What a brilliant song, which like the rest of the album is a bitter-sweet commentary on the English and their often misplaced nostalgia for the good old days and unease with the way the world about them has changed. The best thing for me is that Davies doesnt detach himself from this mindset. He identifies himself in the lyrics with the tangled mindset he is describing.

Either way its still an example of Pete's classic wit - others include making a smart remark to a russian soldier about thier president whilst stopping off on the way to a tour, resulting in him getting escorted back onto the plane at gunpoint. :( oops!
