  • great song, nice vid and tnx 4 the upload.

  • Fucking amazing

  • Amazing song & performance. If there's anyone who knows how to speak from the heart, it's Aaron Lewis. This song is very sad, but meaningful. I can see Aaron's perspective when he was blamed for something he never set out to do. The weight on his shoulder must've been hard. Music has always been his escape for expressing things he can't express very well through conversation. It's also done great things for others, though. He can do some amazing things just sitting with an acoustic guitar

  • It was actually a boy that never played the guitar in his life. He went and bought a guitar and learned how to play the song "outside", then committed suicide while playing a recording of himself playing "outside". It's in Staind's documentary "The making of Staind"

  • Fucking amazing song it brings me back when I thought of stupid shit and there cd help make it through it

  • The one from the band cold I think

  • who is the random guy playing the secong guitar? lol he isnt in the band

  • @25picklesandcheese Terry from Cold sat in with them on a few songs on the MTV Unplugged DVD...

  • Love this song saved my life

  • And fuck you

For not having the strength in your heart to pull through

I've had doubts, I've had fears

I've fucked up, I've had plan

Doesn't mean I should take my life with my own hands ...

this is the only thing that keeps me alive. thanks staind

  • Aaron is so talented! Too bad he's a Republican. It's obvious on his "Country Boy" song. Oh well, he's still talented though.

  • @honeybunny469 if you believe in the red vs blue game you are foolish..

Watch George Carlin American Dream or Joe Rogan War Machine

  • @honeybunny469 a republican that smokes weed, there is enough liberal in there not to really give a shit

  • @axel4clover1 that was me using my mothers computer

  • My friend Richard walker killed his self in 1975 and his mother asked me you are his best friend. Why Why Why. I will never forget her face. I don't know. He took our principle and put a 22 to his head and shot him then shot himself. Why Why. It has fucked me up for ever. I am now 54 and it still hurts me to this day. I still see his mothers face 40 years later. My god bless him my friend Richard I love you!!!!!

  • I'd like to see "Crawl" unplugged......LOL

  • @berkah89 fuck that shit... I wanna see "SPLEEN"!

  • @coldstaind91 haha yessss

  • this whole album, this song in general my favorite, helped me mend my broken heart, many years ago.gave me good memories of being bymyself in the sun in solitude listening over and over again, never had a song give so much comfert in being sad.its just so beautiful,to listen to that i feel like a battery being recharged afterwords.

  • Never Realized that was Terry Balsamo of Cold that was the extra guitarist

  • I Don't Know If I'm Allowd To Say

That Losing This Song Is Part Of The Misery I've Had

    In The Past Few Years...

  • aaron's voice is so haunting in this vid. it brings me to tears. this is REAL music.

  • this song is 100% his feelings and emotions and thats what makes the song great cause its real

  • his music has always brought something in me out that needs to be released. hes my hero in a way...and hell, hes the reason im gonna persue singing and playing acoustic on stage...i'll never be as good as him, but i'll try my damned hardest to be good like him lol

  • Coming from a biased hip-hop fan, this is easily some of the greatest shit I've ever heard...

  • This song sums up sooooo very much. Very special song - Staind - very special band.

  • Can somebody please give me a link for the whole concert ?

  • I had a producer use this sample for a beat I used on my album...story telling track titled "She Should Know" come check it out on my page!!

  • what year was this filmed

  • @mrguitarman151 i believe it was around 2003

  • too bad the lyrics are so loud compared to the music

  • I thought he wrote for you, about that kids mother?

  • @KensTrends no, for you is for kids/teenagers who's parents don't/didn't give a fuck, but if it was I wouldn't blame Aaron. It's like why would the kids mother come to Aaron he didn't even know the kid, just cause Staind was playing when she found him doesn't give her a good excuse am I right?

  • @JLA12301985

Exactlyy, she just wanted money im suree. lmao.

  • @KensTrends maybe

  • @JLA12301985 Yeahh,

  • @KensTrends when I heard about that I felt so bad for Aaron, like why does it have to happen to so a great singer/songwrither

  • @JLA12301985 Cause theres shitty people in the world lmao.

  • @KensTrends yeah I'll agree with you there

  • @JLA12301985

    Haha.(:

  • does anyone know where i could find a good bass tab for this? i haven't found much out there for this song and just want an idea of where to start. thanks.

  • 2:07 the shermaneitor xD (american pie btw)

  • While I dont think the kid was an idiot because I dont know what he was going through, I dont like it when somebody kills themselves while listening to a song and then their family wants to blame the people who wrote the song. Ive listened to a lot of dark music and Ive never killed myself or tried to kill myself because of it. You cant blame the musicians because they didnt kill that person.

  • Did anyone ask if that kid was on antidepressants i've had 4 friends kill themselves after they started taking that shit I talked 3 more outta taking them because they told me they were gonna end it.I use weed and mushrooms to treat my depression.

  • @stone8675309 ain't they supposed to keep you from being depressed?

  • @JLA12301985 do research and make your own choice.

  • @stone8675309 Well they are called antidepressants so that should mean they keep you from being depressed

  • @JLA12301985 they cause suicidal thoughts

  • you cant judge somebody for how they feel because you dont live there life u dont live in there body deep down u dont know what they go through...like i've always said life is hard and for some its much harder...just dont take for granted living a normal life...

  • I always loved this song, but now it's even more special. I found my neighbor dead after he hung himself last week.

  • Amazing!!!!!!

  • Terry Balsamo is such an awesome guitar player. I have been a fan of his music for years.

  • i strongly feel that the teenagers who committed suicide did so because they listened to tormented, the whole album. outside doesnt make sense, i dont find it depressing. i bought tormented and ive heard the whole thing many times and i know how intense it is. you even hear a man commit suicide at the end. i love staind and i think tormented is a masterpiece, but from my own experiences and opinion i think they boys took tormented too seriously and thats why they did i, not because of "outside"

  • @incubuscritter Really? Music does not cause people to kill themselves... that is just ridiculous!! No matter how tormented Aaron's music is or any others bands for that matter.. Society fucks teenagers up... Parents fuck teenagers up and other teenagers torment their peers... Not music!!!

  • @kbsunshine76 i am not saying music causes people to kill themselves, its all about how you interpret it. i am simply disagreeing with the info in the description about the meaning of this song, but it doesnt really matter. it is regardless a very powerful song, and beautifully done with acoustic

  • i really want to know how more intense this song would be live with out unplugged version

  • i had no idea about this song and my perception of aaron lewis as a person just changed drastically

  • @hello90you for the better or worse?

  • @hello90you Hopefully for the better because Lewis is a great great guy and that incident realy bothered him personaly for a long time.

  • This song is so powerful. Aaron si amazing. 03:02 - 03:22. I just cried

  • not gonna lie I shed a tear at 3:04. Fucking powerful

  • The best part of the song is where it gets really intense and he starts throwing the f bombs

  • unless you walk in the peoples shoes keep your mouth shut!!!!!!! i say that not only i lost 2 people to suicide, but i ve tried it 2, luckily i didnt die but when you wont change, your mind you ve wanted for so long it takes more guts to end your life then keep putin up with this worlds bs!!!!! to all the people who have lost a luvd one hang in there, they re at peace

  • Actually taking your own life is a very rational thing to do if the point is to end suffering and negative emotions. That is quite possibly the ONLY way to get rid of them for good. Does not make it the right choice though. Each situation can be different and need a different solution.

Has nothing to do with the level of intelligence at all. Level of fear, self control, tolerance, peer support, intoxication, ambition, motivation........maybe.

  • god dam a good ass song..shiz a mofo always has suicidal thoughts lol..luckily im waaay to pussy to kill myself..yeeeeeee for being a pussy lol..dope song

  • Those were two separate incidents. There was one kid that commited suicide (doesn't say how) that left behind a ticket........another incident in Peoria, Illinois where a kid hung himself while "Outside" was playing.

  • Well fuck them, and fuck her, and fuck him, and fuck you, for not having the strength in your heart to pull through, i've had doubts, i've had fears, i've fucked up, i've had plan, doesn't mean i should take my life with my own hands.

  • 3:05, bet she was the next one to kill her slf ahah

  • it is weak but shit does get hard ...... i dont want to die ever if i had my way i would be a vampire and live forever but this life is hard to live and i dont want to do it anymore .. so hopefuly i dont wake up one day not at the hands of me but somethin else and fuck me for sayin all this to u im drunk .. i just told u more then i have told anybody i know or lovr so whatever fuck me for bein stupid again

  • I think it's cool how Stained can use the word Fuck in a song and it actually has meaning and emotion rather then just chucking it in there lol, like it fits. Meh just a thought lol.

  • @329woody never thought about that until you pointed it out....great point and observation! that just adds to the already genius of Aaron Lewis/Staind lyrics.

  • Oh shit didnt read the rest of the discription! My bad!

  • How can that be? Outside and waste are on the same album. I dont beleive that this song was based on the event!

  • @nightmarenate97 it was man! here read this................ht t p: // sta ind-on line. com/ home. htm

  • we play grunge acoustic...i know nobody cares lol

  • Good preformance, but aaron you forgot your own lyrics... at 3:00 Its supposed to be Well fuck them

    And fuck her

    And fuck him

    And fuck you

For not having the strength in your heart to pull through

  • No I lost my bro 5 years ago and i understand why he did it imiss him but there was no stoping him i know he is safe an wont suffer anymore.

  • aaron is possibly one of the best acoustic singers

  • song rocks.... the rest of you fighting can to blow a dead dog

  • @musone315 you fucking people need to get a life and stop fighting over a fucking computer. find each other and fight man to man. all this shit talking over a computer is making me want to beat both of yalls ass just to shut you up

  • This info is wrong. The song the kid killed himself to was "Excess Baggage" off of "Dysfunction"

  • @ericmg31085 it was to outside.. the song was on repeat.. To hear excess baggage you have to skip through SPLEEN and dead air to hear it...

  • Staind and Alice in Chains are the only two bands that get through to me on an emotional level. I have suffered through severe depression, drug addiction, family conflicts, money problems and so forth. Very few bands can actually ideally save your life from your own despair. I did not think I would see 24 years to this day but I held on tightly to the things that I absolutely loved. This is why I truly believe how much power music can affect someone.

  • @Mzler1387 Two thumbs up to you man!!!!!!!!

  • aaron always looked high as shit

  • @soad420 lol

  • so emotional...

  • You can't say anything about suicide until you've actually been there and realized what it is actually like to feel that way. It's not a selfish act, some people really have nothing to live for. And being depressed for years on end take a major toll on a person. It makes the desire to live diminish and the want to die over ride any feelings of wanting to live. I know, I've been there. I'd be dead if my cousin didn't save me. You don't know what is on the other person's mind. Don't judge..

  • I guess I would want to hang myself after listening to Fred Douched sing for awhile. :)

  • which guitar Mushok and Balsamo uses there?

  • im suicidle and this doesent change my mind at all

  • if you like this check also Abiotic - Wanted

  • Fuck suicide. It's so selfish. Peobably the most selfish thing anybody could eveer do. Nobody should ever think about it. I remember feeling suicidal. Sometimes I still do. But I could never go through with it cause I know the heartbreak I would cause. I want to make a difference someday somehow... like Aaron Lewis does. There's so much emotion in this song. And I can relate to some of Staind's songs. This song is probably one of the greatest because it says how stupid suicide is.

  • "...fuck them, And fuck him, And fuck her, And fuck you

For not having the strength in your heart to pull through. I've had doubts, I've had fears, I've fucked up, I've had plans, Doesn't mean I should take my life with my own hands" I have asperger's, so I know what it feels like to feel so screwed up that you want to die, and nobody would care.

  • @MrNaong i felt the same way once but then but then me n my family started doing things together and now i feel pretty good about myself

  • @MrNaong There is alway someone who cares you might just not know them.

  • @MrNaong There is alway someone who cares you might just not know them.I love you brother/sister you never know what tomorrow will bring you you have to fight for the things in this life it's not fair but it is what it is.

  • @MrNaong I was told the reason he said that in the song is because HE was being blamed for the kids suicide by the kids family. Thats why he said what he did at the end. And Aaron Lewis has a very dark past himself. Hes been where that kid was, but he pulled through. He didnt kill himself. Thats why the lyrics in this are kind of rough.

  • @vegetafan09 but we all love the lyrics & Aaron is so awesome at writing lyrics lol

  • @JLA12301985 lol indeed he is. I'll admit his music has gotten me through some pretty rough stuff

  • @vegetafan09 that's one thing we have in common, I went through a rough break up & I listened to Break The Cycle 24/7 cause every song spoke to me in some way from going through the break up. Like Fade she didn't care about me so I might as well have faded away, Suffer I was suffering from heartbreak, but every song was therapy for me.

  • @JLA12301985 I listened to it after I lost a very dear member of my family. I listened to one song over and over again. It was Epiphany. It helped me through it

  • @vegetafan09 sorry for your loss, But I'm glad it helped you

  • @JLA12301985 Thanks. Im glad too. I wasnt in the best state of mind then and didnt want to be around anyone. Thanks to this man's music, Im now much better and much happier

  • @vegetafan09 Oh yes, I'm glad he did the same for me

  • I love this song.

  • dude wtf outside is a great song. staind's lyrics are great and def relate to a wide amount of their audience

  • good one, NAATTTTTTTTTTT

  • RIP Chris...

  • 3:00 Words of wisdom

  • agreed, i mean listen to the song, can you imagine the mom or being Aaron Lewis? Hearing that a child took his own life listening to your words, wow kinda hardcore. Then bugging you enough to write a song about it. Heavy stuff, bless the mother for having to go through this.

  • If you actually read down the comments, you will find some of the most retard things I have ever read in my life. Why cant people post comments on how great the song is, as oppose to fighting with each other on youtube? I mean, come on now people, if you want to fight about something, join the fucking army for christ sake.

  • @musone315 Oh yea. The army. Then we can fight about something important. Like oil or drugs or money or religion or land or greed. Oh yea those are all great things to fight about.

Fuckin moron. Its comments like this that make me hate the whole fuckin human race. Where is natural selection when you need it.

  • @AmanOU2be lmao your an idiot

  • @AmanOU2be Problem with your logic is, you apparently find hard to grasp that this country was founded on Religion. We absolutely require Oil, money, and land. Yeah, war is wrong. I agree; although, it WILL happen. You say that those reasonings are stupid to support a war over, but it's those very things make this country livable in. This country is on it's last leg and the leaders of this country are going to do everything in their power to keep it. That includes our VOLUNTEER soldiers.

  • @HoofyandPoofy Wow. I see where you started but you drove way off course. This country is not on its last leg. We could hunker down and become self supporting if we needed too. People are just greedy. If we did not piss off other countries and stick our nose where it does not belong, we would not even need to get involved.

Well, our need to have everyone else like us does not help either. Religion has run its course. It does more harm than good now.

  • Hahaha Idiots Fighting....anyways...this song really makes me think. It hits home pretty hard considering I just had a Friend Try to kill himself at a Party Last night...and I know what its like to be in this position....its fucked up.

  • hope the young man is in a good place, we dont know what he went through but hey, hope your feeling better man.

  • Many great people have been lost to suicide.

Think about all that is lost and all who lose over one desperate act.

  • Great song

  • The Q&A are still wrong, Aaron wrote Outside with Jcat a while before Break the Cycle came out.. But Aaron And Durst Played it like that time, And that LIVE version got tons of radio time, 2 years before the CD came out... So the kid who committed suicide was listening to the Aaron and Fred version on the radio

  • aaron lewis wrote outside live on stage.

  • aaron was in a band before staind called JCAT.. they performed outside...

Aaron also said he wrote most of outside before he played it on stage with fred durst, but made up most of it

ur talking to the master man

  • your wrong. im sorry

  • nope im actually right.. go to stainds website.. AARON himself tells the story you dumbass

  • Ok guy... Search JCAT-Outside.. And see the first video that comes up.. You're such a dumbass

  • so your saying that he is lying when he goes around saying he created the song live on stage. he had the chorus buy hadnt really worked on the verses. that also means he lied to us again when he proceeded to tell the entire mohegan sun arena when he told us hte same story last night

  • dude look up JCAT outside.. Aaron was in that band before staind.. I'll go to stainds forum and Copy Aaron lewis's post himself on the whole story and friggen send it to you.. I've heard the story plenty of times.. But aaron played outside with JCAT before staind.. The lyrics arent close to the same.. but its still OUTSIDE... don't be ignorant and not even search for the JCAT version

  • Fred Durst Produced a number of stainds albums. But he had nothing to do with the song writing.

  • i am a psychology major and suicide is a bit more philosophical and circumstantial than rational, you cannot compare two individuals in that way the same goes for things like PTSD (post traumatic stress). The individuals hierarchy of values and how they perceive stress as well as positives and negatives is largely the greatest contributor to how or why one has suicidal thoughts

  • Now, that, is an argument!

  • Most people that know me think i am one of the strongest people they know, however, i have pulled that trigger yet the grace of God wouldn't let me go. My strength has come from that survival. People don't know what they have not experienced. They only see what they want to see,,what their minds will allow them to understand.

  • hah,in my tiny country - highest rate of suicide in the world.About 50~ people per 100k.And we only 3,5 milions! One day we all will kill ourselfs.I guess...

  • Fred Durst and Aaron Lewis were writing outside together. That show where they play it together was the very first time they performed it.

  • he wrote outside with jcat though i thought

  • yah man your write my mistake, I guess Fred Durst just wanted to help him sing it on stage.

  • fred durst didnt write anything or make up the lyrics.. it was all aaron...

  • Amazing.

  • eemmm....fuck u both. JCat version is a bit different - even lyrics.

  • i think staind is one of the greatest bands ever.aaron lewis has an incredible voice.

  • Amazing song with awesome lyrics... Staind rocks people ! (:

  • awesome performance, stop and stare

  • Just raw emotions. One of the few bands who are able to really express them.

  • amazing!

  • And if it was the first time he performed it to Fred Durst then HOW IN THE FUCK is fred durst singing it with him?

  • wow your both Fuckin WRONG!!! first of all outside was not performed and written before Staind was a band and secondly the video with fred ( that version) well it isNOT their first time... their first time performing was in ohio at fuck I dont remember the venues name (so im not gonna lie) but anyways yea there ya go

  • It was the first time Aaron Lewis performed "Outside" with Staind... Holy Shit... You know it all, not knowing shit mother fuckers need to shut up.

  • love the way he looks up when he starts singin

  • Outside was released way before this song was. Question answered

  • love this song

  • Aaron plated outside with fred durst in 1999 Family values, first time he ever played it live acoustic.. So it was out way before BTC came out... Any TRUE staind fan knows that!!

  • False, any TRUE fan of a band, Is a fan of the members, Outside was written and played before Staind was even a band. So either research, or know before you talk.

  • not the same song.. JCAT outside isn't even close.. get your shit straight Reetttaard.. go to stainds site.. The aaron lewis fred durst on stage was the night aaron performed outside for the first time to fred durst.. its AARON LEWIS in the video telling the story.. you FAIL

  • OMG YOU FUCKING RETARD! IT HAS THE EXACT SAME LYRICS! The Chord progressions are exactly the same, the lead is the only difference, You get your fucking shit straight, the first time he performed it with STAIND fuck tard.

  • well put ImGma......but suicide is just a waste of life..... the fact is there is no heaven or hell, just life... to kill ones self is just a waste of the only life we ever get..... as soon as people realize that, people will apreciate their life for everything its worth and live it to the fullest.

  • tuuuune, sounds better electric but still sounds good here

  • FUUUUUUUUUUCK...........aaron lewis is such a bad ass

  • Suicide is the last act of a desperate person wracked with depression. Most who commit the act have agonized over the decision for years. Can you imagine the intensity of the blackness that could make death seem more appealing than life. I don't feel sorry for their death, I feel sorry for the anguish and overpowering loneliness they suffered while they were still alive. It breaks my heart to know that there is nothing anyone can do to stop it.

  • You have a beautiful mind...

  • @ImGma i´m on the edge

  • @ImGma your obsolutely right. i myself have held the barrel to my head to try and end it all, but i have found some good in living and it has made me a better person and i have a better life now. even though times get though i will never get to that point in life again.

  • @ImGma There is help...They just need someone to look to and be there for them. I have helped my significant other through many downsides and together we have overcome it's power.

  • Wow...very awesome...very well written an expressed.

  • @ImGma It is a justification to say that no one ever knows, that we cannot see the pain and torment those who take their lives feel. It is easier to say that we could not see, or that it just wasn't our problem, but we are only qualifying our inaction and self-absorption. Somewhere along the way someone saw, someone knew, and they had the ability to change it all.

  • mattdogg65 <-- I love those lines also... And the fact that he says "Fuck you, for not having the strength in your heart to pull through"... That's gotta hurt to say them, but he really doesn't hold anything back!

  • true that
