  • This is from the second best Album they ever did!

  • hahahahah, this is gay.

  • This is the best.

  • Paul McCartney was with them in spirit

  • @TheMuffinSamurai

What does Paul McCartney have to do with this. I love the Beatles, but the Kinks were a completely different animal.

  • this should be the theme song for Facebook

  • There was always something backward about the way they looked forward... backward... and behind.

  • is that paul i see in the background?

  • I. LOVE. THIS. makes me happy and sad all at once.

  • This is one of a few weak songs on the album -which is otherwise BRILLIANT. I would rank it as high as Sgt Pepper if it wasn't for these few weak songs.

  • @PicnicHikeMusic

now I know you are an idiot if you think this undeniably catchy and wistful song, along with the brilliant Walter are weak songs

  • @PicnicHikeMusic

Your argument is what is weak Pic. This is a great song!

  • Nicely undercuts the nostalgia and the desire to preserve expressed in the title track. Notice musical and thematic parallels to "Scattered," the closing track on Phobia.

  • i love this song

  • The best song on that great album, and I love this picture!

  • People take pictures of each other,

Just to prove that they really existed,

Just to prove that they really existed.

People take pictures of each other,

And the moment to last them for ever,

Of the time when they mattered to someone.

All the more relevant in the age of digital cameras and Facebook.

  • this sounds like somethin syd barrett couldve came up with in the early pink floyd days. good shit

  • @BeLiketheSquerrl yea except way better

  • Amazing song! I just love it!!!!!

  • Buying the albm now.

  • lol the fuckin' picture of mccartney in the background

  • hahahahaha shaking his fist at it. or maybe hes doing the universal gesture 4 wanker.

  • What a brilliant song, which like the rest of the album is a bitter-sweet commentary on the English and their often misplaced nostalgia for the good old days and unease with the way the world about them has changed. The best thing for me is that Davies doesnt detach himself from this mindset. He identifies himself in the lyrics with the tangled mindset he is describing.

  • fav kinks song : )

  • i've always thought these lyrics were absolutely brilliant

  • i'm completely agree with you.

  • umm don't show me no more please is the best heart braking line ever is so happy but is so dark like darkness hidden behind the tune wow :)

  • I played this album to death back in '69...I know it wasn't a commercial success, but I did my part -- I bought two of 'em...

very under-rated band...too bad Pete Quaife is still bitter (evidently)...

    K e v

  • Agreed, and some of the songs here are the most deep, especially in their lyrics. Amazing songs

  • @kevirwin haha...me too. I wore my first one out on my cheap record player.

  • is that a beatles pic in the background?

  • Haha yeah

  • It looks like Pete Quaife either wants to punch McCartney or show him he's the man.

Either way its still an example of Pete's classic wit - others include making a smart remark to a russian soldier about thier president whilst stopping off on the way to a tour, resulting in him getting escorted back onto the plane at gunpoint. :( oops!

  • Hell no

  • Dude i bought an mp3 player with this song on it. I love it. I didnt know who they were tho. I like animal farm too

  • The KInks were an amazing album band that were under rated, up there with the Beatles, the Who and the Stones.

  • and mccartney on the wall...hahaha

  • Maybe but the Beatles never made an album that rocked as much as the kinks did on the album ARTHUR.

  • Ray mentioned in his autobiography that the band thought John Dalton resembled Paul McCartney, and used to refer to McCartney by a rude nickname that I cannot repeat here!

  • sbarr10

I always thought Pete looked like Bob Dylan more so than John looking like Paul. Even still he has similar facial expressions lol.

  • A terrific song I'd forgotten completely. A fave now.

  • sqibblejack takes pictures of people.||||

  • its also on a sony ericsson ad in mexico.

  • great song, great lyrics, great sound.

  • hey skank, stop polluting these great songs

  • the lalala part freaked me out as they sounded like singing toads.

  • God Save The KinKs !! One of their best....even better than 'Picture Book', although 'Picture Book' has been in my heed every day since I first got 'Village Green Pres. Society' in the 1980's !! Both sons are infectious and brilliant.

  • This song should have been used as a follow up to in the HP commercial using "Picture Book".

  • It is used on a cool British ad for Sony Ericsson mobile phones, just a few months ago

  • too infectious this song...

  • Hey please stop insulting people. If you dont like Kinks dont listen to them :)

  • even though you obviously only commented to start a flame war, I should point out that this laid out the boundaries for punk. It's also one of the greatest albums of all time (certainly in my top 200)

  • Try spelling the guy's name right u punk twat!Kinks rule.

  • what an idiot you are...the Kinks invented punk, and Cobain was a big fan

  • this song is like a myspace/facebook/livejournal/flickr anthem.

  • don't show me no more please

    <3

  • I've got a new fav song ;)

  • Fabby song :D

  • Happy song!

  • don't touch my sony ericsson!!

  • The Village Green Preservation Society is easily one of the all-time great records.

  • I think each one of the tracks on "Village green preservation society" could be subjects for commercials. These tunes are so catchy!

  • They just don't make music like this anymore

    =(

  • Love it! Does anyone knows where to download this song?

god i wish i was alive in the 60s. shame i had to be born in 1995 oh wel...
