@tylerwatt12 He was just asking questions and asking you to look into it lol. Exept for the HighQue or whatever. And when he does tell ya info he does tell you where he got it from or who said it.
You made some good points Azrienoch. I also too wonder where all that data goes. If I have my right to privacy then there should be no reason why anybody, not even the government should be viewing my data for whatever reason.
Wooo....the last part of sex offender just epic....it just raise the seriousness of this issue, a weird comparison, but i does feel the "Wooooo" <--- speechless
If i remember correctly, the government was talking about placking tracking chips into every American a few years ago...most people say it was just conspiracy theorists having fun...well now it actual reality but they were smarter than most expected by placing the tracking functionality into our phones...all that's left is for the government to begin subsidizing the price of these phones and the service so everyone has one...my question is why? and to what ends.?
Ich scheiß auf die Entwickler von CarrierIQ du können sonst wen erzählen "allein zur Qualitätssicherung" behinderte Leute gibt es keine Privatsphäre nicht mehr !!
@chrisjbd seconding that. Also, it would be awesome if you could put on XdaTV as a podcast on itunes or something like it, I would love to watch you guys on the road!
Proposed Legal Changes: Get rid of "opt-out". Any company that wishes to use its software & hardware to track, profile, log, report, or any other data-mining, including but not limited to advertising, statistical analysis, profiling, or any other reason must have users "opt-in" to such activities. Any user who refuses should be given an avenue to do so while still using the product they purchased fully and w/o limitation. This extends to changes in existing privacy settings and policies.
It is up to every end user to demand privacy in every aspect of technology. In the US lobbying for advertisement and data-mining agencies are working to invade and control every aspect of your life. It's corporate greed thats driving this privacy invasion as data-mining is huge money for the advertising industry. Why is it other countries have laws to protect their citizens but not the US? Every wonder why custom roms run faster and crash less? Its crapware & spyware causing the problems!
Whats worse is we PAY companies to invade our privacy, slow down our devices, cause random reboots, instability, etc. Why is it if I pay full retail price for a phone ($600) I have to deal with bloatware on my device that can't be removed. The carrier can't say its needed to recuperate lost income from a subsidized device if I paid full retail. Worse, Google is doing NOTHING. My Droid X2 tells me its spying every time I load up the GPS and the only option is NOT TO USE GPS. Thats WRONG.
Why should I have to Root (I am of course, and am active on XDA) my device and void my warranty? The only solution is changes to the privacy law. Google can stop this if they want to; all they have to do is say "All Android phones have to run stock Android". Stock Android does not have Motorola's "Data Collection Service" or "Data Management Service" built into the OS. Only allow hardware companies to create their own personalized "home" interface, no changes to the OS. No Bloatware!
If the end user wants to install a rom, its their choice but every Android phone should come with stock Android. Updates would be sent directly from Google and would no longer take months after an OS revision due to hardware manufacture & carrier laziness or marketing plan to sell new devices. You should be able to install a different "Home" from the market (LP+, etc) and no longer have any hardware manufacture code running, only vanilla Android. Manufactures & Carriers are ruining the OS.
@Thalinor00 not that easy considering that android is a open source project that means the manufactures and carriers have free roam of what they want to do with it.
@You Facecrap using idiots. Just because YOU don't give a ratsass about your privacy doesn't mean the rest of us are ignorant and incompetent. I no longer use Facecrap after its shitdick CEO came out and said privacy is a thing of the past, and that's for the better. Who is it better for? Facecrap and its billions of dollars in data-mining; not it's users. I have been saying we need better privacy laws for years and no one listens. Opt-out should be a crime; only opt-in should be legal.
i use Facebook to tell everyone where we are and what we are doing, we use all kinds of apps to let the world know what we do at all times and what we think about everything, why is this carrier IQ affecting us?? why is so bad, we already tell the world everything we do everyday, are you wasting your time???
@elmanortega I do not share my location on Facebook. Or anywhere. Even if I did, I DECIDED to share it. We have no choice with Carrier IQ. You may choose to share on Facebook. You may choose to share your location on 4chan. But you chose.
@azrienoch we users us a lot of apps to tell the world what we do carriers can get all that info from apps but they decide to have a hidden app to do that, i get it, carriers tell us about it tell us what info you are getting and what you are going to do with that. Fine, but is not something that is going to upset 90% of users around the world, we care about bootloaders, we care about not being able to use the rom that we want, we care about all the things that we want to do with our device
@azrienoch i live in costa rica im about to open the first HTC store here, small but im on my way, i have no support down here, im all on my own, we should fight about that more support for everybody, unlocked bootloaders, freedom to choose what do you want to do with your device, you have a voice that a lot of ppl hear, i dont, carriers from usa are bad we all know, but with a custom rom you can get rid of all that junk and put something you like instead but for that we need freedom, fight.
I feel sad when I think about customers situation in US and what kind problems they are with their carriers. The network quality, the service quality, the network speed, network broadband, SIM locking, contract locking... you name it.
Like where in US I would get a network contract for 2 years what is 3 dollars a month with unlimited data amount and bandwidth? Like how it sounds that I could go almost anywhere and I could get full speed what network just can give and unlocked SIM?
When Apple and Google got in trouble for it's GPS logging. Mere days later Apple was in court dealing with congress. When it deals with a high percentage of people the high courts take quick actions. Also because this has to deal with snooping and tracking they need to make sure no federal offenses on a large scale have been committed. When peaking into someones personnel life like this, full disclosure is absolutely necessary. This is just like a swat team raiding a meth lab. Only nicer.
aren't you making a big deal about this? i meen if this has been going on for some time why should you suddenly care so much about it? its not like everything just changed and white is black and left is right... i dont live in the us and i dont think my country has the carrieriq shit but honestly.... i couldn't give a flying fuck about it, its not worth wasting a mili second of my life on
@azrienoch and so what? it dosnt change anything, the world is still the same, your overreacting and blowing it WAY up, if the info they're logging is for making cellular network better then whats the problem? what du you feer so much
@LiamSization It changes everything. We thought we lived in a world where we chose when we gave out data. Turns out we don't. It's like you waking up to find your email or bank account hacked. Oh, yeah, you can be mad, but little did you know, the hacker had your password for years and used it quietly until they slipped up and you noticed. By your reasoning, you shouldn't be mad in that situation.
@duane534 umm, RIM isnt even close CIQ has been found in iOS, Android and RIM, however google doesnt put this on to their aosp or to the nexus phones, so CIQ is doing more or less depending on your phone and manufactuerer, and its the hardware makers/software coders blaming the carriers and visa versa
Sex offenders really have a better disposition then carriers customers. I would never know that... So it's better to be an sex offender then a carriers customer? Customers say yes, carriers say no :P
"RIM [BlackBerry] is aware of a recent claim... that an application called “CarrierIQ” is installed on mobile devices... without the knowledge or consent of the... users. RIM does not pre-install the CarrierIQ app... or authorize its... partners to install the CarrierIQ app before sales or distribution. RIM also did not develop or commission the development of the... application, and has no involvement in the testing... or distribution of the app. RIM will continue to investigate..."
@TheFinalDroid CM7 = CyanogenMod ? still doesnt work for i9001 right ? damn...
Oh.. an a question: I bought my phone without any contract or stuff like that, so carrier IQ is only a preinstalled app by the contract providers right ?
So i am using a prepaid sim, meaning i shouldnt worry or w0000t ?
@TheFinalDroid Most people don't even know how to root... is good that vanilla Android doesn't include this. But it's outrageous that 98% of customers that stay with the default that came with their phone have this spyware installed.
It's amazing as I type this at home, my data is probably being sent to Microsoft and AT&T via my WP7 device but from my responses from MS, it would be my Carrier who has the last say on what to enable even though it IS an option they have pre-programmed for additional Usability Research. What? Did I get fooled? Who do I sue? MS for making the option or AT&T for maybe using it?
@DarknesSxLDS Im guessing you never purchased an app from the android market? Many of us have..and have typed our credit card details. That is just one of the reasons why most people are freaked out.
