i was doing stuff like this when i was circuit bending my $50 guitar amp. Some real harsh sounds came out, but it was good because the operator was necessary for the circuit to be complete. Dangerous? fuck oath. Worth it? fuck oath. then i touched the wrong capacitor with the wrong wire and now its fucked.
I think Tip Top is amazing, attractive, and quite a bargain. I love the Z3000 readout - a brilliant idea well executed. Don't worry bristolwizzle, it's OK to have a minority opinion, but how about a touch of humility.
@vStylerJohnG Maybe.. but you could also argue that you could play the same thing on a $3,500 PRS that you could on a $60 hello kitty squire.. but there will be a MASSIVE difference sonically.
The z2040 doesn't need any external signal for self oscillation. The description even says "there is no signal going into the filter". The oscillator module is being used for FM into the filter, but no audio.
That's a very generic statement that just serves to make you look stupid. Would you care to elaborate what you don't like about tiptop and what you like instead?
I very simply do not like the esthetics of the modules in general (colour scheme/ knobs/ layout) on top of which the oscillator has a massive digital screen which i find very unattractive. the modules tiptop are outputting aren't specifically revolutionary and similar sounds could certainly be achieved with a whole comparable range of modules. down to the name, i find no appeal in these products. and certainly not out of conservatism, as i consider Harvestman as one of the best modular makers
Hmmm... Have you actually tried any of the Tiptop modules or are you just arm-chairing an opinion?
The "massive digital screen" on the Z3000 is very nice to have when setting up a bunch of VCOs. The sine out of the same module is very different when you _play_ it. It's FAT, by design. And no, it's not a PURE sine, which is actually a feature.
You should actually try the module - all of them actually - before dropping such a blanketed opinion.

Why does the Filter need an external signal for self oscillation? Normally you don't need that.

Interesting knob technique. However, I don't like tiptop audio.
