Just changed my quattroporte for a Granturismo S, believe me, the GTS is a million times better and space in largely enough for four adults. Thank God I got rid of my quattroporte. This is a missile and the noise is better than any other car on the road. Believe me, when you rive such a car, you put porsche owners to shame on the road
While getting into and out of a coupe will never be as graceful as a saloon/sedan, the GranTurismo makes it as graceful as can be. When you tilt forward the seatbacks the seats slide forward electrically to offer the most room possible to enter and exit the rear seats. Once seated there is ample room back there for all except the tallest persons.
Remember, this was a TEST drive so the plan was to experience as many facets of the GT-S as possible. Plus, the roads were busy and at times really busy so trying auto mode was justified.
You're into Mini Coopers, right? If you were a car salesman working at Mini would you take a customer in the new JCW and tell them lets put it into auto mode? I'm just saying that Maserati created the "S" model for those who want to be engaged in their driving, an interactive experience, just like the experience of a base Cooper vs. the JCW. Does the average JCW driver wish they offered the car in an automatic version, I doubt it.
Yes, I'm into MINIs, BMWs, Ferraris (a certain Ferrari F355 Spider with Tubi pipes in particular), Maseratis, and peformance vehicles and motorcycles in general. I've got some track time under the belt.
No, I wouldn't want a JCW with an auto. My modified JCW wouldn't approve either.
I hear ya about the S appealing to a certain type of driver (I think I fit that description, hence the invitation to drive the car), and the salesman didn't need to worry about "selling" the car to me... ;-)
You are being harsh on the salesman. He's a nice guy and knows a lot about the car. I spliced the video to make it shorter and left out a lot of the talking. Why auto at all???? Because it's a feature of the car! I've experienced the GranTurismo and wanted to compare the ZF auto transmission with the GT-S.
Most of the drive was in full manual in "Sport" mode until the very end when we were stuck in Beverly Hills traffic. I reverted to auto but kept Sport mode on to listen to the engine.
I'm sure he's a nice guy, any salesman that lets you drive their exotics are "nice guys". I've never was a car salesman in my life, but I think the way he is "selling" the car is wrong based on that edited footage.
The sales rep at Maserati North America should tell this guy not to promote the auto in this car so much. Once you get back in the city he tells you to put it into auto, the whole character of the car is changed in auto, the "S" model is about being in control, not having the shifts done for you.
The key to success in selling this car is promoting it to the right customer and that 99% of the time won't be the same guy who buys the regular GranTurismo, the "S" customer is a totally different person, why in the heck would the salesman even bring up auto. This salesman sounds like he just read the brochure and just reeling off stats. This car is about passion and the regular Granturismo is about confortable driving. Its like preferring a yacht over a speedboat.
Conserve fuel?? What kind of comment is that?? Conserve fuel and Maserati don't go together. And whats with the dealer saying go into auto. If you want to own an "S" you should never have it in auto. You should be ripping the hell out of it. The best damn exhaust out there, let people hear it.
guess the ZF doesn't jerks like the E-gear
