  • who is sad enough to dislike this?

  • I hope the craic is ninety in heaven ronnie

  • Too much Bono or not - this song still brings a tear to my eye when I think of the man who, together with Luke Kelly and the boys brought Irish folk to worldwide fame.

  • All the best, Ronnie! Not great song but five stars too you!

  • i miss ronnie so much. it doesn´t matters who´s writting or promoting this song! ronnie was missing his wife and he was going to death while bono was whriting this song as a tribute for a great man!

  • class thats what i think,rip ronnie

  • Here's to you, Ronnie D.

    Live forever.

  • Why is there a ballad to Ronnie Drew alone? All of respect to the man, but he wasn't the only one. What about Luke, Ciaran, Barney, John,... ?

  • @kerstmanneke82 this was made for ronnie while he was sick and dying, its a tribute to him that he was lucky enough to see before the end was an added bonus. It was made to help him through a tough time from his friends and companions so not sure why you are asking why its only to him..no offense to Luke or any of the others, I love them all to bits, but this was made for him alone for a great reason

  • Beautiful song! Rest in peace Ronnie!

  • This is a fitting tribute to a legend. there wont be another like him. RIP Ronnie Drew

  • happy to be irish we have all the legends

rip ronnie drew no1 high king of irish music

  • Damien Dempsey, top man!

  • Can someone please send me the mp3 of this? Studio not live.

  • Its not who is singing the song, its not how well sung the song is, its about the meaning of the song, Long live the bit of Ronnie Drew in us all.

  • You'd think he'd just gotten married...

  • Who is singing 1:44?

  • That is Christy Moore.

  • @MrSteamboatWillie Christy Moore

  • I dont like Sinead O'Connor

  • Agreed

  • also who is singing at 3:10 3:25

  • who is singing at 1:45 to 2:00

  • C'mon man, it's Christy Moore!

  • Is that glen hansard at the end on the phone?

  • Yes it is. He was in america at the time, so he phoned in his part.

  • great song but shit quality

  • good too see christy moore and dubliners but no saw doctors wtf ???

  • Well I'm not a U2 fan, or anything. But I think they did a good job bringing Irish bands and singers into this, to pay a tribute to Ronnie Drew, who definately deserved it.

  • I agree, however you forgot Ciarán 0o

  • You are right.

  • As much as I like Bono and all, he doesn't even come close to Ronnie, Luke, John or Barney...

  • Obviously an apple is the same thing as an orange....

you can't compare a pop singer and a folk singer.

  • The way I see it, a singer is a singer is a singer. When a folk singer sings a pop song, is he a folk singer when he sings it? And the other way around ? Also, I don't believe in categorizing music...

  • Lol man, first time I hear someone say that he don't belive in categorizing music.

So for you, Pavarotti and the Village People are the exact same thing and they play the exact same music ?

I'd like to see the village people perform one of Pavarotti's songs.....and Pavarotti's dressed as an indian haha

  • Exat... they are all singers NOT things

  • @LoneWiz forget about categorizing music, you're not saying that bono comes close to Ronnie and Luke, are you? Not to mention Ciaran, Barney, John and also Paddy, Jim and Eamonn

  • Bono has no less than 20 years to come close to them, he has'nt? :-)

  • great song, just has too much Bono In It.

  • bono is at 3.06

  • Come one guys it doesnt matter who sucks its just appreciate the song that honors a great man.

  • who is the punk style singer at 3:06?

  • i think damo or shane shoulda got the lead, bono is d worst ting bou dis country, 16th of august, raise a pint of plain for ronnie, anyone that doesnt know what a pint of plain is shouldnt really be listening lol

  • You're right. Bono has turned into a bollix and should not be in the lead. How come Sinead didn't sing more? There were others there that woudl have done better than Bono, but he probably organized it. Shane is great but he did look shook. I really hope he is not the next one they are singing about.

  • Ling live Ronny! And long live Shane!

  • That sampling of Hallelujah.. "sampling"/"stealing"/"borrowing" or otherwise... is perfect.

When the historians speak of the heroes... Dylan/Springsteen/MacGowan/Moore/Clancy/Makem... A man called Drew will always come first.

    Drink up, boys.

  • To be honest, Shane makes this song, he gives it so much soul, every time I hear his first verse, it brings tears to my eyes.

  • R.I.P Ronnie Drew

    Heres to you Ronnie Drew

  • i know everyone, exept for the blond girl with the violin, anyone knows who she is?

  • i think she is from the cores

  • hes not drunk dickhead lol

an i agree bono should not be lead or for that matter in it at all lol theres plenty of people they left out

  • damo is one of da best singers on dis

  • Shane MacGowan is the best here!!!

    RIP Ronnie

  • I agree with you!

  • Shane is not drunk, he probably drank 1 beer for looks, he isn't as drunk as he seems to be.

  • WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT????????

If you like irish music then its a fucking disgrace that you dont like shane!

    YOU FUCKING RETARD

  • for sure, he sings with heart and soul, not pompous

  • kinnegad, its a great tribute, its just that i dont think bono was really meant to sing lead for this, i cant help but listen to this song and listen to bono at the same time, but im sayin he isnt really that good of a singer to me

  • Typical Irish begrudgery and hyprocricy,U2 move their finances to Holland to avail of tax breaks in the same way we entice American companies to invest over here. They have given millions back to this country through over many years and I for one am proud they're Irish. They hurt no one and bring joy to millions. Every musician in this vid is special. Why knock any of them? If you don't like someone then don't listen to them. Simple. Great tribute to one great Irishman from others. Thanks.

  • Screw Bono, RIP Ronnie.

  • you - border - now :P

  • fucking stalker :p

  • "you - border - now :P "

    LOL.

  • Bono your not irish if you were you'd pay taxes here you slimy arrogant dick

RIP ronnie true irishman and a true entertainer

  • a great man

  • Shane is looking worse and worse ... hopefully they won't be getting together next for the ballad of Shane MacGowan

  • makes me wonder when ya see the talent in that room, how they couldn't have come up with something a lil better, and a lil more dignified? i like the sentiment though. RIP Ronnie

  • bonos not irish..... hes a west brit

  • Excuse my ignorance, could someone give me names of the gentlemen at 1:26 and 1:46.

  • At 1:26 its Shane MacGowan from The Pogues, I'm not sure about 1:46 though...

  • Thanks, he's got an interesting style, I wanted to find out more about who he is. Quite a character it seems. :)

  • the second guy you were wondering about is Christy Moore. check out "black is the colour"

  • 1:46 is christy moore

  • same as that iv a tears in my eyes and a lump in my throat!wot a tribute...they couldnt have done it any better.

its what bein irish is all about.

    r.i.p ronnie

  • That brought a tear to my eye. Thanks to bono and all involved for putting it together. One of my all time favourite songs is ronnie singing "the ballad of st anns reel" and its a fitting tribute he should get his own ballad. I met ronnie once after seeing his one man show in andrews lane, gentleman and a legend. R.i.p Ronnie.

  • 1) Bono didin't write this song alone.

    2) There are many old Irish traditional music artists who together with u2 and the Corrs wrote that song.

    3) I guess You have something againts Bono which made you post this stupid comment that no-one wants to see won't care of.

  • bono and robert hunter wrote the song with bono having a major input, the other artists were only asked to sing NOTHING else, so shut your mouth.

  • haha yeah look at that there is shane macgowan :D

  • Ronnie Drew was a great man and I think this is a great tribute. I'm sick of seeing all the bono haters here on youtube. If you don;t like Bono thats fine. There's no need to post negative comments on such a positive video. Like Damo sings in his verse the more that we sing the less that we fight. So let's all just sit back relax and have a pint for Ronnie Drew.

  • bono just used this as self serving bullshit. he had nothing to do with ronnie musically. Christie Moore and Shane McGowan have a right to sing in this song, but fuck bono.

  • Perfectly put Evandavid666

  • rest in peace my dear and great friend. Alessio Italy

  • "If your not Irish, that isn't your fault!" lol brilliant song

  • I hope god is good 2 Ronnie, he was and still is my idol. from the bottom of my heart ronnie i love u and i hope ur spoilt in heaven. i love who ever came up with this song

  • u love bonno then, and most of them doin this song...

n i must 2nd your idolism to ronnie drew, he really was and always will be a legend in Ireland Rest in Peace Ronnie

  • Fuckin great men and mucisians (or how it is written), Bono, Ronnie and Shawn respect from Iceland

  • luv this song!!

  • love the end were glen hansard was in the airport and couldn't make it back in time so he recorded it singing on his mobile phone

  • your the one suggesting you wished to fuck somebody, not me.

I thought school holidays finished last week..

  • God, they should ban kids from posting crap on youtube...

This is a song written and sung by people who knew and respected Ronnie. Who cares who sung 44 words and who sung 45? It is the meaning behind the song that is important.

Unbelieveable the shit people write without thinking.

  • Bring it on if you think you got what it takes little one.

Oh, thats right, 40ft wide and titanium strong only happens on the interweb... Go away fool.

  • who automatically assumes an insult is the subject of violent fantasia and threats??

  • You guys are a bunch of losers, Bono is amazing and was a long time friend of Ronnie's if you hadn't noticed.

  • i hate U too

    lol

    U2 r fuckin class

  • well fuckin said mate

  • Ronnie Drew was my hero and i was supposed to be meeting him just after the late late show thing but i was on holidays at that time. If i had the choice to change my decision i would've! Ronnie drew RIP, you and the others saved Ireland, for once i agree with Bono, Its not Parnell that was the uncrowned King of Ireland it was Ronnie! Ronnie will be missed by the generations his music created! Long live Irish Culture!

  • Glen Hansard....... He was getting his oscar at the time of recording....... RIP Ronnie

  • tmob777 ronnie drew was a brilliant singer and der wil never be another ronnie drew so shut the fuck up if u have nothing nice to say about the king of ireland

  • who is the singer at the last part, singing shane's part?

  • hey can anyone give me a lineup of the singers and order they sing in this song? i love the lineup i think its amazing

  • Pay ur freaking respects to the mightiest voice there ever was. He made the lord almighty sound small

  • Bono, chorus, Shane Macgowan, Christy Moore, chorus, all of them (bono is louder though), Damien Dempsey, Bono again joined by Sinead O'Connor, chorus

  • thanks so much

  • I agree with LongRange, bono should have given up the spotlight

    RIP Ronnie Drea

  • God Bless Ronnie Drew, the true king of Ireland!

  • Ronnie Drew wasn't a great singer but the best. Ronnie You Didn't Sing Songs You Told STORIES RIP RONNIE DREW

  • if you appreciate the man enough, and if he made a difference in your life, especially at a young age, the song sounds very, very good. or rather, it makes you feel sad, but in a good way, because other people loved him, and other peoples lives were changed by him, even the greatest musicians in the world were effected by him, and they are repaying him.

  • Great man. Shite song.

  • Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam...

  • R.I.P Ronnie Drew!

    <3

  • Ronnie is a legend.

This is a good song, but it has a little too much bono in it, it would be nice to have seen more of the other singers too.

  • yeah, more singers like moore, and macgowan, who actually played the same style of music as drew did. spider stacy woulda been good thrown in there.

Kirsty MacColl woulda also been sweet if she were still living

  • the balleds were going stale in the clouds....it the first album ill be getting when i join you......you n luke two pints and an audience...what more do you want..... a true irsh world great....you have and always touch the heart of the people....i had the pleasure of speaking and singing with you...... them rare auld times are gone now...... ronnie rip my friend.........

  • look up dublin in the dictonary and you will see rons face ,as an englishman he made the peace progress move on through his wonderful lyrics and gave me an understanding of the troubles, god bless england and ireland, most of all god bless you ronnie, always a place in my heart.say hello to luke

  • nicely said

  • Fantastic tribute to a great man.

  • The world has lost one of its one and only greats, a man knows that he has made it when shane macgowan is singing a tribute to him! And i agree with lennnukass that heaven is a happier place now that ronnie and luke are there singing together! Cliche i know, but he does deserve to rest in peace, god bless

  • Great tribute to a great musician.

  • RIP Ronnie u will always have a place in my heart

  • Rest In Peace Ronnie, the Lord has regained another of his greatest balladeers.

  • Gone to join Bobby, Ciaron and Luke. I bet there's some rare auld tunes blasting out in Heaven now :-) RIP Ronnie

  • Great ronnie drew.

Such a beautiful song. And always all thoughts to my person. Which gives it more.

  • Great, great ronnie drew! I love Dubliners!!!

  • Love It Go On Damo...

  • love this song ,go on ronnie ya good thing.who is the guy that sings after the upbeat and bono , got a really strong dub accent around the 3:10 min of song

  • damien dempsey

  • tnk u

  • Damien Dempsey

  • I don't care for Bono, but it's a catchy song.

  • why dont u like bono? is it his preaching or just u2? just wondering as i love the guy and think he is a great for ireland but respect everyones view.

  • Really nice song!

  • heres to you ronnie drew, up the irish.

  • Ronnie, your the man!! all the way, thanks for your singing and music, we all love your gift.

  • very beautiful and nice!voice from heaven!!!

  • and for the bono bashers who say he features too much in this very irish single i say feck To all the bono bashers posting bile filled comments on all the versions of this on youtube. feck off ye ejits, its for a cancer charity and the biggest profile there is bono. Therefore as the biggest draw and for most international sales would it not make sense to put the biggest foot first?

  • I agree...im a huge bono fan...but i kind of think they should have split the verses evenly...but that doesnt mean everyone has to go around bashing on bono. and he probably is the most well known out of this group of amazing singers, but it has nothing to do with talent or anything like that theres probably a reason he sang the most and its probably not stupid

  • Everyone forgot that it was his idea for this fecking grand song

  • I'm really starting to attach to this song :D

  • can you download this on limewire???love to have this song its class!!or where can you get it??

  • I can upload it to U2Torrents if you want

  • WHAT A TWAT ......take your Brittania and shove it up your h*le...Good man

  • You'd know all about west brits. West Cork twat....

  • It's for a very worthy cause, best of luck to Ronnie. The song, however, is complete shhhiit and an embarressment to the country. Look at all the hangers on....muppets. rule brittania.

  • Ronnie - God there is a voice from heaven :)

  • If you're not Irish, that isn't your fault!

  • I love this song, full of inpiration for a great irish man, the selected voices are awesome it demonstrates how love and respect feel the irish musicians and irish people to Ronnie Drew blessed be.

    Regards from Bolivia.

  • nice one bono

  • a boy damo
