Nimoy was is and will be the perfect Spock! Quinto acts very well in the new mowie and seeing them out of the spock rig they may have some apearence similarities (mostly in body type)but lets face it Nimoy wins over him even at this age.(and his has several decades on me ).

Besides being so handsome and having that incredible voice ,Nimoy has that special something one cannot put into words and does not dicrease with years..

its so great to see from various clips of nimoy and quinto together as well as from interviews I've read, that the two spocks got on so well! their like really good friends off camera now as well! quito says he goes over to watch old episodes of star trek with nimoy! such a shame shatner didnt supress his ego to do the same sort of character role coaching with pine (not that he needed it).

Right! Check William Shatner's channel, and you'll see he had the courage to put in the "historic moment" when he meets Chris Pine: you see Pine introducing himself, they talks a few seconds... hidden by Shatner's wife, so you cannot see nor hear basically anything. You just get Pine is just glad to have a civil conversation. Very dull to watch.

I think that Quinto is doing a lot of sci-fi and it's working for him. However, knowing this... Leonard Nimoy had to struggle to be considered for numerous acting roles that he was turned down for because of his notoriety as 'Mr. Spock'.

Nimoy is a brilliant actor and the 60's was just not ready to allow this man to act in various roles other than sci-fi.

Quinto is a product of 2008, they (Hollywood) MAY be a lot less rigid in not pigeon-holing his career.

No, it's not just you. In personality I can make a connection too there I think. And I guess if your face doesn't look like the characters face but you can behave the way the character behaves in your acting skill then that's a great compensation. Which I'm sure he'll do. Hyped for this movie! What also helps is at least he dresses up exactly in Spocks clothes.

I think the similarities are in their glasses, their mannerisms, their dress sense and their smiles - none of which will apply to playing Spock! That said, Zach Quinto is a Great actor and he'll probably pull it off - but I still can't get my head around why Kirk and Spock would be at the academy with Scotty and McCoy and Uhura, Chekov and Sulu - there's an obvious age (and rank) gap there.

That's one of the smartest points I don't think anyone's noticed! In StarTrek, the beginning in every show states "their 5 year mission" and Sulu has only served w/Kirk in that 5 year mission. And during that show Kirk was already 32 (or was it 35?), so they can't have all known one another fresh out of the academy! Nice observation there Simon. More importantly, the way the act towards each other durin the show was not old colleagues, only in the final movies did they act like old colleagues.

Yeah, Kirk was supposed to be 32 (Shatner was 35) and I think Chekov was meant to be somewhere around 20 - so if they were at the academy together then Chekov must have been totally hopeless to only get to ensign when Kirk was captain! oh well, maybe the film will explain it somehow!

The new ST is not chronologically correct... Checkov did not get assigned onto the Enterprise until the second season of ST. By that time, Kirk was about 35 so the new ST could not have had Checkov as a cadet even... he would have been too young to be in Star Fleet during the new film as Chekov would have been 9 or 10 years old.

I've seen the new movie a couple of times already. Kirk and Checkov are in the SAME TIME CONTINUUM, man. Kirk is SUPPOSED to be 15 years older than CHeckov... not 6 or 7 years older.

The new movie does NOT explain this.

I enjoyed the film, in spite the time issues.

I LOVE Spock/ Nimoy and I did enjoy Spock/ Quinto's portrayal. I got my Spock glasses and everything!!!!

I recall having a SUPER-CRUSH on Leonard Nimoy (and I still do). He is so much a man with his baritone voice, he's tall and lean... I don't care if he's a senior citizen, this man has CHARISMA oozing from him! Nimoy is intelligent & well-spoken PLUS he has a GREAT smile, plus he's talented as a photographer.

I think the whole point of the movie was... a reimagining of everything.

So of course they'll change the facts a little. They aren't going to just remake the original movies and plotlines, they are going to reimagine the characters, and start a new developement..
