I think we have all been "that kid with the book" at some point; I cut out the bottom of my inner pockets in my jackets and I would hide a book in the lining of them, because my parents wouldn't check there:)
I've been desperately in love with Mr. Gaiman's work, ever since a comic-booky friend of mine was so desperate to introduce me to her world, that she hunted down something literary enough to satiate me. I never got past the Sandman when it comes to comics, but I did dive right back into his literature, and I've loved every bit of it so far.
But anyway, as I was going to say when I started this whole rant.
Well...there is plenty of literary goodness in comic books (mostly DC, if you ask me) if you read into it enough, there are indeed some very deep issues discussed in some comics...pity you never picked up another one... but yes Gaiman is amazing.
The sad part of the question was the guy basically asked what Neil Gaiman read that gave him his imagination. I.e. what can I read to get your imagination. Neil's answer was a gentle smackdown: You can't take Gaiman-vitamins.
I was That Child Who Reads Too Much, too. :)
