  • Who would not love and appreciate you good work? Way to show the rest of us!

  • You don't create avatar animations with scripting. Prim animations use scripting, not avatar animations.

  • Great video! I will share this with other educators!!! Thanks for the tips!

  • SECOND life, self explanatory

  • @BasebetaPython very good comment :) you have understand the power of secondlife

  • Graphics are better in real life

  • Pretty interesting, thanks. Might get through to some kids.

  • Oh, please.

  • second life is ok, as long as you remember it isn't your 1st life, like world of warcraft.

  • Hey guys ive read the comments below, agree and disagree, secondlife can be whatever your imagination wants it to be, ive seen seminars, exhibits, live bands from around the world and promotoed to thousands of poeple the talent of many via sl. Its a virtual world where the only bounderies are your imagination, so if you dont have one, then yes stay a perv or lonely housewife, getitng one and explore your own ideas is only the start. Businesses can have world wide meetings, and enspire, you can too

  • second life is good for dreamers and people who want to explore the virtual world

  • Seems like an online community that would be full of middle aged, bored housewives and pervs. Seems so pointless. Someone prove me wrong.

  • @uklapazz As far as something you would do for fun, I would agree with you, but I am really seeing the value in using this in a classroom setting. :)

  • What...the fuck?

  • this is the sadest thing i have ever seen. i feel so sorry for this woman.

  • Old SL hahahahah

  • new second life youtube up tommorrow on me channel

  • SL is an awsome

  • its too bad second life also spawns creepy adults who are able to interact with kids as well. as much as im all up for technology to make things easier for everyone, some things just dont need tat technological boost. i mean the game has e-prostitution as a legal way of earning lindens. how do parents explain tat to kids who arent immersed in the world that needs to be explained?

  • SL is an awsome

  • @NemesisXII Second Life is 18 and up. If you want to get into the Adult areas, you have to pass an age verification test. More security than the rest of the Internet...

  • @djgizmoe they can ask for verification all they want but i know empirically that something like an age limit on a website has never stopped kids from doing what they want to do.

  • education of the future

  • Thank you. It is not a game. However gaming theory has quite a bit of learning theory embedded. When 14 kids from around the world jump onto a multi-player online game like Call of Duty and one takes on a leadership role and demonstrates leadership and teaming skills, he is learning. So 2nd Life does look a bit like a game but it's not about the look and feel, it's how it is designed and applied.

  • Quite an intellectual discussion about a serious technology. Second Life is phase I of a new way to learn and interact with people and learn through experience and practice. Consider 6 students. Each one is in a different country around the globe. Each one is confined to a wheel chair. They want to meet to discuss and experience ancient structures like the Great Wall of China or the Pyramids. In technologies like 2nd LIfe this is possible.

  • nice

  • You've got a cute voice

  • i honestly dont see the benefit of this. Couldnt you have simply googled the information and read the information and use pictures. It seems like that would be much faster and convenient than having to wait to load the program, then teleport or fly there.

  • Reading and watching is not the same as experiencing, collaborating and creating in terms of learning. It is part of the learning process and should not be discarded. However technologies like 2nd life provide a way to apply the information in reading and watching to experience, doing, teaming, collaborating and even creating.

  • is second life really that laggy?!

  • agreed with vampire bean, though sl has play area's for him to play at, like the -1 years old store...

  • Hey great video, I see lot of people bashing SL that's because it was way over their head or just because they have not tried it, to the ones that say, get a life, more like look for a way to expand it, VR is the future, and then you'll have to eat your words.

    Peace !

  • lol yeah like this shit game is the future for education. You can get more educated by looking at websites on the internet, not playing some crappy game. Any teacher that uses or actually thinks this is a good idea for education should be shot

  • You seem like an intelligent person. Have you read Kant, or Plato or Rouseau and considered the way in which people learn? We learn through experience. Are you familiar with constructivism? Wikipedia is an example of something called distributed cognition. Look if you don't have a background in educational research you should reconsider making comments like this unless you can back it up with research.

  • Despite all the negative points I make , I do agree with the part when you talk about game developping and training to use different tools on the SL platform.

It's interesting, however it can be done on loads of other platforms. Adding to this, the SL performance is very poor and makes it extremely laggy, which isn't good.

The part when you talk about the architecure and interior design is good, because it's truly a way to test some things like furniture.

However my mind is made up.

    SL is crap.

  • If you happen to teach physics and geography, SL is a good life to experiment? Are you joking?

    It's a game!

Read a book or watch tv reports about geography instead of playing a game that so-calls increases your knowledge in physics and geography.

    It's a game!

In a game, expecially one like SL, there is no gravity and physics laws because it's a stupid game, there is no such thing as that in a game, otherwise games would be impossible to create!

    it's a stupid, , dumb game.

Go back to ur 1st life.

  • The bit about the statue of Achilles is plain stupid. Are you considering it as a masterpiece? Bullshit. It's a computer generated statue.

And the idea of following your glare, that's what Leonarodo da Vinci does for his Mona Lisa.

And the bit about history and those roman drawings? Get real. If people want to learn about history, they can read a book, not play some silly platform game on the net.

So instead of contemplating this fake crap, go to REAL museums to devellop REAL culture.

    thank you

  • wow the proformance of second life is very poor

  • can u play second life 4 free?

  • yes

you dont need money either, you can get a lot of items for free

  • You are very good at explaining things, and this looks really cool. ^^

  • Inspiring. True. A metaverse, today, beginning. tomorrow 'mindscaping' what we have yet to imagine, the birth of a new religion.

Please do more presentations, Thank you.

  • second life = no life

  • @moviegang5 that what happen to suit life on deck (zack and cody from disney)

  • we need to rename it to GetA Life

  • god I hate you pessamists

  • I just started playing it yesterday and I think maybe we should rename it Moderation Please.

  • second life is cool i just play it like im in GTA lol die!!

  • Your voice is relaxing..

  • why is it so damn laggy thats anoying as hell.

  • A lot of the other videos are really laggy too.

    -.-'

  • Yes, anything can be done at the comfort of your home computer/laptop.

Scripting is a tedious task for beginners though, sometimes it is so complex that you have to copy paste or modify the code.

  • But I am interested to get this programme.

I can soo impress my friends with this. and i can learn a lot.

How do u purchase this product?

  • u dont purchase it! just download it at the website!

  • haha. lol. Yeah, i realised that when i started playing it. :)

But can i ask u sth? What exactly makes it a great game? Or do u not think it's great?

    Thx

  • U need to do it hands-on.

  • I actually met somebody on here in a University Programming and Graphic Design class, and she told me that they were getting marked on the quality of their structure.

  • congrats... this video is very good.

  • technology has failed us.

if u promote this then u should not be an educator. your just promoting students to be as lazy as they can. to use this for educational purposes is the same as using wikipedia for a research paper.

  • Wikipedia is a process not a source. It is a process for creating knowledge and information. The process, referred to by Edwin Hutchins is distributed cognition. Wow, I hope you are not actually a teacher in our public schools, making comments like this with out researching it.

  • Great video. I use SL and can see the uses for this. Definitely a good way to teach classes.

  • interesting, thanks for the video.

  • lol teachers will become gms XD! virtual school would be interesting but then again the new class clowns would be hackers XD! School will become a online game!!!!

  • Amazing video :)

  • She makes a good point: "If you happen to teach 3D modeling it's perfect place for experimentation."

Similar to other videos suggesting the educational value of SL, this one is also based on a lot of assumptions.

  • in the furture:education classes might be held on the computer....(oops,they already are!)cept not like this tho XD

  • I love your voice

  • "a merchant, a farmer, or even a female"

I didn't know that being a female was a job. XP

  • It was then...

  • oh but it was. think about it. the women were responsible for the household, cooking, cleaning, the light farming or whatever, the children's up keep, hopping for supplies......sounds like a job right?

  • @Strideo1

    You're kidding right?

Making sammiches is hard work, and cleaning up the house without leaving the kitchen is hard as fuck.

  • Very nice and interesting video.

  • Really enjoyed watching the video good job :D

  • the one pc school house k-12 and collage on the job

  • i love ur voice :) good work

  • Excellent. Great examples of the possibilities.

Encouraging. We might be able to do it!!

  • This is an inspiring account. It makes the difficult seem easy and entices the challenge inside the newbies necessary to cultivating constructive thinking. In other words:

    A most encouraging video!

  • Great job, thanks for sharing this.

  • Great video and great job! 5 stars:-)

A little note; your audio quality is excellent, yet the "P"s pop a lot and can be reduced/eliminated by either speaking more "across" the microphone element rather than into it directly and/or put a sock or cotton ball over the mic element to cut the wind noise (Doing V/Os I myself, I have found these tips helpful .. yes, I have had a sock over my mic [to cut the wind noise] from time to time:-).

  • i have a teen SL it is the best thing ever! make one or u will miss out on life over all!

  • Excellent video - I am going to use it as an intro to my presentations on educational uses of SL. Nice going.

  • This is a really useful video - especially since I'm writing an essay on Second Life in education!

  • were do you download this

  • Good ideas for educational support...

  • Good idea.

  • Thank you for this video with challenging ideas.

  • great video...very interesting

  • Great job! I will use this in my workshops! Here's my shameless plug: Peggy Sheehy, the visionary driving Suffern Middle School's Ramapo Islands spectacular Teen SL initiative, is leading a two-day workshop at LHRIC (the Lower Hudson Regional Information Center in Elmsford, NY on August 7th & 8th.for a course description and book your reservation NOW!
