When I was a kid...7 or 8...my dad would watch Lawrence Welk and everytime the Lennon Sisters would sing my dad would tease the hell out of me by saying "I bet you'd love to play in the hay with one of those. I would always be embarased...until I hit 17.
Just look at black music in the 50's and now. You will see that when they had it rough the music was good and there was no crime. I do not mean we must be a racist society, we must be good to all but not encoruage bad behavior and slutty and bad language. No more free handouts and women must take pride in dressing well and being modest. That will gain them more respect other than being looked upon as an object of sex.
yes women of today are mostly whores. Hard to find a single decent girl who has good moral values and dresses covering everything. The whole world was ruined by the counter culture revolution and by giving free handouts to minorities. Also the practise of being politically correct and letting minorities have a free ride and encouraging their false sense of entitlement is what is ruining this world today.
Honestly, if I didn't know the woman on the left was Dee Dee (in the first picture and the one that comes on at 1:17) by process of elimination, I would never know it was her! Beautiful version of this song.
So a nation turned from God to idols. Progreeively from the early 60's to 2010. the music changed because the culture did. It still reflects some of the values of the IN generation though. How do you older folks like this change? Does the gangster rap reflect the values of the modern generation? Or does it destroy them? (I go with the latter)
what lovely harmonious voices, up until hearing this version, I thought Bobby Vintons version was the best, now I have changed my mind...thankyou for converting me..Have to be honest I had never heard of these ladies before, were they big in thUSA?
Wow the Lennon sisters did a awesome job with this long time country-rock crossover. The song was written by Jimmy Duncan in 1957 as a country love song, but quickly crossed over to the rock & Roll charts after boys and girls loved the message the song gave. Highly romantic, never met a woman that didn't like the song. Both lyrics and music. Great job to the Lennon sisters on this one!
Lucky parents to have such gorgeous and talented daughters. Their singing is divine. Although I grew up in the 50s/60s their music was not found in South Africa.
@banjohappy -Not so much, I think. There was, of course, a national loss of innocence. Just exactly when it occurred, I'm not sure. Mid to late sixties, I suppose. Grandma ruled the TV, so we had to can the Little Richard and watch Lawrence Welk. I soon gained an appreciation for The Lennon Sisters.
I saw them at a MS telethon in bham alabama back in the early 60s. I was about 12 and i softly whistled sorta under my breath and the youngest one turned and smiled as they walked in a door way and i melted, i could not speak. i was so scared.
Me, too. Maybe precisely because we ARE gay, to answer your question. The Lennon Sisters look especially fantastic around 1966. I dig beehives on women, and theirs were the best. I wish more women today... oh well.
p.s. Isn't Snookiebutt hot? I wish I could enlarge that pic of him. He might even be sexier than KATHY! KATHY! KATHY! my favorite Lennon.
I was fortunate to grow up with their entire family, same elementary school, same church and interacted with them and their brothers many times in Venice, CA. Have kept up with the siblings even now, when some of them are in Branson, MO and retired.
Yes, the sisters are still with us, but retired. I believe one or two are in Branson, MO and retired. The other(s) returned to CA after their beloved mom "Sis" passed away about four or five years ago. Some of the younger brothers stayed in Branson too.
Thanks for the clarification. I knew that one or more went back and as you said, it was just one. And yes, you are correct, most stayed in Branson. You must know them as well as I do. Do I know you?? I lived in Venice CA near them for years. I live in Norman, OK now. Have seen them in Branson several times.
used to sing this to my daughter every night at bedtime when she was little, it was her favorite "mom song", and though she is all grown up...we still consider this our song.
Thanks for sharing this...so beautifully sung by the sisters!
I, too sang this song to my twin daughters when they were babies. The first time they heard it on the radio when they were older, they remembered it. They both said, " I've heard this song before somewhere". Strange, huh??

This is the song popular when my oldest son was born. I started listening a few minutes ago and unexpectedly broke down in tears.
