  • wunderschön

  • This song is the absolute template for soooo much of what happened in the '80s. Truly visionary.

  • This is what Bowie was trying to do from 1976-1978, but Ultravox did it better and with more heart and soul. The pity of it was nobody bought the records and that was the end of that! The influence was enormous, but all to late for this line up of the band. All three Foxx/Ultravox albums are very good and very influential, but they were not punks and they were too early to be new wave or new romantics. They ran out of money and had no success, without them the early 80's sounds very different!

  • Awesome !

  • great song i havnt heard for ages ,thanks.

  • john foxx,,,

  • the sound of the future.

  • They should have been massive.

  • bassest bass ever

  • que genio !!!

  • Great fuckin band.

  • I just wanna say that it is possible to like both incarnations of the group, and that you don't have to hate the Midge era to like the Foxx years and vice versa....some commenters here and elsewhere would beg to differ on that, but sod them. :)

  • @ProjectFlashlight612 dead right bro

  • nice attempt by Danzig1777 with that comment above but learn to spell especially since creative "smarts" is what something like this is all about....though i don't expect many thumbs from this public since so many seem to have no fucking idea what i'm talking about.

  • Supreme Classic!

  • These song is a milestone in electronic music history.

    Thanks Ultravox.

  • Foxx here looks like a mix of Ian Curtis and Heroes era Bowie. Very cool.

  • I HOPE THE BAND S OF TODAY WOUOLD HEAR ULTRAVOX, THEY MIGHT PRODUCE SOME LISTENABLE ROCK AND ROLL INSTEAD OF THE COMPUTER GENERATED MUSIC OF THE NON MUSICIANS OF TODAY/DANZIG777??....GREAT BAND ,,SAW THEM.S.F. IN 1978, OPENING BAND WAS CRIME , AND THEY SMOKED, ULVOX HAD A JOB TO FOLLOW , BUT HANDLED THINGS IN THEIR OWN UNIQUE ROCK'N FASHION..TRIVIA..UVOX IS ONE OF 3 BANDS CRIME FROM S.F. OPENED FOR IN THEIR ROCK WAVE HISTORY, THE OTHER , THE DAMNED AND THE RAMONES.........

  • @dillingerbraineater I was there, damn I loved this band.

  • @alfalfa19 i was there too bruv and i loved this band back in the day !! god im getting old !!

  • @dillingerbraineater was it at the geary theater, or the mabuhay? I forget.

  • Bought this album 1978, sounds as good now as it did then, timeless. 49 year old going on 16 again....

  • This is what I loved about the 70's Punk scene, it was capable of accepting many different musical directions at once, I remember when their 1st LP was considered one of 77's finest punk LP's because of how diverse it was. They werent the only band around then to use Electronic instruments but they were one of the best and were more than capable of a good '1.2.3.4' tune as well.

This wouldnt get a look in from many 'new' punks but to me its still total punk.

  • I saw them at the Marquee in London summer 1978 just before System Of Romance they blew my mind... glorious times

  • Our kid (Robin Simon) on guitar, hes cuurently working with AjantaMusic /watch?v=bY_WPqWgxSw

  • 1977! 34 YEARS AGO! But it's more original and far fresher than anything from summer 2011! Is that Stevie Shears with the blond haircut at 2:26? Look at that and then cry at the beautiful lyrics.

    Thanks for sharing!

  • @evilrobottolhurst No, that's Robin Simon. He joined the band for Systems of Romance, then after Ultravox mk1 split he went on to join Howard Devoto's Magazine.

  • @1986uno45s Thank you! I really know NOTHING about Ultravox! John was interviewed by Radcliffe and Maconie today (Listen Again until 6/2/12) w w w bbc(dot)co(dot)uk/iplayer/console/b01bf54y - type "John Foxx" into FB for his FB page and this is his site: w w w metamatic(dot)com - as John Foxx and the Maths, he is playing in Brighton on 24/2/12 and Belgium on 25/2/12.

  • Dio, che brividi.

  • He looks very much like Rob Lowe in this vid, doesn't he? Jammy git!

  • john foxx genius,i love this

  • Beautiful! I could listen to John Foxx until the end of time & never get bored. . .

  • It was a different band with Midge Ure. He also had a go at Numan. For "copying" a band that he wasnt even a part of at the time. What I would really like to see would be Numan and Foxx together singing Slow Motion followed by We are Glass. That would be some duet.

  • John Foxx at his best. Sends shivers down my spine every time I hear it.

  • its not elitism only preference personally i thought the later incarnation were not as interesting this had more style

  • 1977 this could be 2077 one of my best songs .

  • sorry for being an elitist then

  • Never gets old, never gets boring.

  • Billy Currie is a hell of a Keyboard and Violin Player. Who said no one can make "Rock & Roll " with a synthesizer?

  • he is similar to this a ha singer

  • this is unbelievable

  • brilliant....

  • Muy bueno

  • AWESOME

  • Absolutely love it when the bass kicks in - fantastic...

  • one of the greatest songs ever done

  • john foxx creo su sonido

  • luv this song! like a supa roxy music! happy bday w.cann. also nice TR-77 drumbox. live drums and bass wow!

  • john fox=ultravox

  • the big ship from eno's anther green wrld is xtrmly similar in form. prhps he influenced this, produced their 1st album so...

  • man they got the most outta those analog synths maybe better than roxy or kraftwerk...more on par w/ prog rock lads. total bridge to the next world of new wave. not glitter/glam nor punk and 2 early to be the new wave. shoulda own it all if foxx didn't leave. lets blame bowie.

  • Such good use of such a basic snyth....Curries the man!

  • They used to be called Tiger Lily and I sold them hundreds of acid trips in Oxford in '77 - makes sense, duosent it..!

  • WHEN JF LEFT AND MANURE ARRIVED THE REAL ULTRAVOX HAD FINISHED

  • like a punk Roxy

  • @headofapollo

Funny you should say that - Brian Ferry did a song called Hiroshima, and very good it is too.

  • those were the days when anything could happen

  • Sure that is Robin Simon on guitar - also played on Play for Magazine - class is permanent!

  • i was a big ultravox fan but never knew of this track (1977 was slightly before my time and despite being a big fan later i have to admit to buying shaddap ya face and stopping vienna making top spot) until the church covered it on box of birds album - check out covers of silver machine, cortez the killer and all the young dudes.

  • I bet if John Foxx was 30-35 years younger, and released this song it would be a big hit in the modern day charts. Undiscovered and timeless!...

  • one of the greatest tunes ever.

  • spot on Danzig ! these new twats of today that sound like bad 80's garbage !! funny thing, they think this is what they're doing , but they miss by a billion miles !! keep 'em away from- U L T R A V O X !!!!

  • This was a bad live-recording !

The guys where great live and took over where Roxy ended

    the more interesting music !

Sad that the original set in the band lived so shortly !!!

  • Ultravox without John Foxx, were like Genesis without Peter Gabriel...slipping into a world of blandness...

  • @feeklestng I fully agree with you.

  • @feeklestng

I don't believe you or others like you have listened to the Midge Ure era of Ultravox. The first four albums, "Vienna," "Rage In Eden," "Quartet," and "Lament" were anything but bland and were just as innovative and influential as anything from the three John Foxx era albums. I'm growing increasingly sick of the elitists.

  • John Foxx! then came Midge Ure, but thank goodness that happened

  • @TrainmasterCurt You know opinions is like butt-holes, everyone has one !!!

  • Actually, this performance is from 1978.

  • This was the REAL Ultravox.

  • Everyone else was doing garage and punk. These guys anticipated the 80's. And no that was not such a bad thing at all. Saw them live at the time, but I failed to notice that something different was happening.

  • I had the extreme pleasure of driving John around Boston in 1977 when Ultravox played there.

  • LOVE THE SONG!!!!! <3

  • Kandinsky meets Raffaello Sanzio

  • Great Vid! Thanks!!

  • Communicate like distant stars.....

  • John FOXX: UN GENIO !

  • @FranciscoDeOroseY John Foxx-Siouxsie Sioux-Julian Cope

  • @FranciscoDeOroseY E vero! Italia mon amour!

  • Changed my life ! Musical and social ! Allways thankful for that !

  • I saw Ultravox about this time at the Marquee in London, they were unreal and awesome, like from somewhere else.

  • Its too complicated for the halfwits these days they will just sample em to death lol

  • Awesome sound - somehow I don't think Pussycat Dolls fans would like this.

  • just blew me away at the time

  • sick bass on this track

  • I agree with Danzig1777!!!

  • amazing sound and i hope the talentless musicians of today dont get there hands on early Ultravox

  • @Danzig1777 They will eventually. I hear Lady Gaga a-callin' right now!

  • @Danzig1777 too late... I've got my hands on them! hehe sorry pal
