Hey guys ive read the comments below, agree and disagree, secondlife can be whatever your imagination wants it to be, ive seen seminars, exhibits, live bands from around the world and promotoed to thousands of poeple the talent of many via sl. Its a virtual world where the only bounderies are your imagination, so if you dont have one, then yes stay a perv or lonely housewife, getitng one and explore your own ideas is only the start. Businesses can have world wide meetings, and enspire, you can too
its too bad second life also spawns creepy adults who are able to interact with kids as well. as much as im all up for technology to make things easier for everyone, some things just dont need tat technological boost. i mean the game has e-prostitution as a legal way of earning lindens. how do parents explain tat to kids who arent immersed in the world that needs to be explained?
@NemesisXII Second Life is 18 and up. If you want to get into the Adult areas, you have to pass an age verification test. More security than the rest of the Internet...
@djgizmoe they can ask for verification all they want but i know empirically that something like an age limit on a website has never stopped kids from doing what they want to do.
Thank you. It is not a game. However gaming theory has quite a bit of learning theory embedded. When 14 kids from around the world jump onto a multi-player online game like Call of Duty and one takes on a leadership role and demonstrates leadership and teaming skills, he is learning. So 2nd Life does look a bit like a game but it's not about the look and feel, it's how it is designed and applied.
Quite an intellectual discussion about a serious technology. Second Life is phase I of a new way to learn and interact with people and learn through experience and practice. Consider 6 students. Each one is in a different country around the globe. Each one is confined to a wheel chair. They want to meet to discuss and experience ancient structures like the Great Wall of China or the Pyramids. In technologies like 2nd LIfe this is possible.
i honestly dont see the benefit of this. Couldnt you have simply googled the information and read the information and use pictures. It seems like that would be much faster and convenient than having to wait to load the program, then teleport or fly there.
Reading and watching is not the same as experiencing, collaborating and creating in terms of learning. It is part of the learning process and should not be discarded. However technologies like 2nd life provide a way to apply the information in reading and watching to experience, doing, teaming, collaborating and even creating.
Hey great video, I see lot of people bashing SL that's because it was way over their head or just because they have not tried it, to the ones that say, get a life, more like look for a way to expand it, VR is the future, and then you'll have to eat your words.
lol yeah like this shit game is the future for education. You can get more educated by looking at websites on the internet, not playing some crappy game. Any teacher that uses or actually thinks this is a good idea for education should be shot
You seem like an intelligent person. Have you read Kant, or Plato or Rouseau and considered the way in which people learn? We learn through experience. Are you familiar with constructivism? Wikipedia is an example of something called distributed cognition. Look if you don't have a background in educational research you should reconsider making comments like this unless you can back it up with research.
Despite all the negative points I make , I do agree with the part when you talk about game developping and training to use different tools on the SL platform.
It's interesting, however it can be done on loads of other platforms. Adding to this, the SL performance is very poor and makes it extremely laggy, which isn't good.
The part when you talk about the architecure and interior design is good, because it's truly a way to test some things like furniture.
If you happen to teach physics and geography, SL is a good life to experiment? Are you joking?
It's a game!
Read a book or watch tv reports about geography instead of playing a game that so-calls increases your knowledge in physics and geography.
It's a game!
In a game, expecially one like SL, there is no gravity and physics laws because it's a stupid game, there is no such thing as that in a game, otherwise games would be impossible to create!
The bit about the statue of Achilles is plain stupid. Are you considering it as a masterpiece? Bullshit. It's a computer generated statue.
And the idea of following your glare, that's what Leonarodo da Vinci does for his Mona Lisa.
And the bit about history and those roman drawings? Get real. If people want to learn about history, they can read a book, not play some silly platform game on the net.
So instead of contemplating this fake crap, go to REAL museums to devellop REAL culture.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
you don't even have to do that, looking at crap in this game is the equivalent of just looking up pictures on google. I hope we never rely on games like this to "educate" children or else they will all grow up to be idiots
i can not help it it WORKS SO TRY JUST DO IT IT WORKED FOR ME JUST DO IT OKClap 3 times, spin around and say the person you want to be with forever, post this on 7 pages. On this Saturday that person will realize how much you mean to them... you don't do this... that person will think the opposite and never want to see your face again! It worked for me, just try!!!
I actually met somebody on here in a University Programming and Graphic Design class, and she told me that they were getting marked on the quality of their structure.
if u promote this then u should not be an educator. your just promoting students to be as lazy as they can. to use this for educational purposes is the same as using wikipedia for a research paper.
Wikipedia is a process not a source. It is a process for creating knowledge and information. The process, referred to by Edwin Hutchins is distributed cognition. Wow, I hope you are not actually a teacher in our public schools, making comments like this with out researching it.
lol teachers will become gms XD! virtual school would be interesting but then again the new class clowns would be hackers XD! School will become a online game!!!!
oh but it was. think about it. the women were responsible for the household, cooking, cleaning, the light farming or whatever, the children's up keep, hopping for supplies......sounds like a job right?
