  • You know that you can actually type the frequencies right? xD

    Nice video.

  • good job man !

    thx 4 sharing

  • I got my 470 to 1000/750/1500/1750 using a zalman VF3000F(GTX470/465)

  • @n00baTr00pa I'm using the same cooler did managed a 875/1750 2000/4000 OC @1.087V just like this video with max temps at 82C. Not nice and cool like this awesome waterblock DD offers, but good enough for air and better than OEM!

  • @2015ww3 Nah mate, I had a crappy case at the time, so the heat would build up too much, it would work for a while, but as soon as I played like Crysis or something, it would BSOD.

  • easiest way to stress your video card: vertical sync off, it makes your card render as much fps as possible.

  • I find that Furmark makes the GPU work harder than Kombuster does, therefore Furmark gives a more accurate indication on stability.

  • "Torture Rack" haha xD

  • I love the name of that "torture rack" you torture computers on it :P

  • I'm new at hardware, and this is why I'm on Youtube, I am learning, lol.

A few questions for any one who is confident is answering and who knows what they're talking about, lol.

What is the Shader Clock of a GPU?

What is memory for the GPU, how fast memory is processed through the GPU?

  • @JoDaddyy The GPU for Fermi chips has 512 shaders (used to process the polygons & textures in 3d games)& are arranged in 16 clusters. gtx470 has 2 of the clusters disabled, the shaders run at twice the speed of the processor which in turn runs on a reference clock of 27Mhz from which all is set with various Gpu multipliers. The Memory is used to store graphic info like texture in games so it runs faster. Bandwith is like lanes on a highway 4 memory, more is better, but shaders is what counts.

  • @adrianbogard Damn, thanks, I think I understood that. :D

  • @JoDaddyy Heh,its a bit confusing at first. If ur video card runs out of memory while playing a game it will slow down a lot, since it has to send info to the memory on the motherboard and than back.Think of it this way,if u want to get a coffee across the street, u wouldn't want to get into a cab go to the airport fly around the world back to the airport and back into the cab to the other side, the logical thing to do would be to cross the street :P hope this helps a lil bit. Cheers.

  • Is it possible to destroy video cards through overclocking ? Or do they have built in shutdown protection these days for GPU's ?

  • @crs2379 you can destroy video card if you OC it too much or you doesnt exactly know what you are doing

  • @crs2379

protection theses days it will crash the OS and reboot, most pc's reset to stock after the reboot.

  • But does it really improve performance? Show a game before the overclock then how it improves after. All the rest is nothing but wet dreams.

  • @Howie47 yeah man it does. a lot.

you can notice anywhere between 10-30 fps increase depending on what game on stock vs an OC'd 470!!

    google it!

  • @z31Joshyman Thanks, yes, I've since done some testing myself. This is the most over clockable card I've ever had. 100 mhz with out changing the voltage. I havn't found the limit yet. I wouldn't be surprised if it goes too 800 mhz.

  • @Howie47 sweet man gratz! mine is in the mail on the way. i just sold my 295.

im not going to have liquid cooling, and its an EVGA.

so any tips for me on OCing it with air cooling?

  • @z31Joshyman I have a reference model. There are some better cooling offerings available now. Both MSI and Gigabyte. The first most important thing is to reset the fan speed options. Open Afterburner, click settings, then the "Fan" tab. Now change the graph so the speed of the fan increases more as the temp goes up. My original setting only took the fan up to 70%. I have a open tower. My window airconditioner is close by. I use a small desk fan to redirect the cool air. Max temps 70 cel.

  • @Howie47 P.S. Make sure the fan speed is set to "auto" in Afterburner. I've found it goes back to manual and the original setting ever time you change your clock settings. So make sure the "frame" of fan speed is high lighted in green.

  • @z31Joshyman my gtx470 is evga too an overclock on stock cooler i only recomend till 800 on the core and 1810 on the memorie, and whit some voltage andfan speed at 70\85% thats the max i can get from mine more than that i get more then 90cº...

  • Does Afterburner work with a 8600GT?

I know its an old card but just wondering.

  • @GingerGAMER7 I think it will if you change a single number in the Afterburner config. file. The one that lets other cards be recognized. That's if your card isn't a MSI. to begin with.

  • Hmmmm

did it crash because there was not enough voltage?

i know where i can get a GTX470 modded BIOS which will let me go up to 1.21V :D

  • Furmark is not a stability test. Use OCCT or the ripoff OCCT/Furmark hybrid called EVGA OC Scanner. Both have actual error checking. This GPU overclock is as useful as a CPU overclock whos requirement is being able to boot the system. Worthless.

  • hi there....i just got a gtx 470 from gigabyte.....there is a software like msi afterburner for gigabyte because i´m using the one u got but i wanted from gigabyte...will see set my fan up to 80% and see how it goes....

  • My god now that is over clocking to the max yo good job

  • is kombustor just fur mark?

  • nice oc ....i ordered my gtx470 already ...so next week i´ll do some test hehhe....

  • plus the ability to change the card's PWM frequency.

  • oh and if you want higher voltage, wait for EVGA to release support for the 470's on their E-LEET utility as it only supports 480's, but up to an amazing 1.35v.

  • geez this is what trubritar did, but with a 480. but saying that, i know the 480 can go higher. but damn nice OC all the way from 6XX up to 875

  • I just ordered the rest of my parts less than a minute ago :D so my pc should be ready to benchmark and all in less than a week. I've been waiting forever!!!! Heres my specs if u care : My system : CASE : Cooler Master HAF 932 MOTHERBOARD : eVga X58 3X SLI MEMORY : 6GB OCZ GOLD DDR3- 1600 PROCESSOR : Core i7 930 (Mega Shadow Heatsink) VIDEO CARD : PNY GTX 480 POWER SUPPLY : Corsair TX850w HARD DRIVE : Western Digital Caviar Black 1TB OS : Windows 7 Ultimate 64 Bit
