She has my vote for greatest female vocalist in the universe. I was driving across Nebraska on summer with my then-13-year-old son when this came on. I about drove off the road. He asked what was going on, and all I could say was "She has a voice like an angel."
I was doing my flexability exercise's ,to this song ,all of a sudden my cat wanted in ,we were like a hand in a glove ..............The only reason I post this is because I thought she only liked ABBA .
@TheMorewood I guess a clue is in her comments on this vid where she doubts (even here in the early 80's) she is able to hit the notes in the fade out, and indeed cuts it short at that point......Great shame really as it is my all time favourite track not only by Emmylou but by anyone.
I have seen her many times. She appeared regularly at Rockefellers in Houston for years. I played there quite a bit, too. I was in a local band and made it a point to be back stage for Bonnie Raitt, John Lee Hooker, BB, Rodney and Emmylou. We occasionally opened for her which was always a thrill. A friend that also played in the band once made the perfect statement about her. "There are only two types of men that don't love Emmylou. Those that have not met her and those that are dead."
@Thelovelyreddirtgirl Rodney recorded it on his third album. It was released in 1982 on the lp titled RODNEY CROWELL. Emmylou had the original version & she recorded it in 1976 on her 2nd album ELITE HOTEL.Both did a great job although I still like Emmylou's better. I have been fortunate enough to see her in concert 11 times.Crystal Gayle had the hit on this great song, but I feel that both the Emmylou & Rodney Crowell versions were better.
Seen her 4 times. One show at The Filmore in Denver, Oct 3, 2000 standing room venue. I made my way to the front of the stage looking right up at her. She and band tuning between songs, she asked "any requests"? I shouted up to her "Till I Can Gain Control Again". She looked down at me as if puzzled, asking the band if they remembered the song. They did. It was beautiful. She knelt down to me and said, "I've never had that one requested before, thank you". Standing up, she blew me a kiss. WOW!
Thanks sweetheart. Gone but not forgotten/ You came back for me. The least I can do is reach out for you on this keyboard. It's the closest I can get to you until we meet again. Don't worry- it's only my blue eyes crying in your raindrops.

@TheMorewood well that can be one clue, but many of her songs, she plays now are in lower key than before, so that shouldnt be a problem...

Love this one, but someone sounds a bit out of tune, possibly Emmy's guitar.
