Somewhere out there.....someone some day will be saying, "justin who, tucrap who, rap, michael jackson who, what was that shit? Forty years of dead music. And these guys will still be playing.
Clapton's lead still not up to what he laid down 40 years ago. The all-out blistering leads on the Wheels of Fre track will probably never be equaled, but he showed who owns the song for sure.
@MacFeeley I'm 61 now, and there aren't a lot of physical things I do as well as I did 40 years ago either....he said himself a few years ago that some of things he could do back then he just can't do anymore. But no matter; he's still the best in my book.
@SleepyBoBos Well- let's face it, they are all standing on the shoulders of giants. I've been listening to Clapton since the Yardbird days and love his playing. But Derek is at least his equivalent of this age - at least: I've listened to few guitar players of his power and inventiveness. Each chorus he delivers - in any setting - is unique and compelling.
@fivenotechord I think you're right about Trucks; his uncle Butch says he was a child prodigy, and a lot of people even compare him to the great Skydog himself already. He is definitely the future, and it makes me feel good to know the future of this music will be hin the hands of people like Derek and Bramhall after the Old Masters, and all of us who've listened to them for 45 years have left the scene.
@rockncleve I hope you still have a turntable. Get the guitar gods on vinyl and rock out - full blast on your stereo. There is nothing like it, except for seeing them live. I got to see Stevie Ray before he augered in. His performance was majestic!
@EllJayAitch Ah yes; still have my Pioneer PL55X Direct Drive that's 35 years old now, and you are so right that nothing but live matches the sound of good vinyl under a good stylus. Glad I took care of all those albums and will pass on to my son-in-law someday. (He's the one who found me a new stylus and that was not an easy task.) Read recently that Steve Jobs never bought any music except vinyl till he died. If that doesn't validate it vs digital I don't know what would.
wonderful deep sound! Sometimes I give it up to new technology! whatta pair of great heads (old timer word).. I cried a few times but that was the best cryin in decades!

@lewiswren Welcome! We've missed people like you! It's refreshing to hear someone of your age interested in REAL MUSIC. I am almost twice your age but still almost a little "too young" for this music. Hear it,enjoy it,live it. Like davidmacewen below says, there is absolutely no group out there today nor has there been for many years with this kind of talent. The trash out there today depends on computers and autotune to make them sound talented."Music is life, pass it on"

clapton, still god since 1966.... and for the one who said that MJ didnt have talent, come on man.... I dont like pop music, it´s not the music I hear, but the first time I saw the billie jean performance in the motown records concert, the first moonwalk, I put replay many times. He was a genious as a dancer. And how can you compare a blues guitar player and singer wth a dancer? it´s like compare a butcher with a lawyer.
How many songs did mj write? How many instruments did he play? Oh, I forgot he played the upright organ! As for that stupid moonwalk he stole that from James Brown.
i love duel solos.... even when you know clapton is lways going to win. Joe Bonamassa does a pretty good fight in further up on the road, but no, clapton has something more than speed
the comment of jasonteten is so true.... anyone can play blues. It´s easy. ut the feeling of BB or eric... it´s a divine gift. Steve Winwood it´s amazing too. His solo in dear mr fantasy let me amazed. Cause is simple, but is so powerful. Eric Clapton, one of my alll time heroes.... I love how he doesn´t even try to hard to trash the three previous solos...
@guitarhal96 thats who I thought it be have seen him with Keith Richards group the Winos but wasnt sure. he can seriously play some drums. thanks so much.
Clapton, these boys, Robin Trower, Hendrix and Jack Bruce are in a class their own. So glad for the 60's-70's-and early 80"s music, bc the crap after that is, well....crap!
that´s right--- and listen his new arrengement. Searcj "Clapton crossroads japan 2009" and you´ll find it. It´s amazing. But yes, the intro with the drums in this one is awesome. and the solos... I personally like more EC of course, but followed nearly by trucks. But winwood it´s a surprise to me. I haven´t seen him playing never guitar. Listen to his solo in dear mr fantasy... it´s mind blowing
Between Trucks, Clapton, and Winwood, they have more talent than anything that's happened in the las thirty years. And oh yeah, that definitly includes the gloved child molester who had on his best day ZERO talent.
@davidmacewen I came here to listen to awesome music, but when I read such bullshit it pisses me off...Do you know every fucking artist of the last 30 years ? I don't think so...MJ a child molester, maybe, maybe not, what's the point in trolling in this video. Shut the fuck up and don't spoil the music with your useless statements, thanks.
@jammdawg .......agree with you..........Winwood started very young & is still going better than ever......always involved with great musos.......to their mutual benefit and our great enjoyment !
@jammdawg ..... Surely SW was not with traffic at 15, as he was with his bruv (Muff) & co in the Spenser Davis group then...traffic were a few years later...I saw him (personally with Muff and co in SDgroup) and he was 16 THEN...Traffic were a bit later...?
Why has no one mentioned Stevie Winwood?Damn amazing songwriter who's primarily a piano and organ player[Gimme Some Lovin, and so many others.]Turns out he picks pretty good, too.
Who's the drummer in the black shirt? This looks like a guy I've seen play with Roger Waters and with Mike Oldfield (?) - I think he and Doyle Brammel played with Waters actually.
Guys, this is just a jam, granted some of the guitar work was subpar but, still a pretty good delivery. Got to love the way the group just churns through this one driving it home. And, as someone said earlier, you know what happens when Eric takes two steps back from the mic....the clouds part and EC delivers a lightning strike right there on the stage!
@JangoManiac56 well, yes, thank you Mr. Les Paul, but why post it here? No one in this video plays one and mr. Les Poul doesn't have anything to do with this song (it's a song originally by Robert Johnson)
Another great rendition of the old Robert Johnson song. Bramhall, Trucks and Winwood all take good solos, EC takes everyone to school on the Soul of the Blues. @jasonteten has it right, it's all in the fingers and Clapton is the best because he has what other guitarists want and can't seem to find. EC's playing and stage presence exudes Soul, not pretense; Love of expression, not posing and an absolute conviction in every note that he plays. No throwaways here.
my guitar teacher pointed out that eric and jimi hendrix were some of the best blues players because they would often take just three notes and play around them in different patterns and ever since he said that thats all what i've noticed
quite sincerely: the song kicks ass, the band also but the solos were nothing special. EC's was the one I liked the most, but really ordinary stuff. (for them, obviously)
These guys are truly GREAT!!!! They have had better back-up singers though. They kind of don't flow with the sound or music. Not bad singers...just not for this.
So far this version of Crossroads and Can't find my way home are better than the ones in the actual MSG live concert! Damn they even have Derek Trucks in the slide guitar... I want this for DVD!!! T.T
@uwemusic that would be derek trucks, the nephew of the the allman brother's drummer butch trucks. He is the replacement of duane in the allman brothers too, thats why he plays with his fingers, because he does a lot of slide guitar.
joe bonamassa can play fast and with a lot of soul.... hendri had it everythung. Zack wylde for me is the eample of the lack of soul and clapton..... clapton is GOD
I'm sure this is one of the best versions of "Crossroads" I've heard, and even had a free class on how to play guitar by Derek Trucks, Doyle must have been ashamed
Let me reiterate. Clapton is good. I don't begrudge him any of his achievements. Am I against drugs? Definitely. If that makes me a moralist, geez, I hope there's more people like me. Would like anyone you love to go through addiction and rehab? It always affects the people around them. It's great Clapton founded Crossroads but it's unfortunate he had to abuse drugs himself to reach the point where he found they were a bad idea. But finally I've heard Clapton play better and he's just a man.
Nice! I wish I was there.

If you could add Paul Rodgers on vocals you would truly be in heaven !!!

This makes me feel like I'm 17 again. This tune has history...written in 1937 by blues singer Robert Johnson.

Who is the guy playin on the Gibson SGjust with his fingers???
uwemusic 11 months ago
@uwemusic that would be derek trucks, the nephew of the the allman brother's drummer butch trucks. He is the replacement of duane in the allman brothers too, thats why he plays with his fingers, because he does a lot of slide guitar.

is that about robert johnson ? or wha?
carrieluvv 11 months ago
@carrieluvv Its was a Robert Johnson song originally... Well, a morphing of two of his songs. "Crossroad Blues" and "Traveling Riverside Blues."
Rickenbacker4001C64 11 months ago
@Rickenbacker4001C64 thanks ; ) these songs were such good songs to drink beers to when i was a teeanager in the 80's it was like a blues baptism

Nothing wrong with Doyle's solo. It's not flash. He's just warming up for the other guitars.

you dont have to play fast fingers in guitar playing,.because fast
fingers will take you only hours of practice,.but the feeling of
blues music will take you years and even decades to get thru
it..blues is easy to play but it is hard to feel..its not how fast
your finger is,it is how you play the note..thats why eric clapton
is i think one of the best guitarist in the world.
jasonteten 1 year ago 52
@jasonteten and he could play fast by the way....for sure one of the greatest ever!
1Guug 7 months ago
@jasonteten
joe bonamassa can play fast and with a lot of soul.... hendri had it everythung. Zack wylde for me is the eample of the lack of soul and clapton..... clapton is GOD

I'm sure this is one of the best versions of "Crossroads" I've heard, and even had a free class on how to play guitar by Derek Trucks, Doyle must have been ashamed

Some people get too caught up in the "morality" of songs. Just enjoy it for what it is.

Belle brochette de gratteux ça fait plaisir !!!
dadaclapton1 1 year ago
Let me reiterate. Clapton is good. I don't begrudge him any of his achievements. Am I against drugs? Definitely. If that makes me a moralist, geez, I hope there's more people like me. Would like anyone you love to go through addiction and rehab? It always affects the people around them. It's great Clapton founded Crossroads but it's unfortunate he had to abuse drugs himself to reach the point where he found they were a bad idea. But finally I've heard Clapton play better and he's just a man.
