  • thumbs up if your watching this in 2012 with Reason 6 installed on your computer.

  • check out the song i made with reason 4.0 youtube.com/watch?v=7grofCZQVIM

thumbs up if you like it! thanks!

  • meh...ill stick to hardware

  • @dfuzz1114 +1

  • nice work check out my tunes i made on reason 4.

  • looks like a depressed will farrell :D

  • Check out our beats made with Reason on our channel

  • 2:44 is sweet

  • Thor is very powerful and flexible. Don't let the limited sound examples in this video fool ya.

  • anyone have a link to this refill?

  • damn, he played for so long on thor

  • haha, i thought the will farrel bit too

  • Funny toy, that's all about it...

  • This guy reminds me of Will Farrel at the beginning of the video. He should just break out into jokes.

  • LOL

  • ur a dick

  • i have a question... Is reason 4.0 only MIDI?

Like, I don't only want to record electronic stuff. Could i plug my guitar into my interface and then record straight to the program? like... cubase, or garageband.

  • If recording live guitar, vocals etc. are a first, dont use Reason. It's not an audio sequencer 'as such'.

Programs like Cubase, Logic, ProTools, Sonar, Digital Performer etc are much better choices. Because these programs can also use PlugIns of various formats, even an old Cubase 5.1 on Win98se can do AMAZING stuff. A lot like the things in Reason actually.

And since I began using SynthEdit to make VST plugins for Cubase, I'll never need something like Reason.

  • Im not trying to state that Reason is the best music software....each to their own...most of my music buddies prefer pro-logic..but as I have been using reason for 6 years now...I find it hard to adjust to new software...the only gripe I had with reason was their wasnt enough available patches without having to use refills....now with Reason 4 my wishes have been granted.Thor is as good as people say...try propellerheads website for some patches.

  • well I don't use thor that much, but I agree, everybody has its own programm, I recently was adding Fl studio to my production list, there is no good/bad program, remember madtracker? I know some people Who can make straight up 2pac beats with that,

I recently made a new vid

watch?v=TARxGpQF-MA Thor included, Reason recycle etc. leave a comment if u think its nice(or crap)

  • I agree. A bad workman always blames his tools. Same as the guy who pays 1000 quid for a guitar, when he cannot play for shit. If your good, all these effects and sounds are just salt and pepper on your tune. Never think that just because you paid 10 grand for your studio, its going to make you a great producer.

  • Amen!!

  • I seen people bang out amazing stuff on kids toy keyboards

  • I haven't. Sounds like a pretty fucking weird experience to me.

  • Hey far-out..Type in Casio pile.. There's some guy playing on those kids keyboards............

  • I have as well. It's quite niche but awesome. Reminds me of the 80s when people started first using synthasizers.

  • True musicians dont need to be swamped with available sounds......they make do with what theyve got........less is more!!

  • does thor come with Reason 4 or is it like a refill/plugin (if plugins are now in reason...[i still have reason 3 and am heavily looking into the new one])

  • Yes new features in Reason4 ..Thor (polysonic synth)regroove, stereo enhancer, maximizer, compressor, mastering suite...ive been using Reason for 5 years and I am thrilled with Reason 4..its uses are infinite...you will be impressed!!

  • awesome.

also, will my reason 3 files open in reason 4?

  • Yes,Reason 1,2 and 3 files are still compatible with reason4

  • well, that decides it.

    i'm buying Reason 4.

    :D

this dude...right here? as in, me...

    STOKED!!

    thanks for answering my questions.

    peace-peace

    steve

  • I currently have logic express 8 and i am getting annoyed with the very limited sounds that it offers. I am thinking of getting reason 4 to use as my sound bank and synth etc so i can use logic just as a sequencer/studio to actually make the songs if u see what i mean? is this a good option or does anyone have any other software ideas? Cheers, harry

  • Bad idea, Reason is very limited, you will have to get refill after refill once you get bored of the factory presets everyone uses, stay with logic and use one of the hundred vst options available

  • Your brains is very limited. I bet you're presets user. Reason synths can do everything you want, if you have enough skills.

  • Your brains is very limited. I bet you're presets user. Reason synths can do everything you want, if you have enough skills.

  • Reason fanboy, I'm not even arguing with you, keep thinking this average thor synth is the shit, Ill stick to my beloved ableton live and the infinite posibilities my vst's offer, keep limited to what propellerhead says you can use meanwhile :)

  • How the tool with many fx processors, huge routing possiblities and 6 synthesis methods can be shitty? If you really need other synth methods, just rewire it. Or use raw osc sounds in NN19 and connect the outputs to Thor. Factory soundbank and it's most synth presets is bad indeed. You really suck at synth programming isn't it? You cannot do something in Reason and then whining that it's sucks, then going to your precious Ableton and use presets.

  • Search for Deepforces - Harder. Its maded entirely in Reason 2.5 with it's synths. Samples used only for the beat.

  • Try rewiring Reason with Ableton live....the results are amazing.

  • What program is the best for making techno/trance music I have heard these are good fruity loops and Magix Music Maker?

  • I recommend from experience: Fruity Loops. I have used magix music maker and prefer Fruity Loops over Magix music maker.

  • That sounds tight!

  • need some help... i'm trying to setup based on a 2k budget a reason studio that has a great piano sounds... Right now I dont know where to start.. PLZ HELP THX. And does it matter what brand of laptop I hook the software? THX in advance

  • Download pianoteq vst, awesome piano sounds, even better than some sampled libraries

  • you suck

  • i had it for free. beat ya.

  • One word. Torrents.

  • another. lol

  • I wonder what keyboard he's using

  • I believe its a korg triton

  • He is using a Korg Kontrol 49 midi controller. He uses the same one on the demo videos on the reason website.

  • The THOR synth is great!

  • 3:55 .. perfect bass :)

  • I use Ableton Live 6.0.1 with RSN4.They work great together.

  • how? u record the loops on reason and get them together on ableton?

  • You got it!

Now I use the new Ableton Live 7.0.1.

  • maaaannn i wish reason supported vst plugins... or they would just sell this synth outside of using reason... this synth would make all my dreams come true

  • ReWire reason to your main DAW :)

  • I have a question. I'm a newbie so please go easy on me. How do you place the Thor note sequence in the bottom of the programmer in Thor to a track below without using the matrix, ect? I made a sequence, but can't seem to get it down to the tracks below. I'm sure it's something easy I'm overlooking. Thanks for the help!

  • Create a sequencer track and then hook that up to Thor

  • thats cause your computer sucks homie it works fine for me

  • I have recently bought this. And am having a serious problem! I have contacted reason, no reply yet!

I had reason 3, it was great. I use reason drumkits 2.0 and rewire them to cubase.

Since installing reason 4 it says "engine error check rewire host" and thats it! no more drums!

What can I do except put reason 3 back on?

  • You may have to uninstall reason 3. If that does not work try CCleaner, to sort out issues!

I am making a track at the moment with reason 4, but I have made some songs with reason 3. u can download them at a 320 rate from d-thinkerdotcom

  • Uninstalling both didn't work. Restarting PC several times even after clean removal of both reason 3 and 4. Only get the rewire problem with 4 :( I have 3 back on now, this is so irritating!

I have made a track on fruity loops though, click my name to listen to it :D Let me know what you think!

  • Can't wait to get my grubby little hands on Thor and blast my house!

  • i love thor!!!!

  • can anyone tell me what controller (midi keyboard) to use with reason?

I want to buy one but i cannot decide.. maybe novation or edirol... plz help

  • i have a 61 key evolution which is fuckin awsome for using in reason its called MK - 461C cost around £160 when i got it... Korg do really nice midi controllers but you're looking at a lot more money if you do go for a Korg you should maybe try the Kontrol 49 its a really nice controller i think they may be 2 - 300 pounds

  • This new synth is quite difficult to use. It's not as user friendly as the other synths but once you get the hang of it, it's one of the most powerful synths you can use. It pretty much makes the rest of the synths obsolete

  • You can download the full thing for free from Mininova. I don't know why you would want to pay that guy $75 for a copy

  • Because that is illegal?

  • they're taking their time releasing this

  • This guy is such an ass. That's why if you go to the Reason website they're trying to recruit a new spokesperson.

  • im very dissapointed with reason 4, only couple of new things added. nothing major, i dont like how the program has been set out.

  • Anyone want Reason 4.0??? Paypal for $75....add $25 and i will send you 20 refills too. email me info @ murray-music . com for more info

  • or get it for free online

  • the demo...not the full version

  • is yours a legit version your trying to sell? if it isnt you can get the full version online anyway, i bought reason 2.5 legit and havent had to pay for it, i was just saying.

  • no worries...email me info @ murray - music . com

  • sorry my last comment, i bought reason 2.5 and dotn have to pay for upgrades. he he thats what it supposed to say.If you buy you get that benefit, Im a little dissapointed with reason 4 overall.

  • Is it Legit??

  • Cant wait to get my hands on it baby!!!

  • I want this.

  • ha! i've noting against mac's except mac users who keep bashing windows!! from my experience mac users use a computer for internet, pictures, itunes, watching dvd's and if theyre adventurous, garageband!!>

i am a real musician [not just synths, guitars drums piano etc] and i ALLWAYS use windows!!

  • Mac users sometimes use Protools, Digital Performer, Logic, Reason, Altiverb, Absynth...I've been using macs for 15 years and nothing compares to a mac when it comes to serious music production. This is my (and many other real musicians) opinion. To finish, Virtual PC works pretty fine on my Mac!

  • I received my copy of Reason 4 today. I've been a paid supporter of this software since v2, and Reason never fails to disappoint. Maybe someday they will let you actually run audio INTO the application!

  • myspace(dot)com/tindallproductions

  • omggggggggggggg thor <3

  • It ultimately comes down to your own ears and skills when making music, no matter what piece of software of today...

  • yeah fuck fruity loops

fruity loops is for bitchz with no midi keyz

  • Ive used both fruity loops and reason... Ive used reason rewire with pro tools and I still prefer the synths in FL studio... If I could get FL for my Mac and it had rewire I would rather use it... I'm not a big fan of reason, or Pro tools. I prefer Ableton Live and Logic Pro.

  • i use cubase ableton reason and Fl, u can find pros and cons in everyone.. no point in arguing about it, its wat you do with it anyway

  • there are no cons in ableton >:U

lol well it doesn't play nicely with VSTis but oh well.

  • @Naughto001 so far i've only used FL and now i'm using reason. can you point out the highest pros and cons?

  • can't wait to play with Thor. Thor and I will have much fun as I twist Thors knobs and play with his buttons.

  • you relly dont know what your are on about do you,

wow you play the recorded big up !! lol

post a video of a track you easliey made in reason that everyone likes!!

  • Have your ever played an instrument, well i have, have you studied a little bit of music, well i have, Reason is a great and semi-pro tool, well really pro with rewire functions with pro tools, and try and do some music, and lets see how good you are, with these stupid sounds that you were talking about, lets see how good you are, with real or not real instruments.

  • cant wait cant wait...

  • soounds phat, but looks the same!

  • Oh well I guess I just have to change instruments from the tool menu, or hit f8, the new sequencer is mad cool though, and I like the alternative takes feature. I like Thore, people might say "what, just one synth" but a good modular synth can be as many new synths as you want.

  • Hey,what happend to the little drop down instrument menu in the sequencer that used to let you chose what instrument you want to use to play back the track?

  • Hey guys.. go back and work on some real gear.. and then you will understand why Reason is so great. The more everyones uses Abelton.. the more "routing" becomes a black art.

  • i like fl. studios

  • Fuck FL studio!!!!!

  • yeah man pump out hot cum into a studio.. :P

  • OK, I know it has no audio input.....but having no midi output......and then adding all those sequencing devices is just plain cruel.

  • what the fuck is that fucking THOR thing!? to me it looks like a total disaster! it's all messed up! I mean c'mon! a lil design would not hurt anyone! isn't enough with not being able to maximize the reason's windows, now you give me this fucked up thing!?!?!?

  • I'm Very Aroused!

  • this is sooooooo boring, they thought, well lets do the Steve Jobs thing... Everything is done wrong, the poor guy has had no training, no instructions, the company had no plan, no strategy !! I like Reason , but I lost a bit of faith in this company , watching this 'demonstration'...

  • When that bitch is released, im going to be adding a lot of it to my metal project.

  • Fuck, Reason 4.0 will be my first bought synthesizer, and sequencer software, and sampler, and all the rest. Damn! Damn! Damnnnn! How much ass can software kick...

  • Sounds like you'll be able to make some sick, dirty electro bass and synth sounds with Thor.

  • This presenter fucking sucks. They couldn't have sent someone who has even basic music training.

  • ...(Drooling)...why is this program so interesting?????

  • I'm going to BETA test the fuck out of Reason 4!

  • greate software !!!!

  • lol at the people so negative about reason..

  • With Thor, my Combinator patches are going to be killer!

  • I disagree with people saying that audioinput isn't needed. I really would like to try the vocoder in realtime with my voice. Also, wouldn't it be nice to be able to use the mastering fx in reason (and others) or just route a lot of vst-i/audiotracks into different devices into reason (And then back)?

  • You can try Vocoder in realtime (and any other use for Audio IN) if you use Hammer (for the Mac) or ASIO4ALL's ReWuschel (for Windows).

It'll help if you have a low-latency audio card.

  • Just use cubase and rewire it.

  • I wonder if Thor will be the only addition to Reason 4?

  • nope, R4 has ReGroove console, RPG-8 arpeggiator, a revamped sequencer, tweaked NN-XT and Combinator and Thor :)

  • And it's already pretty damn real time. See what he's doing there in the video? That's real time, right there. Reason is by far the least CPU intensive of all my audio programs because it's so efficiently coded so 'real-time support' is simply a matter of hardware capabilities.

  • NO. Not VST support, or audio recording. The Props know what they're doing, adding either of those two would bastardise Reason. Lazily coded VSTs and the instabilities inherent in audio input (there's a LOT of interfaces out there) would make a mess of an excellent synthesizer. And it is exactly that - just a synth.

    Get a Rewire host.

  • why vst's you can rewire it with any thing to use VST's! reason is great because it's well made and stable all on it's own. now live support, yeah I could dig. But VST's are not needed. use cubase or ableton or anything else if and rewire it if you want vst's

  • teacee said it all!!!!

  • audio , audio , AUDIO , audio , audio , audio , audio , AUDIO ,audio , AUDIO , audio , audio REAL TIME SUPPORT and VST SUPPORT ( THAT`LL MAKE IT A COMPLETE ) THESE TWO THINGS ARE MUCH MORE NEEDED THAN THAT "THOR" THINGY :( .

  • AAAAAAAAA!! This is AWSOME! Reason is THE choice for music production for me and my fellow producers. With rewire it can do miracles! aaaaaa can't waint for 4! :) When is it gonna release?

  • reason=techno

  • Not only techno, but yes. It is the best way to create original techno sound. With Reason you can create anything. Really!

  • VST support!!

  • I totally agree with you. VST support!!! And real time recording support!!!

  • truth is Fuck every punk ass bitch that hates on reason period! its a stand alone motherfuckin music production instrument 1 of a kind! and the haters r just mad cuz they cant use it..NATIVEOPS ur a stand alone one of a kind queer period.

  • i remember when all Propellerhead had was Rebirth. boy that thing sucked. iamtheonetospeak is right, Propellerhead needs to get up with the times. you think they would have stepped up their game considering all they'd have to do is write the code. LOL. the day you can record your guitar into it with FX it might compete. but it's still for the little guys

  • You have to put in what you want to get out, and that's the curse with every tool ;)

Real musicians know it's not the tools. Everyone that made a tune in the 90's and before knows how gifted we are today!

vst's, filters blabla...it's much deeper than that.

  • man you got no idea! lol 5gig syths, just write the code, plug your guitar in? thats no what reason is about, or rebirth! reason is the VST. its the most powerful VST you can get. no need to waste 5gig on just one synth either, when with smart production and a little bit of lateral thinking you can make any style of music you like. just rewire reason into cubase for a full kick ass package.

  • you can't use 3rd party VST's, synths or filters. you can't record or edit audio. the filters are low quality. the synths are low quality, but i won't say they are useless. and the samples it comes with really suck, really bad, i would never let anyone hear one in my music. the samplers are limited as to how much RAM you can allocate for your instruments. I use very large piano's and instruments that are over 5gigs each. sorry Propellerhead, your toy is for the kids.

  • VST's = Rewire

Synths are low quality = Since when? It all depends on how you work with your sounds. And the mastering is, as you know, critical. Especially when working with software based synths.

Reason is a revolutionary piece of software. And you all know it... :-)

Can't wait to get my hands on it!

  • Ignorance is not an excuse, propellerhead is the maker of REWIRE!!!! And if you knew how to use it you wouldnt have made that statement, reasons rewired to Cubase or any other program that can use VST's is all you need to have the best of both worlds.

  • Not very exited about Reason 4, but Reason 3 has been everything i needed since I discovered it 1 1/2 ago.

  • fuck that... Only way im ever using reason again is if they support VST's. Reason was cool 4 years ago... They really need to get with the times and revam their shit, even if it is only intended to be a "virtual synth rack" fuck rewire!

  • iamtheonetospeak , think about it. would you let me drive your car without knowing if i'd crash it? same principle. no ones forcing you to use reason, but its handy to get idea's down and nice when i'm travelling. also it doesn't knock the s*** out of my cpu like some vst's do on my laptop. whether it be because they are complex, or just sloppy programming that wasn't optmised.

  • I agree with cosine303 :)

  • wt a shit demo...i never buy that with this seller LOLLl...but i know that synth could be good1

  • I agree the he is a demo man, but. . .WOW!!! that is a heavenly soft synth for the new reason!!!

  • Well, I'm not in agreement that he's the king of demo men. He needs some major classes in working the crowd to get that title.

  • when is the release date???

  • this guy is not a very good presenter... why don't you stop playing sounds, run a beat, and show us what the damn thing does with some real noises happening?

  • This is a demo for the Thor synth. So he's going to be playing Thor.

The sound quality's terrible so it's hard to make out how good the synth is, but most people are in agreement that he's, like, the king of demo-men. Look at some of his videos on the Propellerhead website. You'll see.

  • heavey synth man, thats the real shit.

  • yumm... any release date ?

  • Gimme that!

  • all i want to know is when is it comming out hahaha

  • Reason is a digital studio that EMULATES analogue gear. That means that the SubTractor behaves like an analogue synth but it's a lot more flexible because it's digital.

Audio recording in Reason is never going to happen. If they did that they'd have to be a VST host, and a ReWire host, and feature audio quantize, and so on to compete with proper DAWs. It would make it less stable and no-one would want it because it's just an inferior Cubase.

  • nicely said

  • MX4 does this better.

  • reason wont ever have audio recording yo. God this synth looks badass. i wonder if the sequencer will improve.

  • badass. can't wait to see what else they put in this.

  • do you really think this is an analog synth? hahahah, dude . . a modern computer is digital, software is DIGITAL

  • I thought the subtractor in reason 3 was analog? I dont know dude

  • nice to have synth, but i'd rather have audio recording IN reason

  • I could care less about the new synth... it'll be useful for certain styles I guess, but it's nothing spectacular. I'm just hoping that 4.0 improves the sequencer already...

  • You can synthesize 'phat' sounds by playing several devices at a time with a Combinator.

You can also ReWire the synths into the likes of Cubase at any stage. So if I've got a Combi I like that would go really well with this-or-that VST then I can send it through ReWire.

So yeah, it's looking increasingly like Reason is the ultimate synth package (not only in the soft category) because of the creative ways you can use it.

  • man when is this commin out ive been usin reason since i started makin beats since 2.5 cant wait tell this comes out anyone know when its commin out ?

  • Although reason has its upsides, low cpu usage....all inclusive ....not as likly to glitchout on you :D the synths still are the weakest parts they dont have the depth and phatness/warmth that even vsts have letalone real synth. This has allways let it down, this one sounds a little better...its hard to tell until you play with it, all this guy seems to be doing is playing with the filters and lfo speed :D i guess thats the easiest thing to demonstrate at a presentation.

    Peace & Hugs

    Brian

  • I just sample my VST's to get rid of that problem. XD
