When I was a kid...7 or 8...my dad would watch Lawrence Welk and everytime the Lennon Sisters would sing my dad would tease the hell out of me by saying "I bet you'd love to play in the hay with one of those. I would always be embarased...until I hit 17.

Just look at black music in the 50's and now. You will see that when they had it rough the music was good and there was no crime. I do not mean we must be a racist society, we must be good to all but not encoruage bad behavior and slutty and bad language. Wow the Lennon sisters did a awesome job with this long time country-rock crossover. The song was written by Jimmy Duncan in 1957 as a country love song, but quickly crossed over to the rock & Roll charts after boys and girls loved the message the song gave. Highly romantic, never met a woman that didn't like the song. Both lyrics and music. Great job to the Lennon sisters on this one!

@banjohappy -Not so much, I think. There was, of course, a national loss of innocence. Just exactly when it occurred, I'm not sure. Mid to late sixties, I suppose. Grandma ruled the TV, so we had to can the Little Richard and watch Lawrence Welk. I soon gained an appreciation for The Lennon Sisters.

I was fortunate to grow up with their entire family, same elementary school, same church and interacted with them and their brothers many times in Venice, CA. Have kept up with the siblings even now, when some of them are in Branson, MO and retired.

Yes, the sisters are still with us, but retired. I believe one or two are in Branson, MO and retired. The other(s) returned to CA after their beloved mom "Sis" passed away about four or five years ago. Some of the younger brothers stayed in Branson too.

I lived in Venice CA near them for years. I live in Norman, OK now. Have seen them in Branson several times.

I, too sang this song to my twin daughters when they were babies. The first time they heard it on the radio when they were older, they remembered it. They both said, " I've heard this song before somewhere". Strange, huh??
