It's really inappropriate having Michael come on and speak about humility in magic. If one watches Michael's act the patter is actually quite arrogant. As an example his cups & balls routine where he says "watch me work" as he goes into a false transfer routine. Don't get me wrong, Michael is very nice guy when you meet him at the Circle, but his act does leave something to be desired which is why I don't think he has scaled the heights he should have done despite being an excellent technician.
@eevil123 So do you think Michael's line "Watch me work" (2:38 on his YT C and B vid) is an example of humble patter eg Kaps/Wonder or an example of arrogant patter.
Noone likes an arrogant magician and that's how Vincent's C and B act comes across.
The dancing cork is done with Invisible thread - very fine nylon from his shoulder to his finger tips with the cork suspended. The ring starts on his arm and goes over his hand and right round the thread. That's why he starts with the rings on his arm (weird position) and not with the ring on the table!
@CaraBrimleyRules Also why doesn't he start with the ring on the table? He could have done so but Fred was always into economy of motion and also if it had been on the table then people would think that some how something in the table had magnatized the ring etc..,,, Would still have been wrong of course but obviously people that don't know how something works will grasp at just about anything to make it look like they do know how it works.
@RS1963 He doesn't start with the ring on the table because it would snag the hook up. Anyway, everyone knows this is done now using INVISIBLE THREAD not magnets. It's a fine nylon wire commonly used by magicians to levitate small light objects or in PK effects. Why does he use a cork - because it is light and can be supported by the thread. He doesn't perform the floating lead fishing weight for example!!

@CaraBrimleyRules He could have done it with the ring being on the table. The late Terry Rogers used the exact same set up as Kaps did but Terry took the ring out of her/ his take your pick, purse and then passed the ring over the cork etc.. That caught other magicians by surprise for quite some time. So it would have been very easy for Fred to have had the ring on the table. But it was not to his liking to do so.
@JohnnySilver78 What is the problem. I am helping magic students with the methods to the effect so they can decide if they want to study it further or if it suits their performance conditions.
@CaraBrimleyRules that is non-sense. Its called exposure. Some of us make a living from doing this stuff, and people like you giving away the secrets doesnt help. If youre helping students PM them! Dont run your mouth in front of everyone for the world to read. This apparently happens with you alot judging by the comments on your page. And for the record he could start with the ring on the table.
@JohnnySilver78 Look, one thing you have to realise is that only magicians & magic students read these comments here. Modern day audiences would not know who Kaps is. Just take a look at the comments, they are all by magicians. Hahaha, wake up & smell the coffee. I am famous for helping students out with their effects. I am also (in)famous on the magicafe, & one of my other personas on the cafe is a respected member with over 800 posts. Exposure is a non issue. Presentation is the real secret.
@CaraBrimleyRules you are famous,LOL! ya ok. Over 800 posts? thats just means you talk alot. This video is called Heros of Magic and yes, normal people are watching this. You mean to tell me that all 35,000 of these viewers were magicians? I doubt if you have the years or performing experience to be a teacher. If you had respect for magic, do you think Kaps would appreciate you telling everyone the method? Even magicians are to buy the secret, then decide if they like it or not.
@JohnnySilver78 Not all the viewers are commenters; I said the people who take the time to read and write the comments are all magicians. Just look at the comments and you will see it. I don't really care what Kaps would think. He was old school, the net was not around in his day. Basically it is wrong that magicians have to buy to find the method... a lot of crap has been mis-sold like this with no refunds. I am telling students this is done via invisible thread hook up for free. Nobody pays!
@JohnnySilver78 Nice speaking to you Johnny. The art wont be destroyed. When books came out, they said it would destroy magic. The same about TV. The same about the internet, Actually, magic is thriving more than ever due to educators like me. Good luck with your magic!
@CaraBrimleyRules My original response just a few mins ago was due to having another effect on my mind. But you do not have the correct set up in fact the way you are describing wouldn't even give the motion that the cork has it would not even look like it does here. It would look like crap being set up the way you say. Fred's method is still on the market and worth every cent to find out the true work. I hope you never do find out the exact set up as the worth of it will be lost on you.
@eevil123 Michel Vincent is rubbish. He's cocky and boring ... and example of how not to do magic. Just look at his cups and balls patter "The staff of Jacob"... hahaha noboody calls it that. "Now watch me work"... arrogant praise of his own sleights (which are very average). He's the sort of act that makes people want to switch over when a magician comes on.
As for Kaps... very old fashioned, I prefer Penn and Teller.
@TheStreetMagician3 - It was Marvin Hamlish ripping of Scott Joblin. This song is called "The Entertainer." Look up "The Maple St. Rag" and see if there isn't WAY to much similarity there.
what a fabulous show ... i was watching it and was amazed to discover that the routining on this one is just perfect ... he genuinely knows what will entertain the audience.
and what mr. michael vincent said is just too good
Everything about his handling is terrific. The double take, the calmness of his movements. This is a lesson for those that move fast. If you make your moves flow, the audience doesn't catch as easily. Believe it or not, the audience thinks you have fast hands when you move slowly.
@mtpascoe - Henry Hay said that about Tommy Nelson Downs. Henry and Tommy both did magic for a neighbor, the neighbor said to Henry; "You're good, but you're not as fast as Tommy." Henry responded; "The reason he's so good is that he's slow, not fast." Tommy said; "Never tell them you're slow, let them think you're fast."
Brilliant handling of the homing card. Would be great as a close-up trick. This is better than the clip on the Ed Sullivan show because you can see the faces of the cards. At first, I didn't know what he was doing. It kind of looked like you was screwing up. I hope the audience at the time didn't think so either.
@mtpascoe - I have the Ed Sullivan show (it's on a collection of Beatles appearances) and I felt the audience didn't realize the card was supposed to be coming back. They weren't laughing because they thought he was really messing it up!

@CaraBrimleyRules That isn't even close to the set up. It is much simpler and better than that. Again you no nothing of what you proclaim.
