  • I received my order from The Fiber Optic Store. I am here in Alaska and it arrived here pretty quickly.

Be sure to let The Fiber Optic Store know you heard about them from Tom, if enough people say how you learned about their business maybe Tom will get some free stuff. A round about way to support ModelManTom for all he has done for us modeling noobs.

Oh did I mention I had to dig my way through the snow to get to my post office box, up hill both ways.

    LOL

  • Sounds like a winner of an idea to me, Krill!

ps. my regards on your trials... Up hill one way is bad enough when digging thru snow, but *both* ways up hill has got to be killer!

pps. You may actually be trapped in a hypersphere and *not* Alaska as you are led to believe.

    pps :D

  • Howdy T

Like on this video I had a problem getting equal light thru multiple fibers on a domed LED so I filed the tip of the LED flat to get a flush meeting between the LED and the

fibers. This will cut down on the total number of LEDs needed for my Mobeus Lost in space pod.

    Hope this tip helps someone.

  • Yup, filing the tips off is a good way to assure even lighting. Even better is to stick the led in one end of a alum or brass tube and the fiber in the other. In this case, for 2 threads, taping them was just as adequate.

Check my star destroyer for a serious amount of leds and fiber.

  • Hey Tom.

Do you know where I could get some warm white led's? I need to get some that are as small as possible, is there any size smalled than 3mm?

    Thanks

    -Spencer

  • I get mine off ebay in 100 packs for ~$20 shipped. There are smaller called microleds (mleds) but I doubt they come in warm white. They are more expensive, but under a dollar each. I forget what I paid for mine. The bitch is they are so freaking small (~1mm paint-chip-size) that I can't figure out how I'm going to solder them.
