@akoharrey Sorry man, the "backing track" was lost when my last Hard drive failed...however it really wasn't a real backing track...I used a software application called Bias Peak for Mac, and I simply found a chunk of music where Wes' wasn't playing over, captured it, and looped it! Not really hard to do...hope this helps
Joe, I'm just cruisin' through your repertoire here in Vienna.
I used to come up from Peoria to see my relatives in Skokie. Chicago's got wicked bratwurst and barbeque. "Bumpin" sounded like greasy chicken with some hot pork 'n' beans sittin' out on the curb in front of a downtown BBQ joint, chowin' down on a late summer's night.
Alright I love the song, and i have his songbook, and its coming along well, I just don't know what type of tone to dial in. Can someone at least give me an idea about what to dial in?
hey guy great playing! how do i start on the road to jazz playing? i wanna be able to improvise and develop the instinct for great melody and harmony... no matter the setting - rock, blues, jazz, r&b, ska, whatever the name of the game is
unfortunately I don't have a Tab for Bumpin on Sunset, but AMEN to you're comment regarding Mr.Montgomery...it kind of frightens me to think that coming generations won't know about Wes as we do, at least not to the extent that people know of him today?
Wes plays for the Almighty now...Loaded with Soul, that's a Blessing from the Lord and Wes had it in abundance...I turned some of my friends on to it,needless to say they was floored like I was the first time I heard it...Directly or indirectly Wes influenced generations of guitarist and will continue to do so...This never gets old as fresh as ever!!!!!
The use of the octaves on the 1 and six strings is really unique on this tune and sounds really cool. The other thing is it's just like an Aminor groove for like 3 minutes. Then like a chord progression towards the end on Wes's recording, have you worked that out yet? Thanks for a great vid.
Yes I have, unfortunately I have not been able to create an entire backing track of the song? I simply used Bias Peak software to extract enough of the song to create the loop I play over in the video. If you happen to have the entire song as a backing track I would love to finish the vamp...
Thanks man, and I'll try an video tape the stuff I have (I studied under a man by the name Jack Checchini in Chicago, Illinois and another teacher by the name of Vito Stocki, both are still alive....
I think you have a much nicer touch and tone than most people that post jazz guitar on youtube... great note choices, sensibility, taste, you have a really good ear! Keep playing, you're headed in a great direction. I wouldn't say that about most of the people I see playing guitar on youtube, but the ear makes the difference, and you've got it!
I love it when you can get a tone that sounds like thousands of dollars from a guitar than costs less than half as much. Great sounding Ibanez you have there.
Yeah man, that Ibanez Artcore AF85 guitar sounds real sweet. I just nabbed a AF75 for $220 on ebay and it's damn near everything my '59 Levin 330 was and I just let that go for $2500...lol
thanks buddy...yeah my fingerboard is a little stiff...I hope to upgrade to a PM Ibanez in the near future...I have tried a couple of them out at Guitar Center, and I was very impressed with the tone and the action!
aye bro. you played this song so smooth. kudos to you. do know where i can find sheet music or tabs for this? i mean i know it sounds dumb but all the wes montgomery books and stuff aren't really being stocked or even sold where i live.
Actually Guitar Center in Country Hills, Illinois stocks Wes Montgomery publications that have note for note transcriptions...I learned this tune after seeing Wes at a club in Chicago in 1968! (Yep,I'm an Old, Old Man?)
your very lucky sir. im still a kid. i have some tickets to a george benson concert with my dad and im excited but i wish i coulda saw wes. i'll take a look around for some wes stuff over at the guitar center near me. thanks for the advice and keep killing on the guitar man.
Hey MAC... There is something to be said of aging...Like wine ,sometimes the thing turns to vinegar(maybe that is not so bad, 4 a salad) and sometimes that wine is a real treasure.. Here's to you my friend, you've aged just right! (5 stars)CHEERS.! THANX 4 posting........I just bought the Ibaez AG95 DBS.great sounding guitar. I believe the fingerboard is the same as your guitar. It feels a little stiff. I guess I found a good excuse to be playin the guitar alot!..........KEEPON STRUMMIN...DALLAS
Get some flats man.You nailed it totally.
