  • So I am trying to use the pencil tool and I am having trouble. In your video it seems like your pencil tool works like a brush. As in, it immediately sketches the line as you sketch. My pencil tool continues to wait until I lift my pen before it draws the line. Is that how it is working in this video and I just cant tell?

  • @Cornbreadv2 Ok lol I realized that that is how it is working for you too. Thank you. This tutorial saved my noobish self.

  • Nvm, I see that your using a tablet. What tablet would you recomend under 100$? Im looking on ebay and they got all kinds

  • @buzzdown69 Get a Wacom bamboo fun. Those are great. I still use mine, had it for like 4 years straight.

  • How are you drawing so smoothy? Im guessing your not using a mouse lol, so what exactly are you using?

  • @buzzdown69

he is using a tablet :)

  • I followed your tutorial that you posted above about drawing freely on illustrator, but I still can not "naturally" draw, Opacity is not effecting the pencil for some reason, and there is no pressure sensitivity, I can't find a website that explains this.. Help, please?

  • @DavinDaGeek Do you happen to know Bukcy Roberts? You have similar tutorial styles lol

  • great video man but u really need a new intro :)

  • one more subsriber ... :D

  • @m0ret0n2021 I'm using a WacomBamboo fun.

  • can i do that in photoshop?

  • @TheTremor209 Yes.

  • @DavinDaGeek really can I? even the pencil fill?

  • thanks for your service

  • heya thats reall good whats better? i just got a tablet i find it harder than drawing on paper . cuz im good at drawing on paper is it better drawing it on paper than scanning it to the computer and then editing it here ? pm me for help plz keep up the good work bro ^___^ subbed u

  • @AfterEffectsLova I actually just made a video on that xD watch it here. /watch?v=BYYVZeRF5uw&feature=channel_video_title

  • @DavinDaGeek

    what link is that?

  • Great video but the only thing i would say is that you could really cut through a lot of stuff. It's cool to watch you draw the dog but I don't really need to see the whole thing. If you could fast forward some of that kinda stuff that would be great. Anyway, great stuff and I will be subscribing.

  • Nice one, Davinda, cheers!

  • how long did it take you to get use to drawing with a tablet and do you have any suggestions for better pen control. I have a wacom tablet as well, but i have had trouble with keeping the pressure consistently light.

  • help me alot ? gooood job man;]

  • davin do you use a tablet or a mouse? Please reply i dont know if i should spend money on the tablet.

  • @iMerXz Yes I do use a tablet, and you can get very affordable ones out on the market, just make sure it's a Wacom.

  • @DavinDaGeek Thank you very much.

  • @DavinDaGeek

Hey I just discovered your channel. It looks good. I got a question what are some of the differences between illustrator and photoshop? What you can do in illustrator is the sme thing you can do in photoshop, right?

  • i love ur stuff so im going to subscribe

  • @QucciMaMa Thank you very much :D.

  • how u drawin so gud wid d mouse?? or u using a tablet to draw???

  • I just love how instead of being serious, you're sort of playing around, making those silly noises, and how instead of shunning your auditions, you keep trying to keep them interested. OMG, I just love you now~!

  • Hey, remember anyone named Oxnard? ;3

This is a neat tutorial! :D It randomly showed up as recommended for me. X3 And I have just a quick question. Whenever I use the pencil tool in Illustrator, it works a little differently from yours. It automatically creates a path once I pick up my pen after drawing a line, and then when I try to draw another line near it, the first line'll disappear. X3 I can't just sketch out something like this in Illustrator like I can in Photoshop. ;O; Any advise?

  • @NishiOxnard Lmao I would never forget you oxnard, how have you been dude? :D and lol yeah I get this question a lot on these vids, well all you have to do is double click on the pencil icon and uncheck a box that says something like auto select. That will fix your problem. Hope this helps.

  • @DavinDaGeek Aaaah yay!! :D That fixed it, thank you so much! I've always wanted to draw vector things but I always had that problem. X3 I finished college and I have to help produce designs and stuff for my job, so I like watching videos like this and learnin' a bit more than I do! I'm glad you're still doin' kick butt stuff and hope things're goin' well for ya too. (:

  • If your having trouble, as I did, with the pencil tool, simply double click it to bring up the pencil properties dialog. My problem was the 'Keep Selected' property. After unchecking it I am now able to draw with flow, as Davin did.

  • Hey good job, am kind behind of this... But you did great! wayne is a good caracter plus the story. Nice tutorial too...

  • I have a monitor hook to my laptop and a wacom tablet, how to set my tablet to just one screen (just the laptop) without unplugging my monitor

  • what screen recording software you are using?

  • I found your tutorial! I had never been taught about the skeletal, then inking, etc. process. I draw and have already gotten used to using adobe software, but I never used it for drawing myself, only tracing. I'm definitely going to study your tutorials. Question: Did you start off drawing (in general) by practicing basic shapes? I'm practicing this so that's why I ask.

  • @PrinstEgo Thanks, and well I do draw basic shapes when I draw. It's what most artist do. The more you draw the more shortcuts you will learn and teach your self.

  • @DavinDaGeek Hi, how do I make my pencil strokes look like yours, because mine just look plain and not sketched..im completely new at this

  • @21allstar10 Double click on the pencil tool and uncheck something that say auto select, then you can draw with it.

  • ´this might be a dumb , but i really want to know how u get that yellow circle that follows your tools as u draw and all. what i have tho check to have that circle?

  • @pesapaisa It's a part of my screen recording program. Ir will make a yellow circle around your mouse when you record.

  • Hey bro, whats up, so i watched your video, and i was wondering if you were using an AutoCad tablet to draw the character, because its difficult using the mouse.

  • @LRComdey Wacom bamboo fun tablet.

  • This program is increadibly powerful. I like that you don't need to be the best drawer to produce something that is still high quality. Great tutorial

  • Amazing

  • tx Davin. traditional old school cel animator, trying to sponge this up. look fwd to your tutorials.

  • you have such a steady hand...smh... =)

  • thanks man for the effort you rock my world...

  • thanks man for the effort you rock my world...

  • Actually the layout of youtube have changed you should be pointing down wards for description.

  • @imranbug81 Done and done.

  • When im drawing with the pencil im allways getting theese []----[]-----[] on my drawings and its fricking irritating to get that when im doing sketches =/ How did u get ridd off yours? Btw awsome tutorial

  • @Sx3apan Those are called selection lines. You'll have to double click on the pencil icon and uncheck auto select in the box, and there you have it.

  • @DavinDaGeek Thanks man! :)

  • Ok, I got to your 1st video. I know little about illustrator... so I would appreciate your small help.

How do I use the pen tool to sketch like u do? in illustrator the pen tool draws the paths with anchors and enpoints, so I can't really sketch ( like in photoshop) cause the line changes.

    thanks

  • @andrei321 I have the same problem...

  • Did you use a tablet for this drawing?

  • @KAONABO08 In this video yes I did use a tablet.

  • how do you make the characters look good using a mouse?

  • @SmileyNerd101 Check out my toon block playlist, I use nothing but mouse when I fix them up, I have a video that is about 41 minutes long, I think that one might really be of some help to you.

  • Davin, i'm a graphical designer with 3 years of education, and 2 years of amateur experience. What would you say is the best skills to pickup, both within the illustrator software, and in general?

  • @gottmospahedengubbar Well for me the best skill to pick up is learning how to use layers, pen tool and filters. These are just a few things that I think are essential to learn when dealing with these forms of programs, they might sound simple however used correctly they can make all the difference in the world.

  • U are graet, where's that subscribe button ?

  • me and my friend are working on making a game in flash cs5 and the main character is going to be a cube so would it be relativley simple to do? for creating a model and importing him in flash?

  • do you use a mouse or like a drawings tablet?

  • @SentinelCrisis I do own a Bamboo small tablet, and I used it to sketch the character's barebone layer, then I used my mouse to create the lineart.

  • i love you already. :">

    awesome tutorial.

i'd donate if i had money. XD

  • i need some video tutorials for AI..,hope u can help me.

    thanx davin..

  • but I cannot draw, too bad for me.......... I also want to make my characters

  • @yuenengfanhua It comes down to practice, and there is no real way of drawing. You can draw however you like.

  • To use this software i have to own a touchscreen monitor or can i use the mouse? sorry bout dumb question im new on this. answer as soon as possible.

  • @xSiiKzTSiiNz No you don't need a touch screen, you can use a mouse if you want. I used a mouse to do my lineart, and no there is no such thing as a dumb question, and it was a good question if you ask me. =).

  • @xSiiKzTSiiNz Thanks man. I appreciate your help.

  • this tutorial was horrible, you just started drawing and not showing anything or explaining

  • @oli1 Uhh, did you watch all 4 parts of the video? Cause I'm pretty sure I explain what I'm doing in the videos, and I have like a ton of videos in my playlist where I explain everything to a Tee.

  • @DavinDaGeek no i stopped here. you just start drawing and i couldnt see what you were doing, and when i tried to draw like that, as soon as i drew a new line on top of the other to make it thick and sketchy it erased the other one

  • @oli1 Try double clicking on the pencil tool and uncheck the auto select option. That should fix the issue for you . If that doesn't help please make a video and show me your issue you are having.

  • @DavinDaGeek ok now it works. thanks

  • @oli1 No problem.

  • LMAO at 5:25.

Great drawing and vid by the way!

  • @WindowsErrorFixer lol xD thanks, =)

  • are you using a tablet pc or some kind of computer with a touch screen, because your drawing is really good. I can't sketch at all with my mouse.

  • @ sonicballer8888 Ahh yes, I'm using a Wacom BamBoo Fun small tablet. =D and thank you.

  • My pencil tool makes weird blue lines with blocks on them...

How do i get it normal?!?

    Nice vid btw

  • Just click on the pencil too twice, and uncheck the box that says, keep selected, that will fix the issue for you.

    and thanks =)

  • dude if ou type in how to get more time on youtube there are wayz around the ten miniute time limit even if u aint a partner jus thought id add tht cause seems like ur pissed off wid it respect to ur wrk aswell man u know ur stuff

  • @yoyobuck Yeah youtube gave me an experimental feature here that allowed me to upload videos longer than ten minutes for short while, but then they took it away, the only way I know to get longer videos, is to become a partner, But I'll look into it more to see if I can find something new on it.

and thank you very much =)

  • when you are drawing are you using just a mouse or a pad to draw on???

  • @sixtk1 I use a Wacom bamboo fun tablet =)

  • @DavinDaGeek

Yeeahh, I just bought mine a couple days ago and I'm watching your videos, finally I'm figuring out how to draw with this, been trying to wrap my head around it for awhile now, thanks dude ^_^

    watch?v=R6wg2-3LVxQ&feature=related

  • man I'm a PRO noob in adobe illustrator or photoshop....I just wanna make some cool wallpapers or images...logos etc...so i only know how to open photoshop illustrator n once its opened then im totally lost xD....I need special training to use these softwares but how to get them ?????

  • @ CLSAMG4eva Hey youtube is a great and wonderful place when it come to learning these tools. I know a guy name tutvid here on youtube, and he pretty much go over every tool in those programs.

  • he's epic lol, I use him too he taught me pretty much everything i know with photoshop, he also covers other programs like flash, dreamweaver, illustrator(ofc) nd just about every other program...he's pretty much just skipped the guru stage and gone to GOD status ^_^

  • hey davin, great vid. im tryin to learn all this digital arts myself but i jus dunno how to start. books do teach abt what each tool does and stuff but i jus dunno what image to start off to apply such tools. maybe you cld give me hand on wht to try out first in illustrator?i jus dun have any direction right now.

  • Yeah I know how it can be sometimes =) and well it all comes down to what's your Niche is gonna be, if you like Anime, then try your best to draw some really cool anime, or if you like American style cartoons, then make up some cartoons, it all comes down to your likings =D

  • Thanks davin, you got a strong point there. but if im more into life digi arts than cartoons. how do i go about? or do u still recommend i do cartoons first?

  • Oh, well you can pretty much start anywhere you want. If you start on life art now, you'll become more and more better at it. =) But learning cartoons can't hurt sometime.

  • yea im confused like offmertz I cant get the pencil tool to sketch that way. The blue lines are gone but it only shows when i let go of the left click. How can i get it to work continously?

  • @tjlittle87 You have to duble click on the penciltool in the tools try and then uncheck auto select strokes, that will remove it for you.

  • thanx dude....reeeeli helpful

  • thanks for all of these videos there really helpful. i'm considering buying a wacom bamboo fun pen and touch but i'd like to know if you are happy with your bamboo, as i'm still not sure.

    thanks

  • Thanks, and well it depends if you're very serous on getting into the digital arts, and if you are, well I say go out and get a medium Wacom Intuos, those are bigger and will give you more room to work on. I'm going to get a new tablet my self in a little bit, it might be a Intuos or a cintiq. However my bamboo fun lasted me for about four years now, and I love it, Never failed me once.

  • Thanks for the quick reply. I am starting to take graphic design / digital arts very seriously. But as you said your bamboo fun has lasted 4 years and hasn't let you down i will be getting one of them as i dont have the money for an intuos.

  • No problem. =)

  • idk how to get it to where its just sketching mine is making blue lines everywhere i go.. please help

  • What tool are you using? I'm using the pencil tool on this video. and I did make another pentool video that might can help you with fills and stroke issues. However if you're using the pencil tool like I am, then double click the pencil tool icon in the tools bar and uncheck the one that has the filling option and the auto select option, this should fix you issue my friend ;-3.

  • thanks pal you're the man. what it was is it had keep selected checked. i'm new to this so I'm not 100 percent sure what to do yet thanks man!

  • when you're drawing with the pencil at the start, are you doing it by mouse or by some other peripheral?

  • I'm using a Wacom Bamboo Fun small tablet. =)

  • ok thanks!

  • Thanks man.your videos and advices really help..=)

  • hey Davin, cool video man, very informative. question about the using Bamboo. Can you use it with any Adode. I have the Adobe CS, i dont know it its compatible. And can you pls. share what page format you had. how big and wide it is.

    Thanks man=)

  • @shreeved Yeah it will work with any of those programs, heck it can pretty much work with any art or photo program. and I do believe I used a Basic CMYK Document. My dimensions were 1280w by 780h or it could have been 720h.

  • You're ok with it, or are there any problems with it?

Because this is much more cheaper than for example this: Wacom Intuos 4.

Do you know the diffrents between them?

  • Yeah, I'm ok with it. I wish I had a bigger tablet at times, however I had this bamboofun for almost four years now. It was the only thing I could afford at the time. So from there I stuck with it. I do wish to get a wacom cintiq, but I don't have $1,000+ bucks to spend on one of those just at the moment.=( and yeah I know the differents between them =)

  • great!

can you tell me which type of drawing tablet do you use?

  • I use a Wacom bamboofun "small". =)

  • WOW! i check my inbox and bam! 4 new ddg vids. keep it up!

  • Lol sorry if I pushed any of your other subs off the list xP, I'll only post two every day only next time. and thanks.
