Nice vid, this is technically not a bergen but a patrol pack, did you know that the back, complete with shoulder & belt straps, comes off completly ready to carry a radio ?...............With the side pouches it is quite wide, I imagine it must snag in narrow situations & wobble about a bit.too. Unfortunatly as with all packs made to be worn over belt webbing, the waist strap does'nt carry any weight,......carrying anything over 7 or 8 kilos on the shoulders alone is pretty uncomfortable..
@blacktimberw,Hi mate thanks for your comment, i know its classed a a patrol pack, however as its kind of halfway between a Bergen and a patrol pack out of habit i call it a Bergen, as for the side pouches they are pretty gud at holding weight, but i tend to but all the hevy items in the main body, they don't move around much at all, the waist belt takes a good amount of the weight of my shoulders, and finally yes i know the shoulder straps and back plate comes off but i wouldnt use this feature
I'll have to keep my eye out for one, The Defy does a good job, its just the GPS function seems to suck the life out of the battery, even when switching the viewranger program off.
First time I went up scafell pike I got lost, no maps, no nothing I crapped em to say the least, there's a couple of patches where the tracks just end, luckily a group or army lads who were regulars helped me find my way.
Dread to think what would have happened should the fog have descend (as it has a few times since)
@chris25119600 I didn't pal, I got a garmin dakota instead as a backup unit was £80 on ebay.
But i'm still keeping my eye out for a cheap satmap system but it seem's they are all the rage atm and arnt many cheap ones about even the older models are going for £250 on ebay.
How are those Satmap GPS systems? I notice a few of you lads have them but Ive never heard of them until I watched your videos, I think Themuss28 and goofa have them also?
I currently just use a motorola Defy with viewranger 1:25k maps of the lakes but its sucks the crap outta my phone battery.
They are really good Pal it cost me £300 for the ACTIVE 10 PLUS version which has extra charging options plus the route planner access which it excellent, as i can do a walk, then upload it and let other people use it as well, customer service is top class as well, i had a Garmin colorado 300 for my first GPS it was ok but kept freeing, which is not what you want when halfway up Scafell pike, with the satmap i tend to use this now as oppose to maps, so i have great faith in it
@themuss28 Ha yes, how did you guess mate !!, i was in a Commando regiment for 6 yrs, if you luk on my channel u will see a short vid on the commando training involved, that's why i went for this bergen, my body shape suits it, & also i hate the Civi shaped rucksacks, they luk like jet packs, its not the biggest bergen, karrimor do a SABRE which goes upto a 100Ltrs if needed, but i can get all my gear what i need in there, i did actually take my new tent with me.but too wet to pitch and do a vid
