The one true moment in this is at about 2:43 when Mike says, "The most fun was the character assassination.... We had a lot of fun at The Monkees' expense." THIS is what they really thought of the movie if you read or listen to what they said years later about it.
Great footage from a show that I've heard didn't preserve a lot of their shows so thanks for sharing!! Peter looks remarkably upbeat so I'm guessing this is before he got turned down for the role of Dr. Zeus. <{;-})
@aimtrue45 That was the early conception of "The Monkees present" even after peter left the were still gonna do a double album 1 side for each and a group side. but, money was tight and colgems said no and it was put to 1 album
This is an amazing survivor, just the sort of thing that one hopes would turn up on DVD reissues. Rights problems and all that I guess...I love how Mike directs his 'pontificating scenes' comment to Peter (obviously referring to the 'Guru' sequences in Head) and Mr.Tork gives him a look right back. It's a miracle they did the great work they did when you consider how different they all were. Thanks for posting, a brilliant clip!
@rouens Don't know for sure, but I can share this much..Hy Lit was a deejay at WIBG in Phiadelphia. WIBG battled WFIL for listerners. from the mid-60's until the early 70's Philly's first FM station was just getting started at this time (WMMR) Another big time Philly deejay, Jerry Blavant, had an afternoon TV show called the Discophonic Scene; thiss show was probably an attempt to capture his audience once his show went off the air or Blavant's show was the lead in to this.
Long John Wade was a DJ at WDRC in Hartford, CT. He traveled with the Beatles on their '64 tour. Looks like he wormed his way into the Monkees camp in '68, while they filmed "Head" in early 1968
Peter: We don't have much time left. We got to hurry up and get out of here because we got a couple of more interviews and we got to get into an airplane. Funny ♥
that interviewer is completely ignorant.....it just goes to show that even some hosts in the 60s never properly did their jobs, as today, like, remembering the NAME of the movie?
"no, HEAD, you idiot!".......hilarious, .....go for it, Peter!
@LunaGracie I wonder Peter did that so he wanted the host to speed up the interview. @0:42 Peter: "Excuse me, your blocking his camera angle (both camera angles). John wants to get his head in there." We can barely see Long John Wade's face in both camera angles. ♥

Peter Tork is so damn annoying. I cannot stand that idiot.
Davy Jones was by far the most talented and charming of the group. R.I.P.

Great clip, too. I can't wait to order this set. Peter looks tired, too, to me at least. I think Mike's comments about Hendrix is cool. :)
