He glided in from the blue line, if he kept taking strides and then hit Semin it would be charging. This was as clean as it gets, Semin should keep his head up if he doesn't want to get hit

I think Winchester probably could have hit him a lot harder, but didn't because he saw the position Semin was in. He saw the play develop and stopped skating once he hit the blue line, then (emphatically) separated Semin from the puck. Whatever though. We've seen this a hundred times: somebody gets smashed and everyone reacts so they can get a whistle and calm things down. I don't see anything wrong with the hit or the retaliation by Ovi. That's good hockey all around.

Lol he came from the blueline with his eyes set on Semin. That is the definition of charging. This announcer is in Jack Edwards territory claiming that wasn't a charge. I also believe Ovechkin retaliated like he did because the Caps players took some heat for not jumping Rene Bourque after he chicken-winged Nicklas Backstrom.

@oriolesrule7 Disagree. The charging rule: "Charging shall mean the actions of a player who, as a result of distance traveled, shall violently check an opponent in any manner." How does the distance traveled, here, cause the violent hit, given that the Shark wasn't skating at him after he crossed the blue line? If this hit is illegal, most hits on the forecheck are illegal because the forward is coming from the neutral zone. Also, after the game, Ovi said he thought it was clean.

I agree with iKyle775 and gsh915. I don't see any games here in Finland.. Even less those that are aired 5:30 am, haha. Occasionally there are some games shown here on the "free TV channels" and I've seen ONE Sharks game in the TV.
