  • smooth and,, first the music...CUDOS!!!!!

  • That brush work is so difficult to play the way he does, well done. I'll stick to rock.

  • Great feel, wish it went to some time played with sticks but the tune never really opened up for it. Great job!

  • lol charlie brown music

  • Just time and played so well. Imagine that! So refreshing to see and hear someone that has their priorities right. Serve the song, to hell with chops!

  • Hit the bass drum one time!! How many drummers do that during a tune. I loved his feel between the 2's and 4's. I worked for a piano player who hated drummers. I played brushes and high-hat only for 3 years before I graduated to sticks. Best drum teacher I ever had. Great job!! You don't have to show great technique or flashy chops to do a tune justice.

  • Um, good playing, but every drumset player taking jazz studies at my college could play brushes like this. Nice playing, but this is Brushes 101, nothing amazing.

  • @MrDrummerboy79

The patterns he's playing aren't advanced, but he has a great feel. I would argue most freshman jazz studies majors don't sound this good.

  • @MrDrummerboy79 Does it have to be amazing technically? It sounds great, and surely that's the point -.-'

  • very nice!

  • Sweet.

  • Great job. I love seeing a drummer with good brushwork.

  • This is dope, great stuff.

  • yes 'planet" you mentioned, would that be Uranus? thanks Danny, but frankly I'd rather be watching the pianist play, imo the performance was boring, thanks anyway

  • absolutely top brush playing.

  • great feel , great sound , great technique .... tremendous playing

  • This is what make a REAL drummer. Very Awesome.

  • I like to party.

  • @cuttergring and the link to your video is???

  • Anybody know what song this is?

  • between the devil and the deep blue sea

  • great stuff. he makes it look so easy!! and the piano player was bangin some serious ivory too!! love it

  • This never gets boring, I love brushes.

  • Cool sound great playing but to me would get really BORING after 5 minutes

  • @kforce20011966 Don;t you mean that you would get boring after 5 minutes?

  • Incredibly cool...

  • This is like peanuts music.

  • 'gotta love the pulse!!

  • nice @_@

  • WOW!!!!!

  • nice job. well done! vongratulations

  • much love

  • ive got to work on my legato swing feel more. But for only using brushes a couple of weeks this video makes me feel like I'm playing like I should. Light, controlled and tight.

    This video is great btw

  • uh -.- at first i thought the tip of the drumstick was moving fast..then its just a brush

  • i really enjoyed this video !!!

  • absolutely incrdible brush contol! respect!!!

  • Is he ghosting 4 on the floor ya think?

  • Naa

  • He doesn't need the bass drum ghosting -- he has the quarter note going with his heel.

  • Awesome.

  • I love the volume control at the very end...what a beautiful piece of drumming...It's making me want to learn how to drum

  • i must get some of those brushes

  • Yeah!

  • swingin'!

  • nice!!!!!!! :D :D :D

  • Incredibly relaxed, fluent playing, it's almost as if he had been jamming to this song for years. Great post!

  • plus a great little drum set. It doesnt take an expensive one to make a great drummer.

  • Actually it is a very expensive set. Gretsch USA Custom's I believe.

  • They're Catalina Clubs. Not very expensive.

  • nah, it's catalina club drums... I got the same kit. not expensive at all.

  • always cheap always amazing and look fab too ;)

  • pheonominal brush pattern

  • brilliant thats drumming watch and learn!

  • Hey Charlie Brown, lets go get a Christmas tree , come on Snoopy you too. :)

  • you just don't respect different styles of drumming. Personally, I LOVE seeing stuff like this, jazz, swing, funk, R&B drummers, etc. I love groove, not speed.

  • he's playing for the song. not everything is going to be a whopping huge mega drum solo....have some control:)

  • I think the tune title is ... "You got me in between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea "..also think Ella sings it??......

  • Excellent! :)

  • Envidiable tu manejo de las plumillas, me ha servido un monton ver tu video. Gran trabajo.

VicFirth jazz brushes? I play with Heritage, but a have Jazz brushes too.

  • That was really cool. I've been listening to OP for over 30 years, and I probably would have assumed it was Ed Thigpen, had I not seen the video. Never heard that version of '...Devil...' Very enjoyable.

  • sau cool :)

  • calm music..i like it =)

  • What brushes, what hi-hats, what skins, what everything? :) I love it!

  • i love it !

  • The guys has great time & great feel.

    totally cool!!

  • In my view, and those drummers I have studied under, try and create a subtle hi-hat sound with this kind of work. Its not necessary to create a solid hi-hat. It doesnt matter how you go about creating this sound, heel up/down as long as that hi-hat is played on 2 and 4.

If you notice, when the music goes into 4, the hi-hat sound is more prudent as opposed to delicate when the music was in 2. Listen.

  • mcnuggetman, Please point out what he was doing wrong in your view. I'll tell you what i think, this guy has a solid feel and understanding of how a quartet sound should be like. Have you listened to much Oscar Peterson? The hi-hat sound will change according to the feel, sound of the band and the room in which you are playing.

  • man thats nice.. I like!!

  • watch how you use your foot on the high hat you might want to change it ;) but good snare drumming with brushes

  • Its so nice can hear you and can see you hear. I loved it, thanks honey.

  • How cool is that... :)

  • smooth as it gets!
