energy is awesome !!!!

  • old rock and roller puts leslie in top ten for real saw him four times live baddddd dudddddde

  • Punctuation sir. It's a beautiful thing.

  • Wow Awesome ! Leslie West is a beast :D

  • I wish Mountain would hire a keyboard player so the could do the old Felix stuff!

  • Well West just did. Look up West, Bruce Jr. and Laing for some GREAT PLAYING like the old days! :) Two members of Mountain and one member of Cream for the ULTIMATE supergroup reunion :) Jr played bass and keys, just like his father.

  • Well, i see you are trying to make even more sense to yourself. Thats cool.... I already know your comments will get thumbed down to hell so enjoy your 5 days of fame before you go BAH BYE.

  • Funny, every time you try to call me out, I answer, you get banned. Some people never learn.

You have nothing to add of value to the thread, except to insult those in the video... so, your comment "go bye-bye", just like your sex life, just like your mama, and just like this comment. Bye Bye!

  • @depper lol you STILL on here arguing with everybody who shares a different opinion than yours ; ) lol

West and Satch for president and vice ; )

  • Good to see Leslie still rockin'...

  • @squidaudio ya im glid to see him still rockin sad to say i have not seen him in a long time so im going to start right now and look him up a keep on rock leslis

  • Leslie is a beast, and so is his soind OMFG

  • what a great blues rock song

  • he played with my dads band tonight! [: it was so cool!

  • fucking lucker :S I wish i could see him just once but NO no no no im stuck in this fucking country that is called Greece :/ LESLIE WEST AND JIMMI HENDRIX FOR EVER!!!

  • excuse me for talking rude but its annoying -.-. I love u

  • okayy?

  • I saw Mountain in 1974 at MTSU fieldhouse and they were awesome. Opening act was none other than Joe Walsh and The JAMES GANG, now that was a show! believe it or not, bet there wasn't a thousand people there! WOW did they miss out on a fantastic show! AH the Good Ole Days!

  • I think I was there! At MTSU (if you're talking about Middle Tennessee and not some other MT). Because there wasn't a big crowd, some friends talked me into joining them rushing the stage. I got hit in the head with one of Corky Laing's drumsticks. Kept it for years - now I dunno what happened to it. Great show! So loud you could measure it on the Richter scale.

  • That's the one! I lived in Columbia at the time and we went over for the show. Unless I am mistaken it was wintry which caused the low turn out. It was loud as hell and awesome!

  • My mistake, Joe Walsh was not there, but James Gang was the opening act. Joe Walsh left James Gang in late 1972

  • lucky the guys who were there for this one,..

  • That opening percussion cow bell beat...Leslie's signature 4 beat riff & lyrics...Mississippi Queen is one of those special songs that keeps playing in your head...even when the song ends!!! LESLIE WEST & MOUNTAIN are proof CLASSIC CAN BE TIMELESS!!!!!

  • I wonder who West was pointing to in the audience. Looked like he was calling in an air strike (or a drumstick strike)

  • Who is the bassist? I know its not Felix he died in the 80's

  • good song, but i cracked up with all the old people moshing lol

  • That drummer is terrible. Meter issues all day. Leslie is frustrated a few times with him but still remained awesome.

  • Bream you daymned idiot. THAT DRUMMER is Corky Laing... one of the greatest rock drummers that ever lived.

You need to go to school... check this link out and look at THAT DRUMMER...

"Mountain - Never In My Life - New York 1970"

Go right to 3:27, the solo...

  • No offense but CORKY LAING is not that great. I listened to your request and I will maintain my position. As far as cool status yeah, he was in Mountain and that is bad ass. However if you ask anyone who Corky Laing is they will probably have a look of what are you talking about. LEGEND would entail notoriety alongside talent, innovation, and draw. You wouldn't put Dwight Yoakam in the same breath as Johnny Cash would you? Being a fan is one thing but reality is another.

  • Everyone is entitled to an opinion. Now to prove you wrong, with your OWN WORDS.

What year is this? 2007. What year was my request? 1970. Thats 37 YEARS LATER. And we STILL DISCUSS HIS NAME.

THAT is notoriety. As for the innovation and talent, thats not a popularity contest. Listen to the Corky interview for an education. its on the tube. There are many many drummers who site Corky Laing as an influence. And who site his talent. Just read all the comments here.

    Now, Go Home dumbass.

  • Corky Laing = Jon Bonham? Neil Peart? No.

Corky Laing a 5 star? No. Neil Peart YES.

My guess is you are a drummer or guitarist possible bassist who enjoys classics from 37 years ago more then what is going on today. Not that music today is generating nearly if any legends from that era but Corky Laing may have been your influence however the rest of the world in 2009 outside a select few may actually list him in their references.

So keep living in the past brother.

  • "Not that music today is generating nearly if any legends" ---> Your own words Bream.

Many drummers of the 70s 80s 90s and today have named Corky AND Leslie AND Felix as influences. You are 25 years old. You arent expected to know these people, or their history.

But Corky, Bonham, Appice are respected as the hardest bangers of them all. But Corky, in my opinion, had them both with his precise Jazz timing.

You are insulting with your lack of respect of the legends.

  • truth

  • Agree. People throw out the terms "legend", " amazing", and "awesome" far too often these days, and it's almost always undeserved. What makes Corky Laing stand out above Doug Clifford, Don Brewer, or Simon Kirke? Nothing. His claim to fame is playing in Mountain, and in the grand scheme of things, Mountain was just a blip on the radar of 1970s rock. But it's pointless to argue with the unwashed masses...

  • Corky Laing is a riot!

  • An epic classic! Such an amazing song!

  • Is that an epiphone he's playing? That headstock looks a lot like an epiphone.

  • Comment removed

  • OK history lesson here.

    Leslie West influenced guys like;

    Randy Rhoads

    Micheal Schenker

whom in turn they themselves have influenced TONS of players to this day.

It must be said that these clips are very precious & should be a point of reference for any guitar player young and old to see how rock-metal guitar has evolved & where these blues/pentatonic sclaes can take you;if you just learn your phrasing.Leslie West played/plays with tons of feel,& heart.

  • also zack wylde and eddie van halen

  • i think west ate a mississippi queen

  • With ketchup, mustard and relish.

  • ha....

  • The arguments from the youngsters that 'their' guy is better than 'our' guy are just the folly of youth. If it hadn't been for 'our' guys, they wouldn't have 'their' guys. If it hadn't been for ol' Orville and Wilbur, we wouldn't have had Chuck Yeager. Someone had to 'blaze the trail'. And Leslie West was one of those trail blazers. So, a little respect please, kids.

  • @fergusof meh I'll just listen to the music and not care about who thinks is best

  • @fergusof

Agreed...well said my friend. Show some respect you jackwagons! Now go trudge on over to mamby pamby land and listen some skanky white ga ga princess sing into an Auto Tune and quit defiling real rock n' roll by coming over here and demeaning this site!!

  • @fergusof I'm 17, and I'll be honest, i pretty much disown "our" guys (sans MCR, Slash, Joe Bonamassa, and John Mayer) in favor of "your" guys. These guys are the ones that still know how to do it right, and hopefully more of the generation I have to claim will figure it out someday.

  • every house needs a good foundation or it doesn't stand,,check out one of the bricks, awesome,,,thanks for the post

  • Its easy to make fun of great classic rockers because they are old, but greats like Ozzy, Paul Mccartney, Clapton, and Leslie West can still kick the shit out of the stupid ass sell out pretty boy bands of today

  • God Bless Leslie West.

  • What do imagine the average age of that audience is? 50?

    Still awesome.

  • Age is just a number when you help pen one of the greatest Rock n Roll Anthems in music history. The riffs are just that good. Purely electric.

  • amen to that! I'm 50 and appreciate good music.

  • 50 and not dead yet - ya' think my generation can't appreciate good music? Just wait, you'll be 50 one day and if you're lucky you'll still be rockin' like I am

  • Hopefully I am! I just meant it was a shame that there aren't any kids more around my age (18) there.

  • No offense taken - rock on

  • As I am way over 50 I always love to ask young people who bring this topic up. Where is your generation's Leslie West, Eric Clapton, Jimi Hendrix. Here is your annswer you don't have any.A few imitators including Eddie.

  • You're right. We don't have any. I was just disappointed with the lack of kids I saw. Most of the music I listen to is stuff like this. I have tons of vinyl from the 60s. That generation definately had the best music. No arguement here.

  • davy knowles of back door slam is our only one

  • we have one davy knowles of back door slam check them out

  • Dont answer Velmous, Mighty. He is a live-at-home-with-mommy-sleep-with-mommy 50 year old recluse butt-muncher. Been banned by almost ever Leslie West/Mountain poster. He just flames posts with bullshit.

  • Hey Dean..Phat boy ain't using your ax. Isn't this awful???

  • ok bluezlick, its your turn now... ban Velmouse... all he does is flame Leslie West posts... advice: ban his ass and delete his useless comments...

  • "VELMOUS" leslie might be overweight but hes a man with soul and talant, in fact i met him in 07 met him shook hands and he signed a free poster for me.

  • What if this man mountain legend had hooked up with his friends Tim and Carmine of the

Vanilla Fudge! America's answer to the Cream?

    Great post bluezlick! Thanks!

  • They added the keyboard so they wouldn't be seen as a Cream copy cat.

    I think.

  • It's HIS song dumbshit!

  • Hahaha, what in the blue HELL are you talking about!? Leslie West may just have the greatest guitar tone in rock history. The man is GOING to do sound checks... I'll GLADLY wait 2 minutes or so, so he can get his sound just right... and so would any other Leslie West fan. Now go play with your Mighty Mouse cartoons.. and sound check yourself and turn the sound waaay down... thank you!

  • saw them at the waterfront it rocked got a drumsick from corky laing

  • the best it rocks!

  • Felix Pappalardi (rip) used to perform with Leslie, back in the early days. He was very talented, classical background. Worked with Cream producing Disraeli Gears, then started recording, arranging and playing with Mountain. He was killed (shot) by his wife Gail, who has since disappeared.

  • Obviously there is a person in this world who has never seen Corky "live" do a drum solo!

  • unos de los guitarrista del mundo la lleva leslie west ¡ yea!!!!! :):):):):)

  • leslie needs a better band..hes great and they suck

  • Corky Laing (the drummer) sucks!? Im not going to ask you you if you are a moron... you are wearing the shirt.

  • I saw Leslie West twice at the Golden Bear in Huntington Beach, CA back in the 80's. Each show was a pure delight. Leslie cpativated the small crowd of 200 or so with his storytelling and raving guitar. He even played guitar with a violin bow and got the strangest and erie sound out of his Les Paul that still haunts be today. Leslie you kick ass and always will. You are a guitar GOD!!!!

  • I WAS THERE TOO !! Best show I'd been to at the Golden Bear. Sadly, I hear it isn't there anymore.
