  • I can only agree with the high praise bestowed upon this great record and I especially endorse the comment made by BarbaraAnnLovegrove - BUT only to this extent: I think Part Two is even better!

  • I think it gets a little easier to understand what he says when you've been listening to thousands of delta blues recordings because there are some 'fixed verse' which recur quite often though some words are really unintelligible... am I wrong in assuming that he says something like 'the day you quit me sugar is the day you die' at 0:53?

  • @Hoggyful Well, you see, as a collector I have listen to many recordings, BUT i'm not enlish spoken, I am a Swede. So, I'm glad you helpt me figure out the lyrics.

Thanks for a very good comment and listening.

    Peace Bro !

  • @kickingmule No probs man, I'm not a native neither, I'm from Italy... I just wanted to point out that if I got the lyrics right or at least that verse, this song is a tad misognystic, int it? Not as much as other blues recordings I've listened to though. Guess it was the fashion of the time.. Thanks to you for sharing.

    Best,

  • @Hoggyful Well, I do my best to present the Best, I think. You always give such a good comments, so all I can say.

    THANK YOU !

    Peace Brother !

  • What a magnificent recording! Garfield Akers' vocal style is intense, but amazingly free - and the intricate interplay between the two guitars is breath-taking. Now listen to Part Two - musically different, but equally great!

  • @BarbaraAnnLovegrove Ann, you are so right in your comment, so all I can say is Thanks for a good comment and listening !

    Peace Sister !

  • Thanks for giving us the opportunity to hear neglected artists such as this one. Great blues music.

  • Thanks Raymond !

I try to present as many styles and artists, as possible. And I love to present the ones, not so very well known !

    Peace my friend !

    Urban

  • Thanks for posting this song. Mr. Akers is a bluesman that I have not previously heard. I wouldn't say that he is one of the better delta guitarist, but I really do love his voice and singing style. Too bad there are so few existing recordings by him. I would love to hear many more.

  • I agree, he's not one of the best, but I happened to mention him in a presentation and got requests, they wanted to listen to him. But he's for sure a true Bluesman and his lack of more recordings is perhaps the Record Companies fault ! I don't know !

    Thanks Brother !

  • All that i love!

  • It's all you need to love !

    Peace Brother !

  • Another winner, Urban! so little seems to be known about this guy, but he sure could play them ole blues. And Jo Calicott accompanying...can't be bad!

  • I mentioned Garfield Akers in a presentation and have had many requests, so why not present an almost forgotten artist. I just love those "forgotten" guys !

Ha det bra ( Take Care ! )

    Urban

  • I will look out for the name---Garfield Akers--thanks. Such taut guitar playing.

  • What a treat.Thank you.

  • Paul, what can you expect from an old Mule ?

    Peace Brother !

  • Peace Urban - Nice Sunday !

  • Thanks Uwe !

Good to have you around. Hope you don't work in a Cottonfield in Germany ! You know early morings and late night work ! *smile*

    Peace Brother !

  • I removed my first comment because of

    the terrible spelling.

This is an excellant blues song*****S

  • JT, spelling doesn't matter. Music does. I don't understand much of this lyrics, but tried to put some picture in the video. " A long shot" !

    Peace Brother !

  • Thanks Urban,

I never did hear about Garfield Akers - the song is great - a strong voice!

For me, as a German, its also not easy to understand the lyrics. I did listen again and again, find some familiar phrases - and understand - more with the soul than the brain.

This is my kind of music!

  • Thanks for the comment and lsitening. Good to hear, I'm not the only one, who can't tell what the lyrics says.

But the music and Garfield Akers is worth listening to.

    Peace Brother !

  • english is my first language and i cant even understand most of whats said. love it to death though. thanks for posting

  • Thanks for your comment and listening to Garfield Akers. As you say, its hard to tell what his song is about, but I think the music in itself, tells the story ?

Take It Easy, But Take It !

    Urban

  • This my kind of blues man. Steady rhythmic guitar with a powerful vocal. Done it again Urban

  • Ya, Brother.

Many requested Garfield Akers and here he is.

He didn't record much, ( 3 records ) but more than you and I together I think !*smile*

    Thanks my Friend !

  • Urban Ya Understand As Good As Anyone In The South Of The USA Ya Got The Blues Brother Its In Yer Heart Peace Brother

  • Thanks. It was hard to understand the lyrics, but the sound of Garfiewld Akers is more important, as well as your comment.

    Thanks Brother !

  • Wonderful use of guitar as a powerhouse rythm section and carrier of melody. Mr. Akers' fine tenor on top of this makes for a pretty funky mojo. Thanks Urban, the sun don't shine much where I live but you spread sunshine on an almost daily basis!

  • Thanks Glen !

Many asked for Garfield Akers. He did only a few recordings and I'm glad to present this one.

If Sun don't shine everyday, you always have the Blues.*smile*

Thanks for a good comment and listening !

  • this is great! I knew that Frank Stokes worked for the Doctor Watts Medicine show with Garfield Akers but i've never heard him before or seen a photo .

  • You are good and well informed. I like that !

I didn't know what you just told me.

I don't know for sure if it's a photo of Garfield Akers. Picked it up from the net.

But most important is the sound, I think !

Many asked me to upload Garfield Akers, cause not so many have heard him, but he did only 3 records, so I'm glad to have this one !

It's Cottonfield Blues - Part I and II. This is part I.

Thanks for a very good comment and for listening !

    Tack.

    Urban
