I used to be a sound tech at WGS and I can say that is somewhat of a close comparison of the two. The Celestion has a more 3D sound and cuts way better. The WGS has just a little more bass, but the highs aren't that good on WGS. In any type music I think the Celestion wins hands down. But you CAN'T beat the Vet30 for the money that's for sure.

Two extremes here,the V30's have that ear fatiguing upper mid spike but the WGS version doesn't even sound like the V30 it's based on being that scooped,it's the other extreme.Probably sounds best one of each/2 of each to balance it out.

Both sound great, but strange from WGS to talk about the Veteran 30 like a Vintage 30 alternative... Nothing identical.

The WGS are better for this style. They sound great but still leave space in the mix for vox and other lead instruments. The mid range hash that the V30's are known for is here in spades. Some love it. I hate it. The WGS really sounds nothing like a V30 and that's a good thing in my book but is probably confusing to some if the Celestion sound is what they are looking for

It sounds like the clips a pretty raw.

The WGS is way more scooped than the V30 but also has some annoying high frequencies to my ears. The V30 cuts like a hot knife through butter though it sounds darker than the WGS.

They would probably go together nicely in an X pattern in a 4x12, although my favorite is still the V30.

Damn the WGS are definitely fatter, with more bass and bottom end, while the V30 is more trebly, middy, and sharper. I'd say WGS for rhythm, V30 for leads.

I may need to replace the eminence speaker in it, so I am looking for a good, all-round speaker to put in it. @mcglonelevi For versitility, I would go with the Celestion. My buddy's Fender Hot Rod and Marshall sound amazing with them. The mids it adds really lend to the overall tone. Hope that helps.

@fluff191 Certain ones are, like the ones made for Mesa for instance, but if you'll check out most vintage 30 labels, as stand alone speakers, not for name brand cabs, they say Celestion International LTD now, not Ipswich Foxhall. I'm pretty sure anyway...I could be wrong...I often am.

Finally somebody does a sound comparison with some balls. People usually do them strumming softly or just noodling. I think the people who believe the celestions sound better are not taking into account the fact that the wgs veteran 30s are only 98db while the vintage 30s are 100db, yet we can still hear them over the music better despite the 2db difference. Also, when standing directly in front of the celestions at shows the highs pierce uncomfortably. WGS wins with just a slight eq tweak.

Thanks for the awesome demo! I've been thinking about picking up some WGS V30's but am still on the fence. There is definitely a bigger difference than I imagined (which is why I'm so glad you did this video). I think I'm leaning towards the WGS although i like both.
